I’m not really sure if this has been mentioned or not, but Silsbee has a key injury to one of their star players. If the schedule is correct and Silsbee plays Vidor right out the gate, Silsbee will be in trouble. Hopefully this kid gets back before district starts...
I’m sure they have players ready to step up til he makes it back. A lot of talent on that team.

This is quite the stretch. The kid would obviously have to be enrolled in the ISD to qualify. The better point is the one made about COVID concern in a classroom, but not on a football field. That should be enough to put an end to the argument.
The entire state has to be on the same page. Some schools have already stated students will be able to virtually learn at home and still participate in sports and other activities. Classrooms are not big enough to social distance a class of 25 or more students. Especially the schools with 1500+students. Just can’t be done. If a kids school says they have to be in class learning and the neighboring district says they don’t. Then the door does open for transfers. Which can be approved d/t COVID. So the majority will probably allow it. Until school actually starts they don’t even know how many students will be able to return. This pandemic has affected these students in more ways than one. I personally don’t think it will be a football season and if it is. It won’t be the same. They may only play district. Not much excitement there. IMO.

I just can’t shake the feeling that this Tiger team will take a step back from the last 2 years due to the graduation of Martin and Taylor. I hope I’m wrong and Arline becomes that impact player that they’ll need. I think playoffs are a given, and hopefully these group of Tigers will be I’m their groove when the playoffs start.
The Tigers have some decent prospects coming to Varsity. It seems bleak because they have yet to be seen. I wouldn’t count them out. The team has speed if the focus is on their running game. Arline is not alone in the backfield. If they use their talent where they are best fit. They will be alright. I can see them making another run for it.

2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS
SILSBEE TIGERS
2019 Record: 9-5 Overall, 4-1 District
Class 4A, Division II State Semifinalist
The Silsbee Tigers had another historic season, capturing the Class 4A, Region III Championship and marking the first time in school history that the Tigers had captured a Regional championship in back to back years. With six starters on the offense and eight on defense, the Tigers appear primed to make a run at three in a row.
COACHING
Head Coach: Randy Smith
Assistant Coaches: Trent Jones (Offensive Coordinator/Assistant Head Coach), Cory Harrison (Defensive Coordinator), Dustin Westbrook (Passing Game Coordinator), David Drake (Co-Defensive Coordinator), Jarrod Morris (Special Teams Coordinator), Michael Nelson (Quarterbacks), Ronnie Lofton (Linebackers), Kyle Mackey (Secondary), Radi Verrett (Defensive Line), Keaton Baker (Defensive Line), Brett Hillen (Junior High), Michael Andrade (Junior High), James Collins (Junior High), Ira Brooks (Junior High)
OFFENSE
Six starters return to the Tiger Multiple set offense in 2020. Two year starter Raymond Foster returns to the quarterback position but look for senior Shan Gilder, Jr. to also get snaps behind center. Senior Antonius Alrine (1st team all-district) will also return along with senior fullback Quincy Kelly Jr. Sophomore fullback Jayron Williams should also see some time in the Tiger backfield. Senior wide out Rueben Hatton (2nd team all-district) will pace a receiver group that will also included Gilder, Wiliams and returning tight end Ayden Bell (2nd team all-district) and newcomer Tre' Padilla. Senior Noah Duke will lead an otherwise inexperienced line which will include senior Zach Tillman, juniors Kadin Stone, Josh Bradley and Leo Rodriguez and sophomore Jayce Jones.
DEFENSE
Eight starters return to the Silsbee 3-4 defense in 2020. Seniors Ayden Bell (1st team all-district) and Caleb Buse return to guide things on the defensive line. Kelly and Williams will man the inside linebacker positions while Gilder and senior Malik Jones will control things outside with Stone also seeing action at outside linebackers. Hatton (1st team all-district), at safety, and Arline, at cornerback, will guide an otherwise young secondary which will see contributions from senior safety Jason Cochran, and sophomores Max Brisbane, Kevin Martin and Geremiah Jackson.
SPECIAL TEAMS
All district kicker/punter Diego Gonzalez returns to do the kicking and the punting.

He will be a JR.

I like what Silsbee has coming back. I expect Gilder and a few others to lock down the WR spots. Arline and Jones will have the backfield solid. Foster the QB seems to have trimmed up a bit and looks stronger. Early game..Silsbee wins 33-28.
Dodd Should see some of that backfield action.

Nope. He was instructing the players which is a no no. Have to be an employee of the district in order to "coach" students.
The violation, according to the UIL Constitution, is for using a coach on staff that wasn’t a full-time employee of the district. -

I was told there will be three freshman QB next year that might be better than all. It was also said , this might be one of the best , if not the best classes ever, from speed to size? That means with that good class of this year freshman at WOS, these two will be knocking heads for years to come. We should have a lot of good Football to keep up with.
One things for sure Silsbee has a lot of talent coming up. Question is will they use it. Although JV didn’t look to promising. There are some freshman that hang with the best of them. Chris Martins cousin got speed. He is just a freshman.

If briscoe wasn't "competition" then Gilder won't be.
You don’t know Gilder. Which a lot don’t because he sat out playing football his freshman and sophomore year. But he is a true QB. He was those guys QB in jr high. He will bring more to the team than you think. He’s someone that can run and throw. Next season should be interesting.

Silsbee will be soild at RB with Arline and Jones (I think that's his last name). Silsbee will need to fill the roles at WR and a few on defense with Martin and Taylor graduating. I see a 5-5 regular season and maybe 3 round playoff run depending where Carthage is place Region 2 or 3. I expect Foster to comeback stronger at the QB position. I'd love to see him run the ball a bit more out of zone read.
Dodd looked promising during the playoffs. He could see a lot of touches next season. Gilder should be competition at the QB spot.

I think Silsbee has a chance to make it deep in the playoffs. They have a lot of talent. As an outsider the only problem I see with Silsbee is not utilizing the talent they have. Grade classification does not matter.
-
I think Morris from HF is the favorite on offense.

I dont recall anyone from BC ever winning or being considered in the last 28 years lmao. I think Draylon Taylor from Silsbee is a Finalist.
Andy Lara from BC is an offensive nominee and Jackson Tim’s on defense. Nominees have been announced. The finalist won’t be announced until Jan 22

Anthony Gatson is a name you will here a lot next year. RB at Newton. He is a Willie Ray Smith nominee.

Makes me no difference. Don’t take my word. I was just stating what I was told. To each it’s own.

Read the post. They took their kid over to his house. And it was not in Silsbee.
