UIL on shot clock usage
Texas Hooper replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I agree with you on the 90% 10% thing, but I do think most argue against it because the think of the 24 second clock. That IS for ELITE players. But watching it in other states and college a 35-40 second clock won't change the game much but will stop the holding of the ball at the end of games like you stated. Many coaches got away from emphasizing free throw shooting. -
Any varsity, jv, freshman or AAU teams participating in the SBG basketball tournament this weekend at Lamar University? I know the Pre TABC that was in PA had 6 good teams

How did payton jones do at TABC?

UIL on shot clock usage

Dont understand if its such a big push back. Those same "great" coaches will have a strategy for a shot clock also. I know when I played with one in college our coach had his strategy for making offenses get under 12 seconds on the shot clock. We even had a play where when the clock got to 10 seconds we automictically shifted into a box and one on whomever had the ball. Great coaches will always thrive by exploiting rules. -

They do it in football dont they. They have a play clock keeper at all levels. At most you raise the door ticket $1. -
I agree. I love that it also gives kids a chance to play in front of so many college coaches. TABC is probably right behind EYBL Peach Jam with coaches. I know there don't show at the state tourney due to being the same time at college conference tournaments. I'm sure if UIL can find a way to fatten their pockets they would make accommodations for a TABC midseason. Its very unique showcase that has overtaken summer AAU that weekend.

After seeing the excitement surrounding the TABC tournament, do you guys ever think there could be a midseason showcase around Thanksgiving or Christmas? You could have the same 3 game format and have a better look at teams to compare and create some bigtime matchups. You could pair up top 10 matchups that could lead to rematches in the state finals. Imagine if we would have gotten Westbrook vs Birdville last year or BU vs Duncanville or Onalaska vs Paradise. Is this even possible?

What did you guys see in the Silsbee Tigers this weekend. They went 0-3 but look VERY YOUNG. Looks like they had about 4 incoming freshmen on the trip. I did like what I saw in the 2030 incoming freshman Brewer. Looked fundamentally sound and very defensive minded picking up 84-94 feet on many possessions. They seemed to struggle rebounding and matching up in transition defense but I'm sure with their coach can correct that with the speed they have.

Beaumont West Brook went 2-1 at TABC. What are you guys thoughts. They looked very long on the clips I saw. Stewart 6'7, Moten 6'7 and Callahan 6'8 Didnt seem to dominate the paint area with any blocks or rebounds as I expected from that size but all three seemed to have the ability to really score it. Who will be the 3pt threats to stretch the floor, or will they be more old school with back to the basket scoring?
-
I was able to see some of BU games on a few Lives. Looks like they were missing 2 starters in King Campbell and Ontario Williams 6'8. Combine that with the loss of Jones and Moore moving to Prep schools and losing SRs in Tillman and McCreary they look better than expected. The struggled shooting the 3 but looked composed and fast. They had 3 incoming freshman 2030 make the trip in Cayan, "Scrap" Smith and Jonah. How did they look? This district is going to be very deep this season.

Courtney (FB) vs Green (BU)
Texas Hooper replied to Texas Hooper's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Totally agree. I think Courtney will focus on Jones but doesnt everyone. If he is successful at keeping him under 15 Coleman will be needed to produce from the guard spot. -

What are you guys thoughts on the COACHING battle tonight with BU vs FB Marshall. I feel this game will be in the high 30's to low 40's. Ronnie Courney (813W-337L). David Green (863W-246L). Both has 3 rings RC(Willowridge with that TJ Ford group and Pro Vision), Green (North Shore and BU) RC has been NATIONAL coach of the year and 3x Houston area Coach of the year. Green 3x COY. Gonna be a battle on the sideline tonight.
