I can't believe that just happened -
This is the SECond to none thread. What else am I supposed to talk about on here?
-
I kept up with a lot of games. But since the SEC gets the lead in all coverage, and because ESPN has this fancy feature where you can check all of the scores of a given conference, i spent minimal time researching the SEC's subpar opening weekend.
-
I don't have an issue with any of these, but i would like to hear your reasoning of Bama not going undefeated. Was it their dismantling of ranked USC, or the struggles of the majority of the rest of the SEC? I wouldn't be surprised if Bama lost somewhere, but I'd actually give them much BETTER odds of running the table after week 1 results than I would've before the games were played.
-
tell your friend that when you're the self-proclaimed and media-anointed "best conference ever", this is in fact the case. Especially when you're squeaking by (and losing to) mid-major schools and various other unranked teams from inferior conferences. Or maybe I'm looking at this wrong, and I should've interpreted this weekend's results as "thanks to #9 Tennessee's impressive come from behind win against Appalacian St in overtime, and Arkansas's impressive 4th quarter, 4th down comeback against Louisiana Tech, the SEC improved their record against traditional powerhouse conferences The Sunbelt and Conference USA to a very respectable 2-2 this year." Sound better?

Alabama is the real deal. The Aggies are off to their annual fool's gold start, and Georgia had a nice win. But #5 LSU losing to an unranked team, Arkansas beating La Tech by 1, #9 Tennessee needing OT to beat App St, South Carolina needing a last second fg to beat Vandy, Mizzou getting dominated by WVU, Mississippi St losing to Southern Alabama, Kentucky losing to Southern Miss, and #25 Florida only beating UMass 24-7, are all pretty strong indicators that the SEC is overrated. Not that we didn't already know this. I guess they just need to get to in-conference play where every win is a "quality win" so that we can see just how "deep" the conference is.
-
In other SEC news, LSU has exploded for 64 total yards at the half against unranked Wisconsin, although to be fair, Wisconsin would be ranked top 20 if they were in the SEC
-
Mississippi St showing the SEC's depth by only losing to Alabama by a point. What's that? Oh, my bad. Mississippi St. shows the SEC's depth by losing to SOUTH Alabama by a point. Mississippi St was favored by 28. Have no fear, though. They're only a win against an overrated SEC team away from jumping into the top 25.

I'm loving this OU/Houston game. It's 1:49...

The Broussards sell them out in Nome. They do teal hunts, too.

How's everybody's Week-2 pickems doing?
bullets13 replied to Mr. Buddy Garrity's topic in High School Football
Badly. Looks like I'm pushing double digits in wrong picks. These first two weeks are always tough on me with school starting. Next week I should be able to find some time to make some educated picks -
HJ was up 33-0 at the half
-
Well, South Carolina won against an SEC opponent. They should be a top-20 team in the next rankings
-
Tennessee just got so lucky to fumble at the goal line and recover in the end zone in OT, and only getting to OT because Appalachian ST doesn't have a place kicker.
-
Appalachian State showing just how deep the SEC is again this year by taking #9 Tennessee to overtime. I don't dispute that there are a couple of great teams in the SEC, but every year there are top-25 teams that get top-10 rankings and top-40 teams that get get top-25 rankings simply because they're affiliated with the SEC.

Just finished my first week of school. I'm too tired from teaching to even look. -

Couldn't clear that, sorry. I just dont don't see the scenario you talk about happening. As I said before, the biggest talk about secession comes from the middle age and older white male. That's also the wealthiest segment of our population. So while they talk a big game, any movement that might mess with their money is going to fall flat, and your scenario would definitely run the risk of hurting them financially. Rebellions are only effective when a whole people (or at least a big majority) can unite against some sort of oppression. And like I said before, things just aren't that bad. If we could do it legally, then I could see it happening. Since we can't, I don't see anywhere near the problems to create the type of motivation for Texans to do what they'd have to do, and risk what they'd have to risk, for it to be successful.
