2022 Scrimmages/Scrimmage Talk
Clueless replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in High School Football
I get that, but it’s the little things that are concerning. Personally, I would’ve like to have seen the second string QB run with the first string. A lot of 3rd and longs that we couldn’t do anything with. I did think the defense was much improved. We have a couple weeks to shore some things up. Speed was a huge factor. -

BH scrimmage is brutal. May be a long year. -
Lol, he was all-American and tore it up in track too, but ok. You still ain’t named an SFA player better? 😁
-
You had me until you said SFA was better then WB. That’s laughable. Forest Park had a guy, my cousin Johnny Norwood I would put up against any athlete from SFA.
-
I think merging Lincoln, TJ, and SFA was a mistake. Right now they would probably have 4a TJ, 3a Lincoln, and 2a SFA. They could’ve competed better at those levels more so then being memorial. Beaumont United is a different situation. It’s more political with the merging of Ozen and Central. Ozen was a beast in basketball, but neither were jaugernauts in football. Personally, I think they should’ve kept Ozen at WB, redone a couple areas and stayed Central and WB.

Good thing is Sam Houston is playing UTRGV this weekend and ACU next weekend. It’s not over. We finish with Tarleton at home. -

Have to find some pitching. Last time BH lost first round was to PNG when they won state. -
FRI. MAY 6TH- UTRGV- 9 LAMAR BASEBALL- 5 FINAL
Clueless replied to KF89's topic in Lamar Sports Forum
UTRGV and ACU are pretty good. ACU beat Texas Tech and TCU a couple of weeks ago. UTRGV has probably best Friday night pitcher in the WAC and has some really good hitters, one a graduate transfer from Mississippi St. They also have a couple quality wins over bigger schools this year. Problem is nobody in WAC except Grand Canyon has been consistent. Welcome to college baseball. -
FRI. 4/29- LAMAR BASEBALL- 8 SAM HOUSTON- 7 FINAL

Showed some grit tonight. Hopefully make a late season push and make some noise. -
TUES. 4/26- LAMAR BASEBALL- 4 HOUSTON- 1 FINAL
Clueless replied to KF89's topic in Lamar Sports Forum
Pitching starting to come around a little. If we can get consistent on good relief pitching, watch out. Solid win tonight. -
I think they go 8-7 on the next 15 games to finish at 32-23 overall, and 17-13 in conference with a spot in WAC tournament in Mesa, Arizona.

4/20/22 Houston Baptist 1 Lamar 0 Final
Clueless replied to snakehead26's topic in Lamar Sports Forum
Pitching held up, but couldn’t get runs. Although HBU has a terrible record, they’re currently tied for first in SLC. I agree, we should be beating HBU though. I just scratch my head. -
FRI. 4/15- LAMAR- 14. OKLAHOMA- 11 FINAL @NORMAN, OKLAHOMA
Clueless replied to KF89's topic in Lamar Sports Forum
Not many teams walk into Norman and get 20 hits and 14 runs. Great day for Lamar baseball. -

Why Hasn't Beaumont United Been More Successful?

This has been going on since the merger between French, BCP, South Park, Ozen, and Forest Park. Welcome to Big Money Texas😁 -
Lamar heading back to Southland Conference
Clueless replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in Lamar Sports Forum
Back in the mid 2000’s Lamar made a push to up enrollment. They hit D/FW and Houston hard, built new dorms to get more kids on campus, but when the President at the time, I think Dr. Simmons left so did the vision. They built an Honors college and Administrative building like 6-7 years ago and that was the first academic building built in over 40 years. Like I said, Lamar has failed to plan or put anything in place to make it attractive to outside folks not interested in Engineering or Masters program for adult teachers. They have I believe the largest endowment in Southland Conference, but no vision. At this point they should just try to get as many local athletes that can make them competitive until they figure out a larger game plan. -

Lamar heading back to Southland Conference
Clueless replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in Lamar Sports Forum
A quick look shows the average Sunbelt Conference school athletics budget is $35.5 million and Appalachian State was over $37 million. That’s over twice the amount that Lamar spends. Like I said, Lamar University board of regents, alumni, Presidents, and former AD’s are the reason they’re in this position right now. City of Beaumont too -
Lamar heading back to Southland Conference

I don’t have defeatist attitude, I’m speaking facts. You not getting athletes outside area to come to an area that is boring and a college that made for commuter college. The only fix is dump A lot of money into the athletics department and the surrounding area of Lamar. If not, we’ll all be on here 10 years from now still complaining. -
Lamar heading back to Southland Conference
Clueless replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in Lamar Sports Forum
Last year, only 12 out of 30 conferences had multiple teams from their conference made a baseball regional. Only 10 conferences had multiple teams in March madness for basketball. Football at Lamar level is majority one team conference playoffs. point is, there’s no conference nowadays that works financially for a school like Lamar. We are who we are, unless the powers that be spend money and change the image of Lamar. Kids aren’t knocking down the door to attend Lamar and live in Beaumont. Not happening. It would take a major overhaul of area, adding nice off campus housing, bars, restaurants, and other college activities to change kids minds. Just my opinion. -

Lamar is in need of facilities upgrade too. They don’t have money or don’t want to spend money to upgrade facilities. Turf at Vincent was a bandaid. They need to revamp that whole place. No reason to have 3,500 seat stadium when you average about 1,000 for home homes. I would make it smaller with new covered stands, new locker rooms, concession stand, outfield wall, scoreboard, etc. Lamar belongs in Southland because of the fact they aren’t all in on sports either. -

I would be super surprised if SFA doesn’t announce the move back also. Sam Houston and New Mexico St announced they’re leaving WAC next year for conference USA. What a mess. UIW and UT-Arlington announced going to WAC next year. Wonder if they back out now? -
Lamar heading back to Southland Conference

Sounds like it was probably a two way welcome back. The Southland needs a football school and Lamar needed a place to save athletic budget money. Plus, the Southland made McNeese their flagship
