You missed my point. I said 1) it is rare for a SLOT-T offensive team to win state, not a running based team. Also, this kind of offense has to have dominant lineman to win the whole thing...dominant lineman, not good linemen.
    2) Everyone is not hooked on the spread. For goodness sake...it seems like half the teams in setx run that archaic offense (slot-T) and they almost never make a deep playoff run. What makes this scenario even sillier is that I think some of the coaches who run this offense would do so even if they had Earl Thomas or Deion Beasley on the team. It's all they know.

I'm not knocking the Slot-T because every team has to run an offense that best suits their athletes. But I disagree with categorizing teams that run a variance of this offense alongside all run-based offenses. Because if Slot teams could line up and run right at you from the I-formation, then they would.

Hola  SE Texans. Interesting matchup, seen Navarro only twice, last year and this year. Biggest thing I seen from those two times is the play of their qb, he can put the ball where it needs to be from what I've noticed. He wasn't the qb last year.
They seem to also be able to spread it out to mix things up. Region IV fan here so rooting for Navarro but no doubt WOS is the favorite and expected to win.
Their defense gets overlooked and might be their strength. IMO it's going be another good battle against R4 team.

That Calallen Semi in 2000 has to be the biggest showstopper though.

Great post! Of course  if u run the ball all night you will get yards but the question is how many touchdowns will be with those yards. To me if the other team is putting points on the board and all your running game is doing is getting yards but not scoring your running the clock out on yourself so how long will you stick with that

    A couple of things:
I'm interested in seeing how Navarro will react being "under the lights" for the first time- playing in NRG against the defending champs, first trip to the state semifinal... We saw what happened the last 2 weeks when WO-S got off to a "slow" start, I'd hate to see what a fast start looks like. Don't want to get caught watching.
That being said, I don't think WO-S has ever cruised through this round. It's always a dogfight at this point, no matter the opponent.
Sinton's QB could throw it all over the field, Cuero's QB had maybe the best individual performance I've ever seen against a WO-S defense despite getting knocked out of the game (twice, I think). It may take another performance like that for Navarro.
How many Slot-T teams does WO-S have to beat to prove that they can stop it? Lol. Every time we face one, this topic is brought up as a threat. Maybe it was two years ago, but I think it's safe to say they've figured it out.

The Navarro QB is no where near as good as the one from Sinton two years ago. That dude from Sinton could sling it or take off in a heartbeat. He was the best QB we saw in 2014. Even better than the Gilmer QB. The Navarro QB is committed to a run-oriented offense and also plays some defense. They don't throw very much, but their THREAT to throw is better than any other slot-T team we've played. They will take shots throwing downfield on occassion where all other slot-T teams just dink and dunk throws five yards past the line of scrimmage. Our secondary guys can cover them, but we have to be alert to this as part of their playbook.

Anyone can be beat on any given night. It's obvious that you don't know or understand this group of kids. They are different. They're focused on the goal and they focus on one game at a time. You just have to know the kids. I can assure you should something go bad wrong and we lost, it wouldn't be because they read the message board. Always have been different.

WOS isn't losing. I've never been more confident with a statement. WOS will win by at least 4 TD's

Losteraussie what's up? You sound a lil different on this thread! I thought you were in WOS corner the last few weeks but you seem to be taking a single comment very dear to heart! We aren't talking crap to be disrespectful to Navarro I think that after facing this offense for the 9th time this year and after only allowing 35 points to it in 8 games that some feel we definitely have the odds in our favor! It almost sounds like you may be pulling for us to be upset by someone! This game will be amazing and I for one can't wait to see it! Good luck to both teams!

I was thinking the same thing, td (about expectations and not appreciating the journey).  It really is amazing when the kids win a regional final by 6+ TDs and many of us (including myself) think, "well that's to be expected."  It is a testament to those kids and their coaching staff and the long hard hours they have put in for years.
I also wanted to give a shout out to KOGT and especially Gary and John for their support and coverage of the Mustangs.  For many of us who have kids at other schools, and are playing their own games on Friday nights, it is great for us to be able to keep up with the Mustangs and get to hear the action wherever we might be.  It cracks me up when I've read critical comments about them on this site.  For my money Gary is the Craig Way of HS sports broadcasting (I.e., far and away the best!) and Kimbrough is the best color guy he's had in the 20 years I've been tuning in.
Go take that next step Stangs in Houston on Friday!

Thanks for the kind words. I think as Mustang fans we get spoiled and expect so much from our boys. We should not forget to stop and smell the roses. What these boys do is simply amazing. Not to mention I think we had 12 seniors on the honor roll. Forgot to look at the other classes. Proud of the Mustangs!

    it does...but reference calpreps.com
...has WOS beating (THIS YEAR) College Station, Katy, Westlake, Richmond Foster, cibolo steele,  in a neutral site matchup. Laugh all you want but the site is has a 82% prediction rate. WOS does not have to play these games but it is fun to speculate...this years team is special to say the least
It also had them beating Temple by double digits...just saying

WOS, Orangefield, BC and LCM are all within 10 miles of each other. If they were to combine they'd be 6A.  But the tradition prevents that from happening as well as some school board members, county officials and some other reasons that everyone knows. My point is TJ, SFA and Lincoln had decades of success and tradition most importantly. Mergers generally do not go well with Forest Park, South Park and Hebert being a huge exception but even then 1982 was NOT a fun year from August until Thanksgiving.

Although I will say there are a few fans who go a little far with the "WO-S could win 5A" nonsense. While I'm appreciative that WO-S does still beat 5A teams regularly, I think some fans may be remembering the old 4A days, not recognizing that beating schools 3x our size isn't the norm. Anyway, I'll take another shot at the 4A D2 title over any of those hypothetical scenarios.

Oh come on now, I seem to remember everyone (including here) proclaiming 2014 Gilmer to be God's gift to football. And they pretty much were! But, the consensus was basically that WOS shouldn't bother showing up for that game. So for 2016 WOS fans to be seen as over the top is pretty funny!
