Lincecum deserved this thing hands down. Can you imagine if he'd been on a good team? what's he looking at then, 25 wins? 18-5, 2.62 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 265 K's, 227 IP he started 33 games this year... of the 15 games he lost or got a ND, 9 times he allowed three or fewer runs while going 5 or more innings. Anybtime he did have a bad outing and give up 4 or 5 runs, his offense never bailed him out. How many times did Beckett or Cliff Lee allow 5 or 6 and still get a win? If he was playing for a team with a real offense, he might have gone 26-3. What an arm!

I like Dayton's chances to win their first playoff game, and that's as far as I'd go at this point. They're certainly talented enough to go all the way, but it only takes one slipup to end their season, so hopefully they'll take it one game at a time and not get caught looking down the road.

Not Looking Like the Stros Are Getting Peavy
bullets13 posted a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
The Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres continue to make progress in trade negotiations around pitcher Jake Peavy, but at the same time, San Diego is talking with the Chicago Cubs about the All-Star -- with the Padres and Chicago engaging a third team as part of their proposals. Some sources believe that a trade of Peavy, while not imminent, is inevitable, and could occur prior to Thanksgiving. The Padres are in the midst of a significant payroll cut: If San Diego -- which withdrew a contract offer to closer Trevor Hoffman on Monday night -- eventually trades both Peavy and Brian Giles, as expected, then the team's 2009 payroll will be about half of what it was in 2008. The Braves and Padres have settled on two pieces of the package that Atlanta would send to San Diego -- shortstop Yunel Escobar and outfield prospect Gorkys Hernandez. The Braves likely would include one of two young pitchers, either Charlie Morton or Jo-Jo Reyes. The two sides are at odds over the other pieces in the deal; the Padres are known to have interest in young pitcher Jeffrey Locke. The Cubs and Padres have talked about a deal built around Josh Vitters, the Cubs' top pick from 2007. But unlike the Braves, Chicago is not steeped in pitching, and so the Padres and Cubs are in the process of drawing in a third team to their talks, and that third team would be the side that would flip the pitching necessary to San Diego, in order to make the deal work for the Padres. Peavy, 27, won the 2007 Cy Young Award, and went 10-11 with a 2.85 ERA in 2008. He is signed through 2013, and currently, he has a full no-trade clause and the right to veto any proposal. The Braves and Cubs are among the teams that he would consider, as he has indicated to the Padres. During the process of considering possible deals for Peavy, the Padres have talked with numerous teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, Houston Astros and New York Yankees. -

sounds like a solid start to the season! way to go, guys! -
actually, in your first post you did. you're right about him being back next year. nobody in the district is going to look forward to facing him.

i wouldn't put to much stock in that at this point. even if he did take a shot to the knee, anybody who's played football knows that you're going to take some knocks. If his knee was already in as bad of shape as it's sounded like it was, it might not take much more than a bad cut or incidental contact to make it a lot worse.

at one point or another, there have now been over 900 people on this list, and 59 are still listed as missing. No word on what happened to the other 850. As far as I know, the highest deathtoll in any article i could find for Texas was 33. I've heard a lot of rumors, and if even 1 out of 5 of them are true, you could multiply that toll by 5 and it might still be short. This whole thing still reeks of a coverup. I've talked to a firefighter who personally found/witnessed five or more bodies being found in Orange. I never heard a word about any of those victims in the media. I guess we are also supposed to assume that even though a huge chunk of Bridge City stayed for the storm, only a single person died when most the town was underwater. Also, i guess we should assume that only 2 or 3 bodies were found in and around Crystal Beach and Gilchrest, even though hundreds stayed, and probably 90% of the homes there were destroyed. Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

I also have to give Lumberton a lot of credit. I was one of your doubters at the beginning of the season, and you guys have been impressive throughout. Good luck in the playoffs, maybe ya'll can make another deep run.
