And yes he has brought in some good talent and better talent than others recruited to LU before him.......that should translate to more winning also, and that is not happening!!!!!!  So only one thing to blame.............the coach!!!!!
He's Grey Giovanne reincarnated.
2. I'll say the same thing I said on the Ford thread - I don't wish the kid well.  I don't care if he grew up on the same street as me.  If he chooses to go somewhere other than Lamar (or Tech) then I don't wish him well.  And I don't think that Ben Jones really cares one way or the other whether or not I wish him well.  If he did he would have asked me where I thought he should go.  He's not a local kid anymore since he's not going to the local school.  He is now a resident of Louisiana, which in and of itself lowers his IQ by one standard deviation, and a player for the rival university. Therefore, I wish Jones individual success on a crappy McNeese team.  When they play Lamar I hope that Billy Chavis (after a switch to defense) lights him up on every play.
yup.  Texas would be favored over Duke right now, though.  Texas is peaking, Duke is falling off a bit.
Right now - yes.  If Kyrie Irving gets back - no.
4. Who has ever suggested that recruits are picking, or even should be picking LU over USC?
5.

Personally, I do not wish the young man well - he is now the enemy.  And I don't think he really cares whether or not I wish him well.  If he did he would have contacted me to get my opinion as to where I thought he should continue his education.  Why do we have to wish local athletes well when they go to a school you are not a fan of.  I want SFA to go 0-11 every year in football and win two games a year in basketball (the two games they play against Sam).  Me wishing Ford well is essentially wishing SFA well - and I refuse to do that. Now I don't wish him ill - but I certainly don't hope that he excels, and in turn, SFA excels.  Maybe I can hope that plays really well and SFA just sucks.  Do you see the paradox in that?
I see you are in for a lot of disappointment the next few years, SFA wise.  :D
You never know - who would have thought that UT would have such a terrible year coming off a National Championhip game appearance?

7. What?  You do realize he brought in Paul, Johnson, the new 3 star OL Campbell and several others in this class.  You can't get them all and Woodard has done a good job.
8.
Lots of good coaches out there. I think we could possibly get Quinn Snyder, he is coaching the Austin Torros NBDL team.
I like Snyder (I am a Duke fan) and would make that call - but I don't see it happening.  His first head gig wat at Mizzou - as much as it pains me to say it, LU would be quite a step down.  Plus, he is coaching - probably at a competitive salary.  If we do go to the WAC, both he and Gillespie will be stronger options, but not in the Southland. And I see BCG getting the Tech job, if the brass in Lubbock has the stones to part ways with Lil' Knight.
9. That's been my assumption from the beginning of the season - at least with respect to D-I opponents.
10.
Do any of you guys remember why LU wound up back in the Southland?  With no football, Rex Cottle wanted to try to save Grey Giovanni's job as basketball coach back in the mid 90's, so he proposed the move to the Southland and put the carrot out that LU could bring football back under the IAA/FCS conference.  The real skinny on that is that he had no intention of really bringing football back, just saving Grey.  He departs and in steps Dr. Simmons who really did want to bring FB back and everyone probably knows the rest of the story.  Being in the Southland helped get football back, but if LU can make the move to FBS, then I am on board for exactly the same reason as Green Menace articulated how he felt about UNT.
I have to disagree with you North - the move to the Southland was not about saving Giovanne's job - but a financial necessity at the time.  When Cottle came in Lamar was just about broke and had to tighten the purse strings and get their financial house in order.  A lot of the work that Cottle did established a solid base for what Dr. Simmons has been able to accomplish.
11.
If you can't be a good 1-AA, then what makes you think you'll be a decent/good 1-A? I don't exectly remember the WAC burning up the airways during the regular season. As far as worse schedules go..have you taken the time to look at the schedules of ULl or ULM or UNT? They HAVE to play 2 or 3 body bag games EVERY year for finances. So to answer your question, I'd much rather be McNeese State University and have respect in the 1-AA ranks, win conference championships, make the play-offs, than be laughed at & the butt of jokes just so I can say my school is 1-A. That's the exact mentality that has put ULL in their spot. Do you really want Lamar to follow that model? I think not.
Kat Killer there are success stories of teams moving from now FCS to FBS.  Boise was FCS, UConn was FCS, and I'm sure there are others.  You can build a program.  If you choose to look at the worst case scenario all the time, you never make any growth or progress.  Could we make the jump and it not work out - definitely.  However, I want the best for my university and choose to believe that those in power over there on Rolfe Christopher do as well - and have the wherewithall to make it happen.  If the WAC calls - I say jump.
12. Totally agree - but they lack a point guard.  Kyrie Irving made this team elite and dominant.  With Irving on the floor - no way they lose to Florida State.  I still think they are the favorites to win the tourney as there really aren't any dominant big men in the college game right now.
13. I predict that Lamar has a lead at the half - but Ark State makes some adjustment at the half that Roc has absolutely no answer for and the Cards dwindle their lead and lose in the last two minutes.
14. I love Duke!  Have since I was about 10 years old.  They are definitely beatable though.  No real big man and the floor leader Kyrie Irving may just be done for the year.
15. I am a proud LU alum - and only want the best for our once proud basketball program - but honestly, why would Gillespie want to come here?  There is virtually no exposure in the Southland Conference.  The best coach in the Souhtland left for a job in the Sun Belt!  There are going to be jobs - higer profile than Lamar's - open after this season.  I know he wants to coach in Texas, but . . . probably not at Lamar. I would definitely call him, but I wouldn't put a lot of eggs in that basket.
16. This season the WAC had 24 games that aired on free television (ESPN or other cable network), not counting bowl games, plus an additional 27 games that were on some pay subscription.  how many did the Souhtland have?
17. My point was that airfare is not much more expensive.  Add in the additional revenue from being in a more television relevant conference, and the travel expense is a wash.
18. When we were in the Sun Belt we travelled to Jacksonville, Florida, Western Kentucky and South Alabama - I know that's not quite as far, but you aren't talking about a lot more mileage or airfare.
19. Idaho is the Vandals.  Mark Schlereth was a Vandal. New Mexico State is the Aggies.  Nothing I like better than beating Aggies. I don't recall the mascot for Denver.  But quick - name the mascots for Webber International, Oklahoma Panhandle State and Langston?
