  1. Kirbyville should still have everybody available come Fri night in Buna. We have got to chalk up this close call against Trinity as us being unprepared, and Trinity playing for their lives, and move on...thankful for the win. Now we have to regroup and take care of business, and I believe we can. Underdogs have ruled so far this yr in this district and now we're the underdogs. So, let's get 'er done.

Woodville.....should.....beat Coldspring. Should. They have more talent all-around than CS and much more size up front. Again I say.....they.....should.....beat them. We all know how much weight the word "should" carries in high school football though. Lol

A lot of surprises have happened so far this year...especially in this district. I don't believe there will be another one this Fri. No disrespect to CS, they are good, but Woodville reached that all-too-elusive 'different level' this yr. I say Eagles by 2+ scores.

  3. Ok I just looked at the scenarios of a 3 way tie for 1st in the unlikely event that Coldspring beats Woodville..

Right now, Buna is at a -15 (beat CS by 5, lost to Woodville by 20) so they can't take 1st no matter what.

If CS beats Woodville by 13+, they take first because they would be at a +8. (5 point loss to Buna, 13 pt hypothetical win over Woodville)

If that happened, Woodville would be at a +7. (20pt win over Buna, 13pt hypothetical loss to CS)

    Week 10 Scores

    Buna 43 over Warren 0
    Kirbyville 28 over Trinity 27
    Coldspring-Oakhurst 62 over Kountze 6
    Woodville BYE

    Week 11 Schedule

    Buna (+13) vs Kirbyville
    Coldspring-Oakhurst at Woodville (+8)
    Kountze (+6) vs Warren
    Trinity BYE

    Team / PF - PA / Record

    Buna / 248 - 207 / (6-3)(4-1)
    Coldspring-Oakhurst / 293 - 174 / (4-4)(4-1)
    Kirbyville / 270 - 180 / (6-3)(3-2)
    Kountze / 194 - 395 / (2-7)(0-5)
    Trinity / 175 - 309 / (3-7)(2-4)
    Warren / 58 - 311 / (1-8)(0-5)
    Woodville / 372 - 83 / (8-1)(5-0)

Week 6 of district play yielded exactly what we expected, aside from a much closer than expected game between Kirbyville and Trinity, which ended 28-27 in favor of the Wildcats of Kirbyville. Buna took care of Warren, 43-0. Coldspring-Oakhurst defeated Kountze handily, 62-6.

Week 11, or the 7th week of district play is exactly what we've all been waiting for in this district the entire year. All games are important to each school. Kountze and Warren battle it out to avoid a last-place finish. Kountze should win it, but the Warriors have a good opening to win their first game in district play. Buna hosts Kirbyville in a pivotal match-up. Buna's only hope of a share of the district championship is a win and a Woodville loss. Even then, the first seed is out of the question, but still alot at stake for them. I expect Buna to win a good game at home though. For the game of the week and the one everybody will be watching. Woodville hosts Coldspring in the eventual District Championship game. Implications are huge. Woodville has already clinched a share of the title, but could fall to second with a loss. Coldspring could clinch an outright championship by beating Woodville by 15 or more (correct me if I'm wrong. Point spreads confuse me). I expect Woodville to win at home, giving them their first district title since 2005 and their first 9-win regular season since 1983.

Scenarios for each team (correct me if wrong. I tried. Lol):

Buna: can clinch 2nd with win, or tie for 1st with win AND CS win

Coldspring-Oakhurst: can clinch 1st win 16+ point win, clinches 2nd with Buna loss AND win of 15 or less points over Woodville

    Kirbyville: clinched 4th seed

    Kountze: eliminated

    Trinity: eliminated

    Warren: eliminated

Woodville: can clinch 1st with win over CS, fall as low as 3rd with 16+ point loss to CS AND Buna win

    District Standings:

    1. Woodville (8-1)(5-0)
    2. Buna (6-3)(4-1)
    3. Coldspring-Oakhurst (4-4)(4-1)
    4. Kirbyville (6-3)(3-2)
    5. Trinity (3-7)(2-4)
    6. Kountze  (2-8)(0-5)
    7. Warren (1-8)(0-5)

    Game of the Week:
    Woodville vs Coldspring-Oakhurst

ALSO...would like to congratulate the Trinity Tigers on a great season, as tonight was their final game. They finished the season with a final record of 3-7 and their young team gained a world of experience. Look for them to compete well for a playoff spot next year!

Everything looks good except for Kirbyville clinching 4th. We actually could go as high as #2, but we'll have to work for it.

If we beat Buna, but by less than 9...or lose...then we're 4th.

If we beat them by at least 9, but less than 20, we're 3rd.

If we beat them by 20 or more, we go as #2.

This is all dependent on Woodville beating Coldspring though. If that doesn't happen, then we're 4th for sure and there will be a 3 way tie for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

    Whew...that's too much thinking. :)

No doubt officiating was bad but Trinity came to play tonight plain and simple can't take that away from them.

I agree all the way. If it sounded like I was trying to take anything away from Trinity's effort last night, it was poor wording and I apologize to any Trinity fans reading this. They played one heck of a game. In fact, the piss-poor officiating last night hit both sides. I saw a blatant face mask AND a blatant pass interference committed by Kirbyville that wasn't called. But early on, our defender timed a hit on their receiver PERFECTLY...I mean it was textbook... yet he was called for pass interference . Horrible, horrible, horrible call. Plus, they stopped and deliberated for what seemed like eternity on almost every... single... call. Just standing there, talking, before making the call and administering the penalty. It was SO freaking frustrating. Combine that with several times a flag was thrown, which stopped the game, but then was waved off cause the ref didn't know what he was doing. Yea the officiating was pathetic. But the fact is, like eagleswoodville#1 said...we're better than this. We should have easily taken this game. I don't know if we were looking ahead or what, or if Trinity has been holding out all season...lol, but it turned into a much closer game than it ever should have been. We have got to get it together next week. We have the talent to beat Buna by the margins we need to, it's just gonna depend on if we want it bad enough.

Trinity has the athletes to be tough, but being unprepared, undisciplined, and penalty heavy are not going to help them be successful. Kirbyville wins this one,  won't be close unless the Wildcats are looking ahead a week.

We're not looking ahead. We need to take control and win BOTH of these last 2 games in order to go into the playoffs in good shape. I think we'll take this one fairly easily, but we need to stay focused.

    Wasn't that an excuse?  Smh...

An excuse for what? That we lost to Coldspring? Not at all. They were the better team that night...fair and square. No complaints on this end. I brought it up so you'd know that we'll have more bullets against y'all than we had against them and trust me...they all will be firing.

If you think for one minute you're getting the same team that played Orangefield you will be sadly mistaken

Oh no don't misunderstand me, I know Buna is greatly improved since that game. (Didn't have anywhere to go but up actually) What I'm telling you is that yall beat Coldspring, a team that beat Kirbyville, so it would be easy to assume yall have the game against us in the bag. That's a very big negative there ghost rider. Kirbyville will be very much ready and very much prepared and will be more than your cougars can handle. Mark my word, save this post, whatever. Kirbyville will take the #2 spot AHEAD of Buna.

Yes I am and I almost nailed the 12 point win by the Cougars on the head.  I guess you are definitely a Kirbyville fan...No excuses in 2 weeks.

Agreed...no excuses. We were 5 starters short, along with Ty playing injured, when we lost to Coldspring. And yet we still almost pulled that one out. We'll have had 2 easy games plus a bye week by the time we play Buna. Everybody will be healed and rested and ready to take the #2 spot in district. Good luck, but I feel sorry for yall that things fell like they did. Oh and don't forget, we easily handled Orangefield cause everybody was healthy....the same Orangefield team that took yall to the woodshed.

  10. Ok so someone please correct me if I'm wrong..

If Kirbyville beats Buna, that'll create a 3 way tie between Kirbyville, Buna and Coldspring which would take it to a point spread tie-breaker.

Right now, Coldspring is a +7 (12pt win, 5pt loss) So in order for us to take 2nd place we'll need to be at a +8...which means we need to beat Buna by 20 or more (20pt win, 12pt loss) That would put us #2, Coldspring #3 and Buna #4.

If we beat Buna, but by less than 20, then Coldspring goes as #2, us #3 and Buna #4.

If we lose to Buna, then they'll go as #2, Coldspring as #3 and us #4.

This is all of course assuming Woodville continues their dominance and beats Coldspring, and nothing else crazy happens when these 4 play the non-playoff picture teams.

  11. 29 minutes ago, aTmfan06 said:

Because woodville has enough players for a 4th string

Actually if you have only 11 players, you could theoretically have all the way to an 11th string. Just put players in different positions. For example put your safety in at running back, or your left tackle at QB, etc. Having a 2nd or 3rd or 9th or 20th string doesn't have to mean having enough players to substitute in to those positions. It just means substituting players in to spots they don't normally play.

  12. I always thought of how much it would suck having to hope for this to happen or that to happen in order to end up in a particular playoff spot....but now here I am. We need Buna to beat Coldspring by more than 12, and us to beat Buna by more than 12. That would give us the #2 spot in district. Probably won't happen, but I'm hoping.. :)

Yes at eagleswoodville#1 the Trojans and the Eagles are more evenly matched.  The Trojans have had to work out kinks in their defense pre-district matchups!!! Coldspring has always been known for having some speedy running backs.  The Woodville Eagles for years have speed which was displayed on the football field as well as the track arena.  The Trojan team this year has an large amount of underclassmen therefore that explains some of the mental slip up that have occurred earlier in this season I believe.

No disrespect to you guys at Coldspring but no, you do not match up with Woodville. I'm afraid you're in for a rude awakening. Woodville is playing at a different level this yr. I'll be very very shocked if yall can keep it within 3 scores. Jmo...good luck though proving me wrong. :)

  14. Got a question for you eagleswoodville#1. I know you've said that the reason yall still go for 2 after each TD is because yall don't have a kicker. Ok, I get not trying for an extra point early on, but once you build a decent lead, why not just let one of yalls guys try to kick an extra point? Why still go for 2 solely because you don't have a good kicker? It's the same concept as putting in back-ups after building a big lead. Surely somebody on the team would like to see if he can hit one. Who cares if he don't make it? Lol.. Know what I mean? Have yall tried for a pt after at all this yr?

Grate game Trojans enjoyed it. Proud of the Kats they played hard and gave it all they had.

Not having #1 Erving # 5 Smith #28 Reeves #34 Adam's  and #7 Fentress (didn't practice all week but tried to play),  big #70 Z.O. tried to play too but just not ready, and #85 Diggers looks like pretty serious shoulder injury early, made for a tough week against a good Trojan team.

But CS earned it and did what it took to get a well deserved win  on the road.  Congrats

Plus Ty hurt his wrist early on. We just were too deep in the hole from the start to dig our way out. But our boys still made me proud. If everybody had been healthy, this would have been a very different outcome.

So are Coldspring and Woodville more evenly matched than many thought at first?

That's gonna be a no. We competed very well with Coldspring despite the odds against us with so many key players out. We never once were in the game against yall. CS earned this win...no complaints or whining on our end and all due respect to CS. But they won't beat Woodville. It'll be a 3+ score win for yall.

Half of their penalties backer were for breaking huddle with 12 that's no playing favorites. Another penalty they had was on 4th and 2 and they jumped offsides on hard count. They got called for ineligible receiver down field once where they wanted a screen but newton read it and the QB scrambled around and finally through the ball but all the lineman were down field and ball was thrown pass line of scrooge another legit call. And they had a few false starts all legit penalties.

I read back on the thread some and saw this crazeddeer dude was complaining early on when they were down 28-0 that Newton wasn't good, they had only gotten lucky. Lol.. My apologies for defending him. I mean there are some frustrating games to watch because of the refs, but this does now look like a sore loser grasping at anything. Good win Eagles, and congrats to Crockett on not giving up.

gonna have to catch one of those Eagles games looks like there better than they may have ever been :)

You won't regret it if you do get the chance to watch them...they are as solid as I've ever seen them be. Their offense is unusual in the way they line up. It's a VERY tight formation when they come to the line. Almost looks like they interlock their legs and sides are touching. Lol.. But they run it to perfection. If I get the chance I might go watch them play Coldspring.

  19. This is why I can't stand it when the refs make their presence known in a game. I was not at this game and I have no dog in this hunt, but I will say I have seen games like what crazeddeer saw...where it appears the refs were definitely playing favorites. Cut him some slack because with Crockett having twice as many penalties as Newton, he might have a point. I'm not saying Newton wasn't the better team, and I'm not even saying the calls (or lack of) were incorrect. But I mean come on...let the boys play the game. Many many things can and do interfere with a team's momentum that become game killers and refs are no exception. Doesn't mean somebody's whining. They're frustrated and a LOT of times...justifiably so. Twice as many flags?  ....I'd say he's got a point.
