In the past 5 meetings between these two teams, Newton has beaten WOS 3 times. That is quite impressive for any team, much less a small 3A team. Can Newton make it 4 wins in the past 6 meetings come Friday? Not sure, but that does sound pretty sweet to say.

I'm no EC fan, so no hard feelings here. I was just referring to the "Lumberton vs. 3A" statement. That statement reads as if Lumberton would beat any and all 3A teams. There's an easy 10 plus 3A teams that would beat Lumberton. There's a little 3A purple team 50 minutes north of them that would hand it to them.

I'll agree with you on Lumberton winning this game THIS season. However, I don't quite agree with the "Lumberton vs. 3A" statement. East Chambers beat them 50-24 last year and would normally put a whooping on them every year. Though, they're in a rebuilding year, so I'll go with Lumberton.

I personally do not think Newton will beat WOS, but they will play hard and give WOS a good, competitive game. Newton will do really good in 3A D2 this year and has a chance to beat anyone in the division, but I think WOS will be too much this year. If Newton can keep it close and make WOS work for the win, then this game will give me great confidence in where Newton truly stands. By the way, I am rooting for Newton and hope they win, but I like to be honest with my thoughts and comments. I sure hope this game happens. This is much needed for Newton to prepare for a deep run and to be battle tested by a great team.

Newton 50 Kirbyville 7 I think Newton will be a little too much for Kirbyville this year. Though, I am excited to see what Trey Allen can do there this year and years to come. I would like to see Kirbyville become good competition to Newton once again because those games were looked forward to by many. On the other hand, Newton may need to work on being more diverse and balanced on offence early on in the season before getting to stout playoff competition. I understand that Newton does not need to throw the ball and could just run, run, run while beating lower 3A competition, but this is the time to practice and become more confident and efficient in doing so to prepare for playoffs. Gatson is the best RB in 3A football, but he can be slowed down by a well rounded stacked defenses. I hope to see a well balanced offence to alleviate the running game. I trust the coaches and support them fully, but I just felt like rambling my thoughts.

Newton 42 Woodville 14

Newton will end being a very good 3A football team this year. For the past 4 years, Newton has been one of the top teams in the entire state from 4A D1 and down. Newton is back down to reality and will compete well against any 3A team, just not the top 4A teams anymore. Though, playing Jasper and WOS before hitting the small 3A teams will help Newton's young players out tremendously. I honestly see Newton possibly bringing home a state title next year. Back to this game, WOS by 2 touchdowns. Go Eagles!

This is a great week for Kirbyville to cancel. Sorry, that was petty. Anyways, I think Jasper wins in a close one. Newton has a lot of key sophomores in key positions that will end up being very good, but they do not have a varsity game under their belt. Newton will get better every week, sweep their district and be a top 3A team in the state once again. They need time to find their identity, which will come. I just don't think Newton will be polished enough or experienced enough to beat a good Jasper Bulldogs team their first game of the season. Bulldogs in a close one, but I am rooting for my purple Eagles.

Newton needs this bye week. Gilmer will have their tongues hanging out in two weeks. It’s time to up the conditioning. The eagles are proving everyone wrong this season.

Great game, WOS. I am rooting for you guys. Newton has now won 3 out of the last 4 games against WOS. That is impressive. Newton has not missed a beat from last season. They’re so fundamentally sound and stacked with athletes for such a small school.

Don't get me wrong, I think the "dj" guy knows football. But, I totally agree with you when he has only a WOS perspective. He's definitely giving credit to Newton, but he's still only seeing one sided. He dissected Silsbee last season too, and was stating only reasons of why they would win. Then.... we all seen how that played out. I respect WOS and hope they win every game other than this weeks game, but we have to keep it real.

I root for WOS every game and hope they make it to state every year. I have respect for that program and what they have accomplished. That being said, I don't think the Newton Eagles will be losing to WOS this year. This is two fast, athletic, and well coached teams going at it. Newton proved so much last week and I will confidently say that they have not dropped off too much as we all thought they would. I think this game will be decided within a touchdown or two. Though, I said that last week and was completely wrong. Win or lose, this will benefit the Eagles. Good luck to both teams and may the best team win.

I can see your frustration as it frustrates me as well. Newton has a great chance at beating every 3A team this season once again, but I see the next three games going either way for Newton. They are pretty loaded when speaking of starters, but there is no depth this year. A few injuries could ruin Newtons year. If starters are healthy, then they could possibly have another undefeated season. Time will tell. As a proud Newton fan, I am definitely not going into the next three games thinking Newton will win with ease. All three games will be very close, but the Eagles could definitely end up with a few losses here and that should not be frowned upon if so. We all know Newton is good, but we have to stay humble and realistic.

You could be absolutely correct and I hope that you are right. I am going into this game by looking at a really good Silsbee team going to the 5th round of the 4A playoffs last season. That has to speak for something. As we all know, they have great ball players and they will find the endzone. I would love to see Newton win by 3-4 touchdowns, but I am predicting a close battle only because I think Silsbee is much improved.

Expect a great game to be played tonight. Newton put a thumping on Silsbee last year, but i think this game is decided by a score or two. I'm picking Newton to win 32-28.

I still believe Newton is the best 3A football team in Texas. I also believe Newton may very well lose two-three games this season between Silsbee, WOS and Gilmer. I do believe they will give all three teams hell and possibly win those games. Either way, Newton is very good and will benefit from the three mentioned teams. Go, Newton!

Lumberton would get killed by plenty of schools with under 400 students. It's okay to play them. Kirbyville just happens to be really down. They would get killed by a school 15 miles up the road in Newton and they don't even have 300 kids. Just line up and play. I think Lumberton wins by 5 scores.

I'm not going to say which player it is, but he's a 3-year starter and plays both ways. Next man up though. It would just help to have him. That's apart of the game though.

Newton has a very good player on both sides of the ball out for all of pre-district. With that said, I see Newton being a little down, especially due to depth. I think Silsbee has a better chance at winning this game now. Though, I still have to go with Newton until proven otherwise. It just hurts not having a good player while playing good teams like Silsbee, WOS and Gilmer.

I believe Newton is below 300 for their enrollment. EC is probably around the same as Kirbyville.

This will be a great game. I do not think Newton will win easily like most expect. Silsbee will have a lot more depth than Newton this year and has a great backfield that will see the endzone quite a few times. Though, I think Newton will outscore Silsbee to find the win. Win or lose, Newton will be a better team from playing a solid and fast Silsbee team.

Darwin played great when his name was called this weekend. Roney Elam had the best game of his career with A&M and is finally going to be a starter for a full season. So, I see him having a big year. The Foster brothers had good games with McNeese this weekend as well. It is exciting watching and hearing about all the Newton boys doing well.

I am glad to hear that. I was told differently then. He needs to be the QB. He is going to be really good. He's athletic and can throw. He will build confidence and I hope they throw it at least 10 times per game.
