Was Punishment to Hard on Devin Mccain
oldschool2 replied to BADSANTA's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Just my 2 cents.. It's not the UIL's business to step in and decide how a school district carries out something in their athletic policy. Just saying. -

Honestly, at this point, it matters ZERO what anyone thinks of the punishment. It is what it is. Focus better shift to how Silsbee will handle playing without the kid. And I love when people say things like "we'll be ok"... "business as usual"... Easy to say. But, if anyone thinks that this won't change things then they are foolish. -

Voice of reason. Finally. Like I said earlier...it could have ben avoided so I don't care what the punishment is. If I were the coach the season would be over for him. But as stated earlier...not solely up to the coach. And even if suspended 5 games...not sure how much playing time I would want a kid to have who's missed 5 games because of a bad decision. My opinion is that I would stick with the kids that had won playoff games up to that point. Assuming they're still playing when/if his suspension was over. That's just me. -

No matter what the punishment was it wasn't too much. Bottom line...the punishment could've been avoided altogether. Don't get in trouble and there are zero negative consequences. Simple concept. -
Truth.

Yes. The numbers are staggering. And they're fairly similar will all sports. I read one time that the chances of getting an athletic scholarship are the highest in women's golf. Which is still less than a 2% chance. I always use basketball as an example (ex college player). Not only the vast numbers of high school seniors..but also every kid that plays at at junior college and every 18/19/20 year old that plays overseas that would love to play college ball in the states. Number of D1 schollies given every year...about 4000. And like those numbers suggest it is quite a feat. I think there's about a 3% chance of a high school athlete making a college roster. Of all of those college athletes there's about a 1% chance of turning pro. I really wish people would be honest with their kids about it. If a kid wants to know they should just ask me. "Think I could play college ball?" What's your GPA? "What's that?" Nope. How tall is your daddy? "5.." Nope. What's your 40 time? "5.." Nope. What's your vertical leap? "Twenty..." Nope.

Best player or players off every team in SETX
oldschool2 replied to Mamba's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Probably the best guard in Sabine Pass for sure. -
And her husband was the girl's basketball COY also. I believe. Definitely, something to be proud of.

Always good to see kids getting an education. No matter the reason.

It had nothing to do with you...or the comment you made referring to Silsbee. WOSgrad had been butthurt and mad at me since football season because I said something one time about his football team that indicated that they weren't the best team in the universe. He's been finding excuses to try to make me look bad ever since. Watch...he'll reply to this thinking that I'm actually affected by it. No worries.

2A REGION 3 who will win the region??

Grapeland or Tenaha -
You remind me of my oldest granddaughter. No matter what I tell her, no matter how plainly I say it...she still thinks she's right. Kids. smh...

Definitely not offended. You must not know me very well if you think in the slightest that you could offend me. I'm just enough of an adult to know that there should be a difference in the way certain people comment on group forums. And in a situation where a person can be labeled as "Admin", without pay, on a high school sports forum that literally doesn't matter outside of one tiny geographic area of this state...even under those circumstances, you sir are a disgrace.
-
The fact that you have SETXsports Director/Manager underneath your username is a joke. The way you talk to the members of this site when you don't agree with their opinion speaks volumes. AAW should be proud of having you labeled "Admin". Just saying.

I understand that you're in love with the idea of making me look bad...but you may want to re-read the threads from top to bottom. I didn't say anything about Silsbee....I quoted what someone else said. Nice try, though.

Let's just agree to disagree. They haven't even won it in their own classification yet.

Will there be a 5A team from SETX at state?
oldschool2 replied to BADSANTA's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Will there be ANY (insert classification here) SETX school at state? Based on score and records I'm seeing Silsbee may be the only hope for a SETX representative. -
Say what you want. This thread was stupid. When I see or hear something stupid, I make sure it's known that I think it's stupid. Nobody had to respond...yet here we are.

I'm pretty sure officials get to choose the games they call based on seniority. The seasoned refs (probably better) choose big games because the level of play is better and they may even get a portion of the gate money. Sorry. Way it works.

Are you serious?.. Lol. Calm down, dude. Did you not read the flurry of compliments I made in my previous post...including saying that I DO NOT think Carthage would've beaten WOS this year? Very few times in my life I've seen as much butthurt at WOS fans feel when someone says or implies any little indication that they aren't the absolute best football team to have ever played the game. By the way...it does matter who you're playing sometimes. I do believe WOS was good enough to win either division in 4A, but if you think beating a crappy team 70-0 means you can beat a good team 70-0 then I don't know what to say. Because that's pretty dumb.
-
We'll never know. Here's what we do know... Carthage won the state title in a higher division. In football that says a lot. I know WOS had a great team. But it's impossible to say what they would've done in a higher division. In the past WOS hasn't done well when in the same division with a lot of those schools. I know it's a different team...but still don't know. Here's what else we know. WOS had a couple of nice preseason wins. I think Bridge City and Kennedale were good wins...but the other schools on the preseason schedule were not that impressive. Then they played a joke of a district (except Liberty was halfway decent). They beat Bellville, Giddings, and Navarro in the playoffs which were very similar to Liberty as far as talent level. I'm not taking anything away from WOS because they had a perfect season. 16-0 and did it in convincing fashion. But to say the state champ in the division above them isn't close...I just don't know about that. I'm not convinced any school WOS played in the playoffs would've gotten past round 2 or 3 in a division higher. Again..I'm not saying that Carthage would've beaten WOS last season. They probably wouldn't have. But Carthage winning the D1 title is a heck of a lot more impressive in my opinion just because of the way it had to be done. D1 was so much deeper than D2 it isn't even funny.

Anyone have video of the play vs EC that led to all of the free throws? I'm not a fan of complaining about bad calls...and I certainly can't stand when a ref is blamed for a loss. But this kind of has me intrigued. I would like to see the call and develop my own opinion. By the way...is anyone really expecting quality officials to show up in Hardin, Tx to call a 3A basketball game? smh...

Ozen basketball coach placed on administrative leave
oldschool2 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Hey you know what's good about working in Beaumont schools?.. Yeah I couldn't think of anything either. -
I literally just laughed out loud. "cultivate douchebaggery".. lol. What a clown

And that very well may be the case. Only other options are to hire an AD first or put together a hiring committee of sorts to recommend to the sup. Either way there has to be some type of policy in place for situations such as this. And that policy needs to be followed...regardless of trust issues. I doubt anyone thought the AD and Head Coach would be bailing at the same time, but there has to be a "what if" on paper somewhere.
