  1. My senior year we got an invite to the Kerrville Basketball Festival. At the time, it was a big deal because that was THE holiday tournament in the state and basically only invited ranked teams. I remember sitting in the stands at Tivy HS when the biggest kid is ever seen walked in, with a clock on a chain around his neck ala Flavor Flav. It almost looked like a regular medallion on him. That was Shaq and SA Cole was in our division. Prior to the internet, we had no idea who he was before then. They smoked everyone, including our rival Edgewood (who would go on to win state in 2A that year) in the Finals. And the person was right, it was Shaq and just some other dudes. The Chuckwu kid is a nice player. He is not in the same hemisphere Shaq was in HS. But then again, not many ever have been.
  2. He’s in the middle of the ultimate fight and needs some major heavenly intervention at this point.
  3. This is definitely true. This is the biggest problem I have with the way Yates plays. They always have superior athletes and it usually gets them pretty deep. But when they run into a team with an elite guard or two, it’s crispy toast.
  4. Very diplomatic no-look. We need to be kind to Hagar as he is approaching “super senior” status.
  5. Love and prayers for stevenash. I hope this stays up. The more prayers going up for him the better.
  6. I loved the reply too. Do we really need to include “animal” in the above sentence? (And this absolutely falls under the “takes one to know one” category...)
  7. What in the ❄️ does it matter who I root for? Many times I root for a school that has a particular kid on it, sometimes it’s geographically, sometimes because I’m rooting for karma due to a BS vote. Maybe next time adults will think twice about taking a year away from a kid. Regardless, I guess “cool” is in the eye of the beholder. I wasn’t going to say anything else on this matter, as it has been discussed ad nauseum, but like Michael Corleone, I keep getting dragged back in. But for the record, if you don’t think some HJ fans root for non-southeast Texas teams against Silsbee (and vice versa), you would be mistaken. Is it cool? My thoughts are who cares - it’s their prerogative. For what it’s worth, I have known one of your assistants (maybe your only assistant) for much of her life so Huffman is my absolute favorite cross country team in the state. That is the 100 percent truth. As for Hoops, go Tigers! Jump on that gas early and keep the pedal down.
  8. I would say you took a lot of good from your time with him. Pretty amazing how formidable that little school was in basketball and baseball. The joke was always, at least they don’t play football!
  9. I have found that “coachable” kids is often times directly related to the coach. Kids who were deemed to be difficult, are all of a sudden very coachable with the right coach. When they have great respect for their coach, there isn’t much they wouldn’t do for him or her.
  10. I’m rarely surprised by how well his teams performed. But this team had no business being two games from “State.” Like BSWildcats said in another thread, this run would not have been surprising next year. This year was a bit of a shocker. But then again, Foster ALWAYS gets the most out of his team. Credit those kids for always “buying in” as well.
  11. He is as good a man as he is a coach. I hate making comparisons between the great ones but I will just say he is as good as any I’ve seen.
  12. Very solid. I don’t think he’s better (or even as good) as the big from Foster though.
  13. Conference tournament. It has been a challenging year to say the least. He could probably help himself by putting a half dozen NAIA schools on the schedule (like a conference rival) instead of playing U of H, Air Force, Tulane, Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss, etc. But it is a young team with almost everyone coming back that has improved greatly over the course of the season.
  14. Obviously they didn’t play 24 games last week. It’s a weekly award, recognizing coaching going into postseason.
  15. Not a seasonal award. But obviously has his team playing their best basketball of the season going into March.
  16. My eyes were sweating some too. Thanks @baddogfor sharing.
  17. Year after actually. They were still plenty good with TJ after Grayland left.
  18. Let’s go Bobcats! Seventh schmeventh! They haven’t played any horsemen yet! (bullets and AAW are probably right but I still believe Bobcats)
