Maybe he saw what he was working with at La Porte? More money but also more problems… lol

Nothing like running a program how you want vs having to answer to someone…

If Tarkington really did reach out to him he probably throughout a $ figure and said heck why not?

Plus at this point I think Tarkington just wants someone to stay for more than a few years…

La Porte will be good again here before long. Coach Berneathy is a great coach and he certainly gets the best out of his players.

I didn't say nor imply that it's a prerequisite to being hired.  There's no question that transfers happen all over the state every single year and some of those transfers may not be for legitimate reasons.  Who is anyone to judge? If a student/athlete finds a loophole in the flawed transfer system because of a school's facilities, team's history, or coach's personality then I guess it is what it is.  If a coach can successfully attract quality athletes for the betterment of the program through whatever means.. then I find it a quality.  The only viable answer would be for the UIL to make ALL transfers sit a calendar year regardless of the reason for transfer.  Otherwise.. like I said.. it is what it is.  As long as UIL leaves those many loopholes open, then I say you better keep your quality athletes happy or get ready to lose them.  And you better give other quality athletes a reason to come to your school because somebody else is if not. Many of the most well known, successful coaches out there had great years due to the enrolling of new players at the right time.  Or a favorable drop in classification.

You can't have a problem with kids transferring to East Chambers, Brock, Aledo, Carthage, Celina, etc. etc. etc... and be ok with Nick Saban dominating college football over the last decade or so.  You think colleges rely on home grown, local kids exclusively?

Celina folks only go the 4th qtr of the football game, because that's when the Celina kids get to play.

Heard that back in the 90s, when G.A. was the coach.

Make no mistake Moore was a cheating fool; obviously a ton of games though. If you aren’t cheating you aren’t trying right?

Bingo. Jealousy may play a small part in it, but from what I've seen the issue is mainly people with antiquated views on everything, including improvements to their school district. "We didn't have turf fields back when I played, so why do kids these days need it?" Sadly there are a lot of folks like this in SETX, and the high school athletic facilities around here mostly reflect that way of thinking.

Your "what we have is good enough" point is great, because people will say that in regard to local high school athletic facilities, then they will turn around and complain when our football teams get knocked out of the playoffs early (except for WOS and Newton usually) by schools with much better facilities. Top-notch athletic facilities certainly won't guarantee playoff success, but it definitely helps programs get going in the right direction.

Good for LCM, I wonder if Silsbee will ever get turf.

It blows my mind that Silsbee doesn’t have turf. I mean seriously why in the world don’t they have it? That’s a nice stadium, but the fact that it doesn’t have turf makes it not so nice.

All depends on who the AD is and what his priorities are.

Need to hire a football coach that is in it for the long haul, and willing to put in the work to develop a program and culture. Most people want instant success,  that is not going to happen in Tarkington.

They had the right guy and ran him out of town. Then Bass came in and wasn't willing to stay the course and build a program.

Definitely takes a special person in places like Tarkington.
