MADRID, Spain -- Seve Ballesteros' brain tumor is cancerous and he will undergo another operation to relieve pressure caused by swelling and bleeding that have recently developed. The remaining parts of the malignant tumor, located in a very deep part of the brain, will be removed in Friday's procedure. La Paz Hospital said Thursday that the surgery is "of great complexity." Three doctors will operate on Ballesteros. Javier Heredero, head of the hospital's neurosurgery unit, will be accompanied by neurosurgeons Marcelino Perez Alvarez and Alberto Isla. The operation is due to begin early in the morning and is expected to last until the afternoon. The 51-year-old Ballesteros was in stable, but serious, condition before the operation, the hospital said. Based on an analysis of cells already moved, the tumor is classified as an oligoastrocytoma, a type that affects "cells that cover and protect the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord," the hospital said. Ballesteros was admitted to the hospital Oct. 6, and 10 days later, a sizable part of the tumor was taken out. Part of his skull was removed -- a procedure known as decompressive craniotomy -- to allow room for a swelling brain to expand. Doctors said it was not uncommon after such complex operations. Ballesteros, who won three British Opens and two Masters, briefly lost consciousness while at Madrid's international airport on Oct. 6 and was admitted to the hospital. In a personally signed statement from his hospital bed, Ballesteros said he faced the "hardest challenge of my life." Ballesteros, who won a record 50 tournaments on the European Tour, retired last year because of a long history of back pain and has since concentrated on golf course design. Ballesteros transformed European golf. After the Ryder Cup was expanded to include continental Europe in 1979, Ballesteros helped beat the United States in 1985 to begin two decades of dominance. He also captained Europe to victory in 1997 at Valderrama, Spain. Ballesteros and Jose Maria Olazabal made one of the most formidable partnerships in Ryder Cup history, with 11 wins, two losses and two halves.

how much does OU suck?
bullets13 replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
OU sucks so bad, that, even though i'm drunk, i wouldn't take it home with me. -
i went to post this, and jesusfreak had basically said the same thing but made it sound better, but here it is anyway: on the flipside, if your son were involved, you would want to know the full extent of what has happened before your child was tried and convicted through the media. there are at least 4 sides to this story, and the only one we're hearing is the girl's, and that only through her outraged father. there are a lot of people being irresponsible right now: 1) the media, for the way they're handling this 2) those who condemn the father or daughter for what allegedly happened to her. 3) those who condemn the boys without having any knowledge of this case beyond the slanted reports we're getting on the news. if you get on here and want to speculate, go speculate about an upcoming football game, not this.

OU could suck a bowling ball through a waterhose. -
OOOF! That was a stomach punch! Really. The WNBA? Really? sorry. you should know by now that i'm prone to extreme exaggeration on this site when making a point. i'd actually rather watch professional toenail clipping before i'd watch the WNBA, and that's NO exaggeration.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain apologized for "an error in judgment" on Sunday, the day after he was arrested in Nebraska on suspicion of driving under the influence, speeding and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle. "I want to apologize to the New York Yankees and the fans for an error in judgment and for putting myself in a difficult situation," Chamberlain said in a statement released by his agent, Randy Hendricks. "I intend to properly resolve this situation, and do not intend to be in such a situation again. My goal is to focus on pitching for the Yankees in the 2009 season." Yankees co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner said the team would give Chamberlain that chance to make good. "If he needs help, we'll certainly give it to him," Steinbrenner told the New York Daily News. "It happens," he said. "Everybody deserves a second chance -- or even a third chance. "He's 23 years old. He's just very lucky that nothing more serious happened. We're talking about a really good kid here, and that's what counts." Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins said Chamberlain was stopped for speeding early Saturday on U.S. 77 south of his hometown of Lincoln. Lancaster County Attorney Gary Lacey will get paperwork on the case Monday and decide what, if any, charges will be filed, Collins said. Chamberlain was driving a 2006 BMW 750i with Nebraska dealer plates when the Patrol stopped him at about 1 a.m., Collins said. The trooper smelled alcohol in the vehicle and saw an open container of alcohol on the front passenger seat, she said. Chamberlain was taken to the Cornhusker Place Detox in Lincoln, which Collins said is the normal protocol. Collins said she didn't know Chamberlain's blood-alcohol content. A message left for Chamberlain at his family's home in Lincoln was not immediately returned. Chamberlain, who grew up in Lincoln and starred for the University of Nebraska, was 4-3 with a 2.60 ERA in 42 appearances for the Yankees this year.

Whats the biggest contract you'd give Manny Ramirez?
bullets13 replied to bobcatfan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
If Manny's happy, he's hitting. he's happy playing for the dodgers, so they should definitely fork out the money to resign him, as he basically carried the dodgers into the playoffs. -
Phillies vs Rays World Series Thread
bullets13 replied to adminbaberuth's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
i don't know who to pick. i wanted each of these teams to make it, but now that they did, i really can't decide who i want to win. these teams are fairly similar, with both being able to score by producing runs and by the long ball. advantage goes to the rays with their starters, the phillies with the relievers. as for hitters, the phillies are stacked but streaky, and the rays are solid throughout (plus BJ Upton has been on FIRE). This should be a close series. Of course, the Rays could always ride the momentum of pulling it out vs. the sox. -

even though it's improbable, and they aren't listed, i'm still going to hold out hope that the rangers make an effort to get involved. -
we're mods. seriously though, it's 3 comments out of what, 30? don't worry, i'm done on this one.

Well-planned rebutal. Touche! Just wait. Central and South American players are starting to realize that the MLS is a viable option to play. It might not be followed as passionately, but there's no question about whether you're gonna get paid at the end of the month or not. Another thing that that a few of them enjoy - and this the definition of irony - is the anonimity that they get here. Juan Toja, while he was here, talked about it. Bullets, it'd be like you living at the circus. You'd be just another clown in the crowd... now i really am going to fight you. will you be watching MLS games on your polaroid TV? just messing with you. you do have a lot of good points, but i still would almost rather watch the WNBA than MLS.
-
oh, i thought this was a dallas cowboy thread.
-
meh. i'll fight you, bon.
-
no beaumont? seriously, though, i wish we'd quit adding teams and try to improve the ones we already have.

*WO-S vs. HF Updates*/'STANGS ROLL!
bullets13 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
if a game is 50-0 at the half, and ends only 66-0, the coach did a damn good job of keeping the score down. if the stangs put up 50 in the first half, just think of what they could've done to a beat up, worn down, demoralized horns team in the second half. this game could've been 120-0 if hooks had wanted. i don't know if it's true or not, but if the horns coach opted not to use the running clock, every point in the second half is on him, and he's lucky that the mustangs chose not to put up more. -
HJ, 34-20.
