  3. Actually PNG lost to Lufkin, 12-2 and then beat Bryan 5-1. Games were very interesting - Coach pulled up 2 freshman and several sophomores and rotated positions all around. Guess that what scrimmages are all about................
  4. Can anyone help me - I have misplaced a number for Curtis, an umpire who also coaches the Red Sox out of Houston/Corpus Christi. Thanks
  5. First, let me start this out by apologizing to Helveston for a remark that was made about him negatively and about his mother. Thankfully, it was pulled from the thread before too many people saw it. I was having a bad day, which by-the-way, does not ever excuse me from saying publicaly what my personal opinion is, especially if it hurts another human being - so for that hurt, I am sorry. Let me know put what I should have put in the first place. A player stands out from the rest on several factors - first and foremost, what kind of "person" that player is. Are you a good student, a hard worker, a person that plays for the "team", works hard everyday at getting better and is a joy to coach and play with and watch? As parents, we have the job to produce good, contributing members of society, whether it is on the baseball field or a person working at Wal-Mart. We should use everything in our power to help our young people reach their goals, in a positive way. We give them the best of what we each can afford, but the most important thing we can give these young men (and women) is the lessons in life to make them good, caring, loving fair people that other people want to be around. I am working hard on that for my children. We all slip, but the important thing is to make it right and get back again and keep trying.
  6. Regarding Carnahan, we will just wait and let it play out on the field. Yes, both Rowell and Campbell are good and all three were on the same team with the SunDevils with Carnahan and Campbell splitting time behind the plate with Rowell doing the DH job.
  7. Carnahan from PNG - sophmore catcher last year stepped up when the Indians needed him and hasn't stopped since. Gained a lot of respect this summer. Has been asked to play on Team USA baseball next summer in the Netherlands (was spotted by the UT of Dallas coach at a showcase at San Jac this fall). Has OSU and quite a few other schools following him. Hit the long ball out of San Jac and out of Blinn this fall. Will be the best catcher in the area (no disrespect to the others, but Carnahan has worked real hard in the off-season and has the stats from the fall to prove it.)
  8. Must add Jon Carnahan (PNG) as catcher to First Team pick. Much more poised, mature physical player with plenty of college level exposure under his belt from this summer.
  9. yep an a great person to boot! Best of luck at LSUE
  10. PNG has quite a pitching squad - Harrington, Flores, Dominguez, Abbott, Carnahan, Todd, Sparrow, Spikes, Harrison, just to name a few. These guys are hungry and want playing time. Should be very interesting...........
  11. Dayton will be a big factor in baseball in 4A. Met up with the catcher at a College showcase and he is very strong. If the rest of the team plays like he did, Dayton will definitely put on a strong showing.
  12. Several players from PNG have been very busy this summer and fall - Harrington, Flores, and Carnahan have played all year with very good success. Flores, Carnahan, and sophomore Austin Sangster just returned from the Texas-Louisiana College Coaches Showcase at San Jac this past weekend and have quite a bit of interest following this team now. Harrington played in a tournament at Lamar and will have the Lamar coaches following his progress very closely. PNG will have a good run in their district this year due to the hard work in off-season baseball.
  13. Answer to question about Lott - he is believed to have a "strained" muscle. Headed to the doc this week to check it out. About PNG - Harrington, Flores, Abbott for sure. Will maybe see Carnahan on the mound with his "ugly" knuckle ball! This year's PNG squad will surprise a lot of folks.
  14. Had the pleasure to personally observe all the middle infielders mentioned. All of the players are D1 material. Ferguson is already signed, and Bunner will be signed by his senior year. Don't know if Riley is signed yet, but he will be soon. Lets all pull together for all of these great players from Southeast Texas
  15. PNG, Nederland, Vidor, LCM You will be surprised of the talent that will be present in these teams. Most have had players playing select ball now for quite a few years. Although most teams lost a lot of seniors, the players coming up are quite talented. Should be a good season...............
  16. And how could I forget out great SS, VJ Bunner from Vidor - he is doing an awesome job! Lookout 4A - it is going to be an interesting race this year with all of the new talent!
  17. Big Timers win the Greater Houston Area Tournament this past weekend. Local standout players include PNG's Jon Carnahan (batting close to .500 for the past three weekends (9-20, with a monster HR out of Alvin Community College, 4 doubles, 4 singles and 12 RBI's); strong pitching and hitting by Eric Harrington and Shawn Flores; good showing by Nederland's Beau Helmke and sophomore Jordin Pitts, Beaumont's Spanky Ferguson, Westbrook's Austin Huff and Ozen's DD Lott. The Big Timers will be playing in the Brenham tournament coming up this weekend. Good luck to all!
  18. Way to go Tim! Ole Miss is getting a quality player and great person! Congrats to you and your family!
  19. Our allstars lost 12-10. What a good job to get that far! congrats to all
  20. To answer your question, I bet if you put Carnahan's stats against Hussey, he would win in every category. Hussey is a great athelete, so I not trying to take anything away from him, just think Carnahan deserved it more. The two games they played together, Hussey struck out several times and had several passed balls. Again, not to take anything away from Hussey, just didn't see the pick as correct.
  21. Congrats to the ones that made it. I am disappointed in the second team catcher pick - think Carnahan from PNG deserved it more that Hussey.
  22. Carnahan from PNG. This sophmore excelled under intense pressure when having to take the helm from 3 year starter Blake Buchanan because of unfortunate circumstances. He helped guide this senior heavy team to the area play-offs with his quiet strength and hard work ethic. Season stats: AVG .339, SL% .419, OBP .457, GM 27, AB 62, R 11, H 21, RBI 11, PO 165, A 18, PB 7. He is also an excellent student.
