  1. Anyone have any information on if and when this game will be played? It was lots of fun for the boys.
  2. Any word on if and when this game will be played?
  3. Thanks for the kind words for both boys. Will keep you updated.............
  4. Carnahan started his first game with Marion Military Insitute as DH in the 4 hole against Alabama Southern CC. Although his team fell to Alabama Southern, Carnahan had a strong showing going 3-4 with two singles, a monster shot over the left field fence (350 ft) into a head wind that drove in two RBI's for the team's first HR. He crossed the plate on his second single for another score. He will also share catching duties with a sophmore from Selma, Alabama. His PNG teammate, Mitch Todd, will get the start on the mound Thursday against Jones County JC. My husband and I surpirsed Jon driving all night and staying up 36 hours to see his first game. The look on his face when we pulled up made it all worth while. We hope to do many road trips to support these guys. Keep us in your prayers as we travel the roads between here and all parts of Alabama. Will keep you posted on these two locals from PNG.
  5. UPDATE ON PNG 2008 GRADUATES JON CARNAHAN AND MITCH TOOD: TAKEN FROM THE "PASS IN REVIEW", WINTER 2008 PUBLISHED BY MARION MILITARY INSTITUTE BASEBALL LOOKS PROMISING FOR UPCOMING SPRING The 2008-2009 MMI baseball roster is officially full with 35 players set to start play on January 30. With the end of fall practice upon us, the players are excited about the opportunities awaiting them this spring. This year's squad will feature 10 returning players from the 2008 team and 25 new faces to MMI. A goal for the coaching staff of Brett Davis and Jake Wells was to improve in all areas, especially in pitching and defense. Both areas should be improved with sophomores Stepen Grady, Robert Brown and Jeremiah Cothiere set to lead the staff. Key freshman pitchers will include Jordan Langley, Mitch Todd , and Chris Allen. The offense should also make a jump from the 2008 team which hit .325 last season while leading the North Division in stolen bases. Leading hitters from last year are Kyle Ely and Tyler Hollis with Newcomers Chris Allen, Jon Carnahan Roberto Castillo, and Jarius Brown looking to make big impacts at the plate this season.
  6. College level athletics in any sport is way harder than high school. At that level the coaches are expected to win (not that the high school coaches aren't expected to win) but it gets to another level. The school is basically paying for your education so it is more like a job. My son came home for the holidays from Alabama and went and worked out with his former high school teammates. When he got home he told me how "easy" the workout was compared to college. You really have to want to play because you are dealing with being away from family and loved ones, working harder and going to school all at the same time. Some can hack it and some can't. It just isn't as easy as some folks think.
  7. Jon and Mitch are at Marion Military Institute. It is a junior college for both atheletes and students that want to go on to one of the military acadamies like Westpoint. Neither Jon nor Mitch are going into the military. Half of the school's population are scholarship atheletes; baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, wrestling, etc.
  8. Also, don't forget the 08 grads that are getting ready to play all across the US. PNG Carnahan and Todd reported to Marion Junior College on August 9th and their fall season starts on September 2, followed by 38 games. Both have settled in nicely and are ready to play.
  9. Mid County 17-18 lost to Louisiana team last night 8-4. The first inning was a disaster for Mid-County, who committed a pair of errors behind starter Aaron Bender. The right hander also struggled by hitting a batter and issued a walk. La led 7-0 after the first inning. Mid-County had their chances in the early innings but they couldn't cash in and left six runners on base in the first four frames. In the top of the first, Will Fontnow reached when strike three went to the backstop and one out later, Randall Courville singled to put runners at first and second, but La got Sampere to bounce into a force play and struck out Jon Carnahan to end the inning. In the third inning with one out, Fontnow drew a walk and VJ Bunner singled to put runners at first and second but the left from La got Courville to bounce into a force play and he fanned Sampere to end the inning. Aaron McFarland and Jude Vidrine drew two out walks in the fourth that prompted a pitching change. New pitcher got pinch hitter Stephen McDonough to bounce into a force play to end the inning. After the rocky first inning, Bender settled down and retired seven straight batters until the fourth, when La tacked on another run. Mid County began to creep closer in the sixth, as Carnahan (who has struggled offensively) launched a solo homer to righ-center to make the score 8-1 and Mid-County put together a final rally in the seventh. Ben Jones led off the inning by blasting a solo homer to left that made it 8-2 and Taylor Robichau followed with a base hit. Bunner then drew a walk. Courville reached on a infield single to load the bases with nobody out, but La came up with a defensive gem that quickly put a damper on Mid-County's rally, as La pitcher got Mitch Todd to bounce into a 5-2-3 double play. With runners now at second and third and two outs, Carnahan rifled a two-run double that made it 8-4, but La pitcher struck out Harrington to end the game. Carnahan was 2-4 with three RBI's and Courville went 2-4 in the losing cause. Bender went 3 2/3 innings in taking the loss. He allowed eight runs, six hits and had three strick-outs. Mid- County plays tonight at 8:00 p.m. agains the winner of South Texas (Tri-County) and Seabrook Arkansas. (This information was taken from the Sports section of the El Dorado News-Times)
  10. Just read this post. Is there a website for this information? Thanks
  11. Who received this year's umpire association scholarships? Haven't seen anything in the papers or on this website.
  12. Thanks baseballsportsfan for the congrats to Jon. I know that there are quite a few people out there who were happy for him. Indians 89, from your post on another thread, no-I do not call the newspapers, TV sports, etc. If they are there, they report what they see. If they aren't, the coaches call. I would love to know who you are (of course, you won't come out with your real name I'm sure) because as far as I know in this area, Jon gets along real well with everyone. So, since you know who I am, lets see if you have the guts to tell me who you are.
  13. Can you please post the updated schedule? Thanks
  14. Is there a bracket schedule of games for both teams set yet?
  15. Were the players announced in the Beaumont Enterprise? We don't receive that paper.
  16. Congrats to Jon Carnahan and Nathan Minshew (PNG) 4A Academic All State Team - way to go guys!
  17. Congrats Dee Dee and Josh. Glad to see you guys staying together. Who knows, Jon and Mitch may end up one day with you guys - wouldn't that be fun? Go forth and show them the power of the Drillers!
  18. Sounds like the same kind of sportsmanship that the football team had. It must be an entire school district thing. Don't know about football PNG Proud, but I can definitely attest to their baseball team. Unfortunately, there were several players on LC team that were not very good sports. The reason #2 was tossed during the first game was because he had a third called strike and turned around to the ump and said something to the tune of thats bull.....! Also, unfortunately, their coach left a lot to be desired, so I guess that some learned from their coach. By the way, this doesn't have anything to do with us losing the last game. Our bats woke up a little to late in the second game but I couldn't have been prouder of our PNG players. It was tough on our seniors because thats when reality sets in and you realize that you go on to the next step and leave childhood friends behind. I would like to take this opportunity to commend my son Jon, for the effort he put forth all year, but specifically in this last series. He was 6 for 8 with several through downs for key outs. Catching back to back games is tireing, but he never gave up. I'm sorry if I'm tooting his horn, but he is such a good kid, I think he deserves a little recognition. To the other players on the PNG team, it has been a pleasure playing together and may the underclassmen take what they learned from the senior leadership and go forth and have fun playing the game you love!
  19. Thanks to Chris from the Beaumont Enterprise for writing this story. It will go in the memory book, waiting for the PNG State Championship article to go right along with it.
  20. When will the scholarship recepients from this year be announced?
