1. It isn't too late?  What planet are you on spanky?  Thye are 36-53; 17 games below .500.  If they want to win 85 and have any shot at the wild card they have to finish the season 49-24.  They have to play .671 baseball.  What about this team says they are capable of playing .671 baseball for a stretch of 73 games? This was a PR move by Drayton - that's all.  What happens when the bats don't imporve and they have to fire Bagwell?  Ther's a bridge burned.  It is time to aggressively market guys like Osealt, Berkman, Myers, Lindstrom and maybe even Keppinger to get as many young prospects as they can and start building for 2012 or 2013.
2. Signing with the Heat is tantamount to an admission that he can't get it done on his own.
3. Like baseball25 I think it it about time for Gilligan to step aside, but I thank and respect him for his many years of service and success at this university.  This is a simple and deserved tribute to an important member of the Lamar family.
4. shouldn't - they will still have to play nonconference games.
5. Boise State leaves the WAC and heads to Mountain West.  WAC commissioner has said there are 5 or 6 FCS teams that he is interested in as replacement.  The windows to playing football with the big boys are getting ready to start opening, and I hope that Tubbs and Simmons are paying attention.
6. cssports.com has online watching for the majority of the games today for free. [Hidden Content]
7.
It's too bad that some LU alums (Chris Rucker) cannot just live in the moment and enjoy the success of the their alma mater.  If you will just enjoy the present and not worry about the future then there is nothing to stress/worry about and you really can enjoy the team's success.  There are like some 200 teams that play D1 Baseball and only one gets to end their season in a victory during the post season.  So enjoy the ride and see how far it goes.  That's why I feel sorry for UT football fans.  I mean your win 10 games during the regular season and it's just an alright season.  Yea, it's great to have that much continued success but you take it for granted and you can't even enjoy a win, it has to be something more.  As a former college athlete that's sad because I know how hard the players and coaching staffs prepare for each game, and how a lot of times the separation in talent is a lot narrower than the fans realize. As for anyone else, especially baseball25, Texas St. had a tremendous non-conference schedule; where are they playing this weekend?  UT-Arlington had a tremendous non-conference schedule; where are they playing this weekend?  I mean it makes perfect sense to me, I would much rather say "Hey we played a tough non-conference schedule!" than say, "Hey, we're the lone representatives from the SLC and get to play in the NCAA tournament with a shot of winning CWS!"   Maybe, just maybe Gilligan knew what he was doing.  Maybe he knew that the league was a one-bid league this season or that he would be starting 8 new guys.  And by the way, I think this team is one season ahead of schedule.  Sign a couple of good arms and next season they would win 35-38 regular season games.
I am living in the moment - I said I was excited for the team and hope they do well and advance in the regionals.  I support every Lamar team - as a faithful alum.  But as an interested fan, and an alumnus, I believe I have the right to voice my opinion on the state of the program, and that's what I have done.  Now back to work.
8. Never liked him but always respected him as a great player, and likely the greatest player of this era.  He will be missed as people start debating what his numbers could have been without all the injuries.
9. I don't have a problem if they draft a catcher because often times a catcher becomes something else in the minor leagues.  OFten times catchers are the smartest players out on the field and they translate well to third base or first base or even outfielders if they are athletic enough.  In the basebal draft it is often about taking the best player available since you won't see this kid on the big club for 2 - 4 years.
10. Sam ent to Regionals three years in a row - it is not a fireable offense to have a down year after that.  However, if it takes Sam 6 or 7 more years to get back - you better beleive that Coach Johnson will be on the hot seat.
11. I still think he should go.  It's great that the team got hot and won four in a row in the conference tournament, and I hope they continue to remain hot in the regionals.  But the fact of the matter is this team finished 7th in the Southland Conference.  These have not been the glory days of Lamar baseball that Gilligan is used to.  It doesn't matter because Tubbs won't fire him and Tubbs is here for a few more years at least.
12. They have three picks in the first 39 overall and 5 of the first 90.
13. The hitting coach is not the problem on this team.  It may actually be a problem, but it is way down the list of things that are wrong with this club.  I have said it for several years now, but Timmy P destroyed this club.  He had a lot of help from Drayton, but it is the general manager's job to run the club and Timmy P was essentially a yes man.  The farm system is the worst in the league, and the big league club is devoid of actual major league talent outside of three or four players in the current lineup.  Ed Wade is known for his ability to stock a farm system.  Look at what he did in Philly.  The core of that team that has been the NL representative in the Word Series the last two years was built by Ed Wade.  He drafted Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Shane Victorino, Cole Hamels, Jimmy Rollins and several other players on that team. I say we give Wade a chance to build the system, but there is no quick fix to get this team back to the top of the NL Central standings.
14. I was kind of disappointed.  Going into Sunday he was within 3 strokes of the lead.  But two early bogeys and he got zero face time from NBC.
15. I don't see Tubbs ever running Gilligan off - but how much longer is Tubbs going to be AD?  He's not young, by any means, and has seen football off the ground.  I don't think Tubbs stays very much longer.
16. sb1 - Do you have some sort of aversion to calling the school by it's actual name?  Every time you ask this question, you continuaaly call it Lamar Beaumont - it's demeaning.  The name of the school is Lamar University.  Period. Again, a pet peeve of mine.
17. Shly - That is a conference mandate - the sitting behind the bench ban that is. As far as the alma mater and the fight song - I learned them both my first semester at Lamar in Coach Payton's health class. Lamar to thee we're singing, Voices raised on high.  We will forever love thee, laud thee to the sky.  We will ever need thee as our guiding star.  To us you'll always be our glorious Lamar! Fight Lamar U Cardinals, fight alma mater fight.  Glory in the triumph of the red and the white.  Faithful to our colors, we will ever be, fighting ever fighting for Lamar U victory.  B-I-G R-E-D, Big Red!  Big Red!  Go Big Red.  (Repeat) Sang them at every home basketball game from 1994 through 2001 until I moved to Lubbock for grad school. Good times!
18. I think Dallas Baptist is a better job right now than Lamar.
19. It was a great game - very physical.  I thought the refs did a pretty good job in that they set a tone early on that they were going to allow some physical play - especially around the basket - and they stuck with that tone. Butler is very impressive -especially on defense - and I hope that the Hayward kid stays and they get a good run again next year. But tonight all is right with the world as the Duke Blue Devils are National Champions!
20. This is an indictment on the UH program.  The fact that Floyd went elsewhere and Marlin pulled out early indicate where UH stands in the line of D1 basketball programs.  I wish coach Dickey the best but I see several more seasons of mediocrity in the future.  And I know mediocrity - I am a Lamar fan!
21. Neither team was impressive.  This is not a typical Rice team and Lamar just had nothing against them.
22. are you guys watching it on espn 2 or the alternate channel.  I am in Humble and they are showing the friggin Sooners over here and I cant get my espn2 alternate channel to work on directv.
23. I would love to toot Tech's horn on this one, but Seton Hall was without their best player, their best (and the conference's best) rebounder was ejected early, and their second leading scorer was wearing a splint on his shooting hand.  Tech played very well though.  That was the best I had seen their offense execute all season.
