bleedblue reacted to Hoopster-007 in Bryan Rudder 78 Barbers Hill 77/Final
Bronco/Cat Fan, I agree "Rudder shot lights out and played a good overall game." There were a couple of scoring "turnarounds" that really hurt Barbers Hill, particularly when BH's post player (Charli) was substituted out the game. Personally, I thought the Rudder game was one of Charli's best games, along with several other BH players who stepped up and made big shots.
This young team had an awesome season and I am really proud of them. As a fan/parent, I would probably be content with our play against Rudder; however, as someone who knows better, our defensive play over the last several years continues to hurt us in big games. Rudder is a very good team, played good overall basketball; and once again defeated a BH team that I personally believe should not have lost.
Great season Lady Eagles. You guys had an awesome season!!!!

After all of that state championship talk last year, you would think that Code Red would have learned about counting your chickens before the eggs hatch. Apparently not.

If I do recall BH played a dang good 1st half against code red this year. They were with in striking distance at half time. But Code Red had coaching adjustments made during half time. BH didnt and their lack of horses got run out the stadium. I do believe they will have to coaches to make those adjustments and keep it closer but will still lack the horses to run the whole game with Code Red.

When I say BH will compete, I'm not saying we will win a DC, but we will compete for a playoff berth. My goodness, we are good with competing for a playoff spot, we'll let ya'll beat your chest on DC. That's why we play the games, anything can happen and you can break it down for yourself, we'll just try hard and see where we land at the end of the season. Good luck to all in the off season (that's where it starts).

"Most of my knowledge and experience is on the girls side where we have competed from day one."
Hoopster - I would say 'moderate' success prior to Rivers in the early 80s!
"Many many years ago when my friends and I played football, we loved the game and it didn't matter who was the coach or how lavish the facilities or equipment; we played."
And this is how I was raised. (played bball all summer in a NON A/C GYM in the old HS (now MSN) Our parents parenting style is long gone.
I still think we are headed in the right direction - said with fingers crossed!

you guys realize that the only ones that will suffer are the kids who had nothing to do with it. It was wrong, but why is it the kids have to pay for what some adults decided to do?

We have a large hispanic population. Our African American population is rising, but not to your liking. Property taxes are among the lowest in the Houston area. Academics is what gets most kids moving here no matter their color. You spew so many false things about BH. I didn't grow up here. But it's home now and we've been treated great. There's more move ins than people that are home grown. Good luck with your hate towards BH.
BH
73% white
21% hispanic
3% African American
3% other
You do realize Crosby is only 12% African American?

Bleedblue, I hope you are right. I guess this old man still has a lot of ole school left in him which may be one reason I am having difficulty seeing "the vision." Most of my knowledge and experience is on the girls side where we have competed from day one. Unfortunately, we have not competed as well on the boys' side.
So, new coach....new facility...returning players? Many many years ago when my friends and I played football, we loved the game and it didn't matter who was the coach or how lavish the facilities or equipment; we played. Back in the day, we didn't have the best facilities or weight room, but we were consumed with getting bigger, faster, and stronger. During summers, we had cement weights inside the burgundy plastic...some of which were taped with gray tape to stop the cement from falling out. But we lift weights at least 3 times a week, rotating to each other's garage, and by our Jr. year we were benching 300 lbs+.
While I do acknowledge great coaching is a start, I have to admit that I am having difficulty visualizing quality players west of us passing up North Shore, etc., and those east of us leaving the Beaumont area to come to BH to play football.
Returning players? I played junior high and/or freshmen football with multiple good athletes who quit football and decided to come back to play varsity their 11th/12th grade year. No doubt, the time away from the game negatively impacted their play.
And, even with great coaching, great facilities, all the quality move-ins to BH, there has been and continues to be, certain folk who have become cynical; and truly believe "the politics" - not only to be disheartening - but a barrier that may have contributed to the mediocrity on the boys' side.

I know coach has been working one on one with the QB's. There are quite a few playing this year that didn't play last year. The big question mark is who is going to emerge as the varsity QB next year. We'll be fine, I don't know about a DC, but there are some kids in our program that will keep BH competitive and hopefully grabbing a playoff spot. As a fan and parent of a kid in the program, I'm just looking forward to a new direction and excited to see what we can do. The rest will fall into place. Spring football will help the coaches gauge what they have to work with and go from there.

BH reported 1527 for this re-alignment. 6A is 2150 and up now. It will be interesting to watch. I can't imagine moving up at the 2018 shift but who knows.
I think 2-4 years is more accurate for BH to compete hard - but the foundation is being laid. I've heard that a few true athletes that had left the program are back in with the coaching changes. That will help.
