In theory.  However, if a defense is sound then they'll be able to double/triple a post player and close out to the ball well enough and/or rotate well enough to at least pester a perimeter shooter.  If nothing else...force an offensive player to hesitate just long enough for the defense to get back into position.  Perhaps BH has leaned too heavily on their UConn commit post player too many times in tight games.  Which would be understandable.  I don't know.
Perhaps Canyon isn't 30 points better...I'll give credit to the man that is now coaching for his 19th state championship as a head coach.  I would think that someone with that much success will know exactly how to prepare his team for any kind of star player.

Oldschool2 is correct. It is "possible to triple team someone when they have the ball and still be able to cover all 5 players when that one person doesn't have the ball." Canyon simply doubled-downed it's strong-side guard and brought the weak-side helper as the third defender.  Personally, however, I believe your question has merit because we may have forced passes and did not test Canyon's "help and recover/help the helper defense."  Without a doubt, Canyon proved to be the better team. I just don't believe Canyon's players are 30 points better than BH's players.
Credit goes to Canyon's fundamental defense and BH's turnovers for BH's limited shots per quarter.

Dang I was really hoping this was BH year. Canyon is just on a different level again this year it seems. Congrats on a great year BH.

Bronco/Cat Fan, I wholeheartedly agree with you.  Canyon is known for patience, discipline, defense - and more importantly, fundamentals of the game.  I remember the announcer specifically stating during last year's state game, Canyon vs. Crosby: "Canyon loves playing against more athletic teams."
Yes, BH does put very good teams on the floor year in and year out.  I am optimistic BH will come out on top against Canyon.

Hoopster-007 got a reaction from bleedblue in Bryan Rudder 78 Barbers Hill 77/Final
Bronco/Cat Fan, I agree "Rudder shot lights out and played a good overall game."  There were a couple of scoring "turnarounds" that really hurt Barbers Hill, particularly when BH's post player (Charli) was substituted out the game.  Personally, I thought the Rudder game was one of Charli's best games, along with several other BH players who stepped up and made big shots.
This young team had an awesome season and I am really proud of them. As a fan/parent, I would probably be content with our play against Rudder; however, as someone who knows better, our defensive play over the last several years continues to hurt us in big games. Rudder is a very good team, played good overall basketball; and once again defeated a BH team that I personally believe should not have lost.
Great season Lady Eagles. You guys had an awesome season!!!!

Hoopster-007 got a reaction from AthleticSupporter - Jock in Petition to remove head coach
My thought, independent of whether or not I agree with the protesters, is that I wholeheartedly support their right to protest - a long-standing protection afforded by the U.S. and Texas constitutions.  Obviously, the protesters's feelings and beliefs are important and strong enough that they resulted in the online petition.  What may be important to them may not be important to me, and what may be important to me may not be important to them. That's what makes America great...the ability for each of us to decide what's important enough to protest.  In addition, I wholeheartedly support the Coach/AD's right to administrate and coach his teams as he sees fit.  When all is said and done, the Board of Trustees will act, or not act, in the best interest of H-D ISD.

Bleedblue, I hope you are right.  I guess this old man still has a lot of ole school left in him which may be one reason I am having difficulty seeing "the vision."  Most of my knowledge and experience is on the girls side where we have competed from day one.  Unfortunately, we have not competed as well on the boys' side.
So, new coach....new facility...returning players?  Many many years ago when my friends and I played football, we loved the game and it didn't matter who was the coach or how lavish the facilities or equipment; we played.  Back in the day, we didn't have the best facilities or weight room, but we were consumed with getting bigger, faster, and stronger. During summers, we had cement weights inside the burgundy plastic...some of which were taped with gray tape to stop the cement from falling out.  But we lift weights at least 3 times a week, rotating to each other's  garage, and by our Jr. year we were benching 300 lbs+.
While I do acknowledge great coaching is a start, I have to admit that I am having difficulty visualizing quality players west of us passing up North Shore, etc., and those east of us leaving the Beaumont area to come to BH to play football.
Returning players?  I played junior high and/or freshmen football with multiple good athletes who quit football and decided to come back to play varsity their 11th/12th grade year.  No doubt, the time away from the game negatively impacted their play.
And, even with great coaching, great facilities, all the quality move-ins to BH, there has been and continues to be, certain folk who have become cynical; and truly believe "the politics" - not only to be disheartening - but a barrier that may have contributed to the mediocrity on the boys' side.

BH reported 1527 for this re-alignment.  6A is 2150 and up now.  It will be interesting to watch.  I can't imagine moving up at the 2018 shift but who knows.
I think 2-4 years is more accurate for BH to compete hard - but the foundation is being laid.  I've heard that a few true athletes that had left the program are back in with the coaching changes.  That will help.

I hadn't watched many 2A games, but both teams played well and would beat many decent 5A teams.

When I think of all the great women's coaches in Texas, Lombard is in my top 4 and it is impossible to be wrong with any of the 4. His son has won 2 state titles at Wall I believe, and I have them both winning again this weekend. He has also won I think 5 or 6 state titles in XC. Very Successful.
As for the comment about length and athleticism, 2 years ago they faced Georgetown in the state championship game. Georgetown was defending state champion and was in their last year before the town was fully split. They had 27 players on the roster, including 13 that were over 6 feet tall. 3 of their starters signed with D1 schools I believe. Plus their coach is another of my top 4 greatest. Everything seemed perfect for Georgetown to repeat, but Canyon had a freshman 5'4" who destroyed Georgetown and gave Canyon the title.
They are fundamentally sound and I have the Panhandle leaving San Antonio this weekend with 3 state championships with Wall winning another one. They play fundamentals and stress defense. They are patience. It won't be a 70 point game. Heck Wall won on Saturday 28-14. Different style, but it sure is fun to watch.
