1. First of all there is no way Gillespie would come here.  I would bet money that he is going to get serious consideration from at least Uh and likely Texas Tech this offseason.  I love Lamar but to think that a guy like Gillespie would pick the Cardinals over either of these teams (or maybe Oregon) is nonsensical. Bob MArlin - I don't see why he would leave Sam to come here.  Not a step up and he has been consistently successful in this conference and has not had opportunity to move up yet. Penders intrigues me because he is getting fired (most likely) from a CUSA job and will likely have to take a step down, and he is known for quick turnarounds.  However, what if he wants to take some time away. I say go after an assistant at a fairly predominant BCS conference program and see what interest there is. I might even talk to some retreads - a guy like Quinn Snyder or James Dickey.
2. Dog - You took my number -that is exactly what I was thinking.  Since you have 80 wins taken - I'll just go up one and predict them as completely mediocre. 81-81.
3. I'd be in - anything to make the season more interesting as the Astros likely won't be.
4. The administration in the early part of the 90s was bad, but Dr. Cottle came in and cleaned up a lot of the financial mess and set up a foundation that Dr. Simmons has done an excellent job of building on.
5. I too hated the move from the Sunbelt.  But I was privy to some information during that time and we really had no other choice.  The institution as a whole was in a financial crisis and everything that could be done was being done to keep the programs alive financially.  Due to some great work by the administration that was in place at that time, we are able to see the great things that are happening with the athletic program and the University as a whole.
6. Greatest rivalry in college basketball, and it doesn't matter that UNC is having a substandard year - this game will be awesome.
7. I agree with Terror - go out and schedule somebody Gilligan.  When you beat up on stepsisters at the beginning of the year, you don't know how to react when you get into conference play and get slapped in the mouth.  If you want to be respected go play somebody - anywhere.  IF UT won't come to your place - go to their place and beat them.  Same for Aggie and LSU.  I for one am ready to see Gilligan retire.
8. Is it about time for Gilligan to go?
9. Still contemplating whether to drive over from Humble for that morning.
10. That is not true.  There was no testing for steroids before 2002, but you can't superced state and federal law just because you are a baseball player.  If taking something is illegal it doesn't make it right to take it just because you want to be a better baseball player.  MLB has had a banned substances list for many years, but there just never was testing.  And the players themselves - through the union - are just as much to blame for this whole fiasco.
11.

It says his dad retired. I heard that Tuberville wasn't planning on hiring his own staff, so I'm thinking Carlos Mainord asked Tuberville to hire his son.  I bet it's a nice raise from the $60K or so he was making at LU.
I heard that also but he fired DC Ruffin McNeil and got a new OC as well. Not sure if the original OC left because of the Leach situation, but he's retained a couple assistants and let go a few also.
After Tubberville brought on a new DC, there was no place for Ruffin - he likely wasn't going to take a demotion.  There was no offensive coordinator.  Leach was the offensive coordinator.  For the Alamo Bowl, Lincoln Riley assumed those duties, but he was the WRs coach.
12. Look at it this way: From 1900 until 1994 - the strike year - there were two players that hit 60 hormeruns in a season (Ruth and Maris once).  From 1995 through 2003 there have been six players that hit 60 homeruns (Bonds, McGwire twice, and Sosa three times).  Since that time (when the league started testing), there have been zero 60 homerun seasons. You can't tell me that it doesn't help.  IF you're stronger you get the bat through the hitting zone faster, not only giving you more pop, but also giving you just a few milliseconds more to determine where the pitch is.  I know these guys are tremendous baseball players already, and you and I taking steroids really wouldn't improve our game, but for these guys - that 1/100 of a second can mean the difference between a deep fly to left center and a homerun over the left field wall.
13. I remember McGwire getting slammed pretty good following the congressional hearings. I also remember him getting slammed pretty good after a reporter discovered Andro in his locker - which at the time was not a banned substance or illegal.  I also recall Clemens getting slammed pretty good as well after the debacle that was his congressional testimony.  All of the players that have been linked to it have been hit pretty hard by the media, the fans and baseball itself.  Bonds and Clemens just continue to vehementl deny it - likely to their detriment.
14. Terror I had to smite you for that - not the Roc comment but calling it Lamar Beaumont. As you know- a pet peeve of mine.
15.

Let the kids play and mature.  Get more good looking kids and play them.  Let them play their way into a major league position like other teams have done.  Stop trading away our future.  Bring back Hunsucker and Garner.
Good post Pirates. I especially like the part of bringing back Hunsicker and Garner. It won't happen though. McLane and Wade aren't baseball men like Hunsicker and Garner. I expect them to make piddling deals that wont bear fruit. I hate to be so pessimistic about the 'stros, but as I've said before, I've been a fan a long time. I've been disappointed WAY too many times. For the 'stros to become contenders, McLane would have to hire a GM that knows the game and then keep his hands out of it. I'm afraid that neither will happen. So we get more of the same...
That is this team's biggest problem.  McLane is too much like Jerry Jones.  GIve Ed Wade the reigns and see what he can do through the draft.  All those guys that play for the Phillies and played in the last two World Series were drafted under Ed Wade.  Give the man a chance.
16. They cannot close - which is pretty typical of a young team.  Hopefully, they can mature and get better as the season progresses.
17. Big upset win by the Red Raiders over the Huskies.  Tech is 8-0 currently with a win over a top ten team.  Still don't know how good this team is, but shows they are capable.
18. Glad to have you back on the boards Terror!  Hope you and yours are well. By the way - you should apply.
19. Terrible news.  Terror - wishing you and your family peace through this difficult time.
20. Who was accused and what were they accused of?
21. In my opinion, the Twins are one of, if not the best run organizations in the league. Small market team yet they are always competitive. They really invest in their minor league system and get a lot of bang for their buck. Uncle Drayton should take notes.
22. The thing is - I don't have a problem with Drayton the owner. He has shown a willingness to go after players when the team is in the hunt - Beltran, Johnson, to name a few. However, he needs to stay out of the baseball operations and let his baseball men do their jobs. You can't tell me that Ed Wade really wanted to sign Moehller to an extension, but Drayton has likely handcuffed him. Bottom line is this team is several drafts away from being a legitimate year in and out contender as they were in the late 90s and early 00s.
23. All is well fellas - The Astros just signed a one year extension for that juggernaut of a starting pitcher - Brian Moehller!
