That's pretty high expectations for next year's squad. I know you're optimistic cause your boy will be on varsity but Dayton losing Keener, McBride, Baughmann AND Chambers is going to hurt even more than Crosby losing the Twins. All Dayton returns on offense is the few yards Styner rushed for, Crosby returns over 4000 yards of offense. I know Dayton was high on their JV but Crosby beat them too. Dayton will probably lose at least two district games to Crosby and King just because they don't matchup well with the running games those teams will bring.

Crosby was able to mitigate the loss of the Twins and Raelon because we brought a serious defense to the table, Dayton was good last year because of their potent offense but I don't think that offense will be the same, at least I know ours wasn't. Dayton might return a lot of starters on the line and on defense but the linemen will be negated due to the fact Dayton won't line up and run it at you anyway. If you want to hang the hat on the defense I think Dayton is in even more trouble, it would be hard to go from worst to first defensively plus there's no physicality in the front seven. That won't bode well when you face a senior Jalen Hurts, a senior Tray Williams, older backs from Crosby and I'll even throw in Terio Brown from Humble who's one of the top backs in the state for the 17's. We'll see though Pride, we'll see.

If you look at what Crosby has coming back and what they are adding all signs point to another good year. The thing that runs people the wrong way is COOG just doesn't sugar coat anything. I say it like this, PNG may put up 49 every game, but when you give up 50, it doesn't matter. You have to be able to stop somebody. When you have to play mistake free on one side of the ball, it normally doesn't turn out good. Also, you guys(PNG) have gotten drilled recently in the playoffs. New year, hopefully you get a good matchup in the 1st round this year(not Crosby or CE King).

Just thought I should add in also Keener's recruiting profile. He was the best receiver in the district this year and rated a 3 star prospect. The reason he didn't sign is probably not the same reason McBride didn't sign. 945 yards and 14 tds in only 45 catches, that's about legit as it gets with his size included.

Pretty interesting thread. I think this outlines the difference in expectations between the good teams over here compared to our friends across the river with the exception of WOS and maybe Ned. Dayton wins 6 playoff games in 5 years but the roof is caving in, while PNG can't win any but their program is considered to be heading in the right direction. Lots of people in Dayton think Hancock is not that good of a coach(I agree compared to Stewart), but he's been to the third round once(maybe twice in '10?) and has back to back one point 2nd round losses with one being to the state runner-up. He's won at least 8 games every year except one he's been a head coach and that year he went 6-6 with the one point loss to Brenham. Matthews would get a statue in Vidor if he did that, heck they might build him one anyway for his average record of 4-6.

There's a few of things Dayton fans have to take into consideration when talking about their perceived "demise" of Bronco football. For one, rarely does any team have a run like Dayton did toward the end of Stew's tenure. Two, Dayton probably had their most talented teams of all-time during that stretch with Dugat being an all-American, Cody Green being a 4 star qb and guys like Ripkowski for filler. There weren't and still aren't many 5A teams with that type of talent. Third is the enrollment. Dayton used to be in the top third or at least no lower than the middle in district enrollment, at the next realignment they're almost sure to be the smallest school in the district which is a competitive disadvantage. In 22-5A Dayton probably would have won the district with all that being said.

Lastly, Hancock isn't Stewart. Dayton fans, welcome to Crosby's frustration circa Jimmy Dickey and Kevin Flannigan.

Yeah, maybe even next year. I'll go ahead and call my 2015 shot now. Crosby will get to 14-0 going undefeated in district and win the region again rather it be D1 or D2. We'll take out the 25-5A rep in the semis and play for a title for the first time since 1960. I also expect Code Red to challenge for the state's #1 ranking at some point during the season. How about that?

Remember, before the season started last year I said Crosby would go 10-0 in the regular season and everyone laughed. We were 7 points away from doing that. '15 is the year where it should all come together.

A PNG poster made the comment about Faircloth being able to play Central close with the 12 signees. King has one D1 kid but still put up 699 yards on Central and was up by 40 when they called off the dogs. My point was that while Faircloth is a good coach for being able to play y'all close, Price was fired at BH for a similar record as Faircloth's current one but when you gave him just a few players his coaching ability blew away Central's talent. Some people will compare Faircloth to Foreman, but some will compare him to the guys that beat the brakes off Foreman even with his host of riches is all I was saying.

Good post. Hopefully now you realize the guy you were calling a coward, hater, and saying he didn't know what he was talking about was just giving you a football opinion from a perspective of someone who's been through the process. When there's grown men who's families depend of their abilities to sway kids to come to their schools, integrity becomes secondary in a lot of cases. You have to make your own evaluations off precedence and a non-biased comparison to his peers. Glad it worked out for your son in the end and congrats, I hope he has a great career in Lake Charles.

Come on man, I would expect the "y'all must be state champs then" remark from someone else but I thought you were a little more of a football guy instead of a "feelings" guy? That guy didn't know what he was talking about so I lined his opinion up with the box score to show the fallacy. Don't worry though Mayfield, it's almost over, your boy will be a junior next year so there's only 4 more possible chances to lose to Crosby. Before he leaves though, I hope I get to watch him and my son go 1 on 1 a few times. Good health to your dogs next year.

To be fair though, probably half of the recruiting class a school signs is filled with kids that weren't their first choice. I think it's a testament to Locke that he's willing Togo to a place and compete that already has two of the top 20 safties in the country signed. That Texas degree probably carries a little more weight down here than that Oregon degree does with employers too. Good for him.

Well hold on during renovations they put up a couple more titles and big 12 titles on the wall at new stadium. What got Mack brown fired was garret Gilbert he sold out on him and then had only at best a B- qb to follow up.

Sumlin's best year ended in a Cotton Bowl victory over OU. Even with 6th year record setting qb Case Keenum he couldn't beat Southern Miss to win C-USA. Once the film was in A&M started losing more and more, kind of like Muschamp at Florida. Even a lot of his coordinator success was due to the guys like Art Briles and Dana Holgerson who he was on staffs with. Sumlin is a great recruiter which is where a lot of his success comes from.

Strong on the other hand, is a guy that after winning titles with Urban Meyer branched out and became even more successful. Tough first year at Louisville but a couple of years later he was beating his old team, Florida, in the Sugar Bowl. After that he follows it up with another 1 loss campaign and destroys Miami at the end of the season. Sumlin jumped out strong, wins two less games than his initial season, gets a raise them loses even more games. But hey, I know to Aggie fans finishing in 8th in the SEC is better than finishing runner-up in the Big 12 any day.

Question is how long will recruits see it that way?

I just saw they confirmed it on Burnt Orange Nation. Closer to home and better defensive coaching. He's part of what's now probably the best class of Dbs any Texas school has ever signed. Texas is now also in the running for 4 star DB Marcus Lewis. Charlie is ridiculous coming off a 6-7 season, had he signed Mack the NCAA might have been in town, lol.

I know is Whaley is considered to be one of the heaviest A&M leans in the 2016 class but I wonder if that puts Texas in play for him also now?

Lol, alright man. I guess "blowing smoke" is what you call it when facts are relayed? Sage is a baller, but he wasn't running over anybody in the third quarter guy, especially the 2nd best 5A defense in the region. Maybe if you make 10 more post you'll have some facts to go with your opinions, lol.

You do know that the top teams in your mighty SEC west all lost in their bowl games with most being dominated right? You did see the 42-3 beating TCU handed out to Ole Miss right? For the second straight year Bama was beat down by either OU or Ohio State. Miss St. got it handed it to them by a bunch of 3 star kids running the triple option. I think the SEC gave up about 40 per game this bowl season.

Recruits will realize that all A&M will be is what they've always been which is a middle of the road program that has a good year every now and then. You can pitch a the SEC stuff you want but when recruits see you get beat down 59-0 on national tv then the smart ones will realize it's a lot easier to win at other places in the state. Three good recruiting classes and the record has still slipped each year. You can keep saying how tough the SEC is but all the kids see is the record getting worse each year.

You just have to let Ag run with it. If it doesn't smell like fertilizer they don't know much about it. Texas tries to hire a 3 time state champion coach and there's a conspiracy, yet Chad Morris wins three or four titles in a row at Lake Travis and him taking a Tulsa job is seen as an upgrade, not some backhanded way to get Garrett Gilbert to sign. Better yet Briles leave the Stephenville job for UH and nobody has a problem when Kendall transfers from Texas. Corby Meekins and Claude Mathis leave two of the premier talent producing programs in Texas to go coach in the American Athletic Conference and they're viewed as great hires around the state. Heck, even Gus Malzhan was coaching high school less than a decade ago but I guess since he's in the SEC it doesn't matter.

Charlie is doing what any good coach would do, he's trying to get the best fit/recruiter he could for his staff. Why not grab a guy much like Mathis who knows the ins and outs of DFW recruiting? Oh yeah, in the process they're going to triple his salary also. Ag doesn't see it like that though, they think Texas is buying recruits now. Ag might be the next Hail State when they tried to recruit Cam Newton. They tried to tell on Auburn for buying Cam, when the NCAA asked how they knew they basically said ". . . Because we tried to pay him first". Pretty sad, Ag leaves the Big 12 for the SEC and the IQ goes up in both conferences. Smh.

Having big numbers would be a product of the volume of passes PNG throws. It's like Georgetown was a few years ago with their pair of 1k yard receivers, nowhere close to the best core in the state but Hubanek threw it so much they caught a lot of passes and had good numbers. A better example is if you were to throw one of those guys on the other side of Rose who put up big numbers. It would be a solid core but the number of targets they would get would inflate their numbers. Rose probably had 20 targets to get about a dozen catches but only had like 130 receiving which is why he didn't get the FBS offer people in PNG thought he should. Singleton had less than half the catches that same year but had like 12 or 13 FBS offers because of his playmaking ability. There's a difference between "pass catchers" and "playmakers" which the best cores would have multiple of. PNG schemes guys open, the best receivers just flat out beat the coverage.

You took the words right out of my mouth... Bottom line is you are what your record says you are. At this time we are a 1rst round team... Period. Im not a booster/tailgate/Mondaynight meeting guy.  Im a realist.. BF is a good Offensive guy. What he lacks is on the other side.  We have proved video game numbers get you much of nothing. We will always be small, and undersized defensively. We make up for that with hard work, dedication, determination, and tenacity... Simply put, HEART.. I do think we are average to above average at QB, and WR. McZeal shows flashes, as well as Giblin. OL and DL IMO is below average. We will have 1 good linebacker and 1 good Safety returning. These guys have valuable experience from last year.  After watching the championship games on TV, I thought, man we can play with the WOS and Gilmers of the world.. Once the 5A games came on i realized we are nowhere close to being able to play with these guys.. My hats off to Crosby. Didnt watch them last year, but they must have been impressive to play with those folks. At Rb I think we will be average at best. Cropper has not shown the ability to stay on the field at all due to injuries. Thats due to his size... Runnells has great break away speed, IMO he is a poor mans Caleb Harmon, with the skills to improve through the season. Would like to see Girourd get involved possibly as a slot guy. We are to predictable with the deep ball.  As we know you cant always outjump the corner to make a play. The good defenses shut that down quickly. Hopefully the lineman get bigger and stronger over the season and a few more emerge. All that being said I do feel we are a playoff team, with the possibility of getting out of the 1rst round if we play to our abilitys. I also get tired of hearing about QB records, but to BFs credit, with a small line, rolling out and throwing is sometimes your best option.  Shore up these few areas and show a little balance and quite possibly we can play with the big boys.. First line of work should be to beat Nederland..... Do that and everything else will take care of itself...
