  1. Badly. Looks like I'm pushing double digits in wrong picks. These first two weeks are always tough on me with school starting. Next week I should be able to find some time to make some educated picks
  2. HJ was up 33-0 at the half
  3. Well, South Carolina won against an SEC opponent. They should be a top-20 team in the next rankings
  4. Tennessee just got so lucky to fumble at the goal line and recover in the end zone in OT, and only getting to OT because Appalachian ST doesn't have a place kicker.
  5. Appalachian State showing just how deep the SEC is again this year by taking #9 Tennessee to overtime. I don't dispute that there are a couple of great teams in the SEC, but every year there are top-25 teams that get top-10 rankings and top-40 teams that get get top-25 rankings simply because they're affiliated with the SEC.
  6. FYI, I had humble 9th, accounting for two of their three votes, and did not have Nederland in my poll. Glad I pleased one of the readers for once
  7. 1. Baytown Sterling/Baytown Lee 2. Houston Westside/Port Arthur Memorial 3. Dayton/Nederland 4. Houston Heights/Crosby 5. New Caney/Tomball Memorial 6. Santa Fe/Barbers Hill 7. 8. I tied AAW and beat BG, so I'm right where I need to be
  9. Not great, but the season is young.
  10. Thunder and lightening here in fannett
  11. What was the final score? Too lazy to look it up...
  12. Just finished my first week of school. I'm too tired from teaching to even look.
  13. Couldn't clear that, sorry. I just dont don't see the scenario you talk about happening. As I said before, the biggest talk about secession comes from the middle age and older white male. That's also the wealthiest segment of our population. So while they talk a big game, any movement that might mess with their money is going to fall flat, and your scenario would definitely run the risk of hurting them financially. Rebellions are only effective when a whole people (or at least a big majority) can unite against some sort of oppression. And like I said before, things just aren't that bad. If we could do it legally, then I could see it happening. Since we can't, I don't see anywhere near the problems to create the type of motivation for Texans to do what they'd have to do, and risk what they'd have to risk, for it to be successful.
  14. Technological advances would make it impossible now. We have many armed forces bases in Texas, but once the US pulls out all of their assets, we'd be left with a bunch of folks with regular guns trying to fight one of the strongest armies in the world, armed with fighter jets, bombs, etc. When the US defeated the British, the firepower on both sides was fairly even, or at least close enough to be overcome by the patriots.
  15. I know they were thoroughly examined by doctors, so if they were packing heat, they would've been banned completely. Regardless, they were not cheating. Their testosterone occurs naturally. As I said before, I don't think they should be allowed to compete with the women, but it's unfair to compare them to dopers.
  16. The Germans were doping. These women are competing the way they were naturally born. I'm not saying it's fair, but they aren't cheating.
  17. It would take another civil war. Not going to happen. Our biggest cities (Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, etc.), with the most people (and most potential troops in said civil war), are fairly liberal. Also, I'd say that the strongest push for secession is from the middle aged to elderly white male, the majority of which would be well above the age of being able to reasonably fight the war it would take to seceed. Considering how great things still really are for most of us (sure my insurance has gone up, and I'm upset about it, but I'm not signing up to kill other Americans over it), you're going to have a hard time building an army of Texans big enough to be any real threat to the US army.
  18. This is an interesting debate, to be honest. These are not guys that "identify" as women. They were born with two X chromosomes AND a Y. I totally agree that it's not fair to the women they compete against, as they produce more testosterone. It's also not fair to them to ban them, as they were born with female anatomy. I tend to side with being fair to the majority in this situation, as there are gender divisions in sports because of the obvious advantage that testosterone creates, but this is certainly a far more complicated issue than simply saying "a dude just won the 800".
  19. [Hidden Content] i read this article today in the enterprise. I'm curious about your feelings on the subject of Doctor-assisted suicide.
  20. Giant Asteroid 2016!
  21. Through my job I can attest that many folks get free housing, free cell phones, free food, free daycare, and free healthcare. I think that would qualify as "free stuff". Now, I'm not one of these people that thinks that all of these services should be disbanded, with the poor left to starve in the streets, but there is gross abuse of these programs, and a major overhaul is needed.
  22. His arms weren't subdued. Arms being subdued would mean they were cuffed behind his back. With two officers on top of him, he continued to struggle, and they were unable to gain control of his hands, one of which was inches from the gun you're still trying to say he didn't have or didn't have access to.
