Hamshire-Fannett 72 Silsbee 65/FINAL
TxHoops replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
You know, I don’t know when that started being “permitted”. But it’s more prevalent now than I remember it being 10, 20, or 30 years ago. Some refs don’t tolerate it. But I’ve noticed most let it slide or just continue giving warnings. -
I think they have their answer...

And let’s just be clear, Rideaux would make most teams in this area better. He can be polarizing when it comes to other team’s fans, but I can tell you he can flat out coach. (And it’s little known that’s he pretty darn good coaching on the gridiron as well). He’s a passionate guy so some will not like when his emotions get the best of him. But he’s as real as real can be. What makes him elite when it comes to coaching though is a couple of things. He is exceptionally bright and works his tail off with preparation, and he is outstanding with the Xs and Os. But when I tell you he cares for his kids, that is a drastic understatement. I mean he cares for his kids to the point he will do anything in his power to help them, while they play for him or 10 years down the road. And kids aren’t dumb. They know when someone loves them unconditionally. Those kids love him in return and will give him everything they’ve got. Those of us that have known him knew whoever eventually gave him his first head gig was going to get even more than they realized. And those who he worked for before this year will tell you how special he is. Coach Mitchell at Lumberton has done an amazing job there. And he might be the biggest Coach Rideaux fan. -

Exactly what I thought. Expected a split between those two (and might still happen). -

Can we revisit the ridicule that was received when some on this site poked fun when others said HF basketball was hiring a “game changer”? I’ll hang up and listen. Oh and congrats to Coach Rideaux and the Horns! Huge, huge win. -
Update on Doakes and Jack Yates

Yates should be the best team in 4A, with or without Doakes. They have the best roster anyway. -

Had a pretty reliable source at the men’s game. They announced it was a sellout. Also told it was “mostly full.” They sell more season tickets and have a little less than half the capacity of the Montagne.

That new McNeese facility is something else. Rockets hold their training camps there and their training stuff is state of the art. And apparently the game tonight was a sellout.

Kountze Lion Basketball is Back!!
TxHoops replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
One of those Silsbee teams was legitimately over 10 deep. It was unreal. To have a team that deep at 4A level was really unbelievable. 04 Kountze was deep. Not that deep. But at a certain point you are deep “enough” and not arguing both teams were at that point. -

Silsbee’s best team would be favored over any of those Kountze teams in my opinion. Could Kountze have won? Of course. Both teams playing at their best? Silsbee better and deeper. Just my opinion. HJ’s best team under Breithaupt is also a better matchup with that Silsbee team. That’s the game I would pay to see. -

Wait, I thought you were a Kountze hater?!? -
Been really unlucky in some losses as well. They are capable of playing with anyone. Scrappy, well coached team who can shoot the mess out of the ball. Really enjoyed the couple of times I’ve been able to see them.

I am 99.9% sure you are both guys. Dear Lord, I at least hope so...

Little Cypress-Mauriceville 38 Hamshire-Fannett 34/FINAL
TxHoops replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
There are other coaches in the district, and close proximity of the school who have benefitted from “transfers” for YEARS. And ultimately it’s not the coaches, it’s parents, who make those decisions. And I’m not justifying it, or calling it right or wrong. It’s simply nothing new. What is new is that it’s a new coach at a new school. I’m merely saying that many who are pointing fingers have 4 pointing back at themselves. You know, glass houses and all.... -

Careful. You want to talk about transfers, HF certainly didn’t invent that concept. In fact, several of the juggernauts in this area of feasted on transfers for a long time. Can’t help but think some of the outrage about HF is that they have dipped their fingers in the talent pool that was monopolized by other for some time now. And no, I’m not getting into the particular schools or the particular players. But believe me it’s nothing new in these parts. -
There are some really well-coached teams in that district. In fact, there are no weak coaches in that district. But I don’t think I’ve ever watched BC or Lumberton play under their current coaches and not come away impressed with how well they were prepared and coached. By the way, excellent post. Please continue to post in this forum.

BC with two tough losses this week. Could easily be 2-0. Conversely, LCM with two big wins that could have gone either way. These teams are so closely matched. Poor coaches are going to age a couple of years or more during this season.

Silsbee 68 Hardin-Jefferson 65/FINAL
TxHoops replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Don’t get it twisted. Yates is better in the backcourt as well. Granted, Bush might be the best player on the floor in that matchup but after that, it’s several Lions before you get to the next Tiger. Back to the game, sounds like it was a classic. Exactly what that matchup deserves. -

Rivalry and Silsbee basketball. Silsbee basketball may only be surpassed by WOS football in terms of thread posts. -

Warren to Ban New Home Construction if Elected
TxHoops replied to PhatMack19's topic in Political Forum
I still like to think of myself as an independent thinker. I’m not a fan of politicians in general, which I think applies to a lot, if not most Americans. So when one actually tells us what he is thinking, whether I agree or disagree with his thoughts, I certainly appreciate it. The fact that “speaking one’s mind” freely and openly has been taken as taboo by a lot in Washington tells me everything I need to know about Washington. And while I think it might benefit him to mute himself on some of his thoughts, it’s just kind of who he is.
