  1. There has been a vocal group for several years wanting to hire a person of color for the spot. It never really gained any traction until last year when a kid got kicked off of the team and the vocal group got a lot of outside help via the petition and a lot of social media attention. The super had already had his pick made clear before the job was posted, and the rest is History. It’s not a knock on the new coach or in any way based on his race. It just seemed like the super harnessed the race issue to hire a friend who just doesn’t seem to be in the same league as what was has had in the past. But that’s just an outsider’s perspective.
  2. Not at all. I’ve said it over and over… there is an army of kids in purple jerseys and their dads all dreaming about being qb1 at png. The kids/dads in BC all want to be the ace on the baseball team. No qbs are developed, so how are going to run the spread. In ‘14 our qb went down against LCM and we literally had the mlb under center. Spread offense without any form of a passing attack. There are only so many ways to disguise a draw play. i think we should be running a slot t with a little bit more of a passing attack like pleasant grove used to get on WOS a few years back. But what do I know?
  3. Not exactly… his oldest qb’d in ‘15 and we got Carthage in the first round. We had a local kid under center in ‘16 when we went three rounds. He’d played lb the year before. That fb was a horse, though, and he just-so-happened to move to bc from HJ the same year that the coach came over, lol. Don’t get me wrong… we’re not gonna compete for DCs year in and year out. But we’re the biggest school in the district and we’re gonna wind up winless, or so it seems.
  4. In all fairness, he couldn’t coach forever. Those signatures just gave the admins the power to make a really questionable selection. It hasn’t worked out so well so far.
  5. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that 6 years ago we went undefeated in District beating LCM, Silsbee, Huffman, Navasota, etc... I’d like to give a big shout out to the superintendent(s), board of trustees, and coaches who have brought about these remarkable changes. Losing ain’t so bad when you’ve got turf, I guess.
  6. [Hidden Content] Anybody recognize any names?
  7. Yeah! We were just behind when time ran out-they didn’t beat us!!!
  8. And your tax dollars for the next ten years won’t cover an ambulance ride.
  9. I take it he’s your kid?
  10. I thought y'all had a couple of starters quit the team this season?
  11. One of our kids got hurt at an STJFL game... not even a player, just had to go get some stitches at the ER. The league offered us their insurance information and I was confused. Sometimes you just need to stand on your own two feet, honestly.
  12. We always just used our own health insurance when ours got hurt. Didn’t realize that there was a school option.
  13. Agreed... I was thinking of how y'all would react if you're down 14 points in the third quarter to Jasper. In my mind it's a toss-up game.
  14. Agreed... but I don't think that this is one of those Jasper teams.
  15. Hmmmm..... This is a tough pick. I think you'd normally have to give WOS the edge with 16 returning starters, but that's just not a lock this year. Should be a good game, but the pot stirrer in me is picking Jasper so we can watch the Silver and Blue faithful LOSE THEIR MINDS!!!! It's going to be interesting to see how each team has progressed under new coaching.
  16. You didn't have to make it personal, bro!
  17. I’m just stating the obvious. If Newton wants to crow about beating bigger schools, they have to admit that they wouldn’t have any hardware if they actually had to face bigger schools once district started. They literally have a couple of scrimmages, some decent competition in non-district, then about ten more scrimmages until they get to about the third round. Then they beat three or four teams nobody has ever even heard of and celebrate like they won a true state championship. Forgive my trolling, please, sir. I don’t have anything else to talk about this year.
  18. Newton can beat up on a lot of 4a teams… but they still get handled whenever an Orangefield or Bridge City puts a decent squad together. There’s no shame in the fact that they are competitive with mediocre bigger schools and should be proud that once in a while they can even beat a decent bigger school. Facts are facts though… Newton would have exactly zero Regional Final wins if they’d been playing in 4AD11, much less SCs. Their accomplishments are cute, but don’t compare to the big boys. And BC would have more state championships than Carthage if we played down in 3A d2.
  19. Newton wouldn't get into the playoffs in 9 4A DII this year if WOS hadn't gone woke.
  20. That's not true... I heard it was because Newton fans were having panic attacks when they climbed our stands and realized that there wasn't a treeline and they could see further than 100 yards. They would literally huddle under the bleachers because the horizon freaked them out.
