That is quite a question. Thompson, both under Hooks and without him, requires strict discipline and dedication. I don't know that PAM could hold up to that.

Even if he lose some there is still a wealth of talent. There is not enough footballs for all the talent in P.A. so losing some is inevitable. Qb at Png RJ, Wr from Png Mczeal, Qb Nederland Leday, Rb Nederland Simmons are just a few from Port Arthur who would be robbed of playing time if they stayed at Memorial. Memorial is currently undefeated without them but would be a deep team with them.

Not such a stupid what if.....
What if another kid was play QB the last 2 years of PAM being in 6A?
What if we really ran the zone read properly with Kam and the kid that went to TTU?
Thompson would've done a bang up job here.  Palestine only produced AP and is not known for its foosball success.....

yeah the off-season part of the program is brutal!! when I got to college and went through practice it was a breeze in comparison.

That would depend on everybody buying into the system specially the off season, but of course this is all hypothetical.

A couple of things.  First, I wouldn't be so quick to assail the abilities of Coach Harrison.  This is a man who has lead Memorial to the only Regional Championship the school has ever claimed.  I think the Titan's last couple of years in 6A have caused some folks to conveniently forget that, but you never heard Coach Harrison use that as an excuse.
Second, as much as I love and respect Coach Thompson, others who have posted here are correct in that it takes players buying into Coach Thompson's system.  Folks at Palestine did not do that and the results showed.  In fact, I will pass along a story that I heard just before the start of this season.  A coach who left another area program and joined the WO-S staff this season said at the end of the first daytime full contact practice the Mustangs had this year that if his old school conducted practices with the physicality that WO-S did, half of the team would have quit.

With the talent Memorial consistently produce, would it be a stretch to say if Coach T was Memorial head coach that they would contend for a state championship yearly?

Nobody is saying what Memorial defense would do to West Orange offense. They haven't and wont face a team with Memorial team speed. Png offense only scored 1 td when the game was competitive. Those last two tds you seen an unagressive, nonchalant mentally relaxed defense because they knew the game was decided.  The score was 33-14 with under 5 minutes left.  They let off the gas folks. RJ stats were inflated from those drives.

Maybe the coaches are thinking for the long haul. Had I been the HC I would've did the same. If I have the game in hand, why show next week's opponent and possible playoff opponents all that I have in my play book. I think that you have to leave something in your back pocket. For example, the play where #1 pitched to the WR then snuck out into the flats. Had the WR threw it, #1 catches a wide open TD.

I agree with your post except for the statement in bold.  I'm not a proponent of running a kid to death and possibly having him out when it really matters, ESPECIALLY, when you have the talent at WR that Memorial  does.  I could understand if that's all they had was a run game.  But the pass play calling is really bad.  There's thousands of ways you can get a ball to a receiver without throwing it downfield.  We choose to be very simple with our pass when we actually have a kid that can get the ball out.  When a team blitzes, you should have a signal from qb to wr that tells them we're about to get blitzed, I'm getting the ball out quick, AND IT SHOULDN'T BE A SCREEN PASS. LOL

You are spot on. Even better, have them run hitches. You could tell the receivers for PAM were far more aggressive than the cover guys for PNG, so just spread them wide near the sidelines, hit a hitch, have them break the open field tackle, and get up field.

If they're playing 5-10 yards off, isn't that a perfect opportunity to run some quick slant or cross routes?  Especially if the other team is blitzing.  Quick slants would have kept them honest.  Get Angelle or Jones the ball with quick slants and I promise you they'll break for more yards than than they could average running screens.

You can work on the short (10-12 yard) passing game repeatedly in practice.  Timing, routes, execution.  Get that down & you will have that weapon in game play.  Let the run work, if it doesn't, throw the short, quick passes to back the defense up & then run some more.  In the playoffs, speed will cover speed after the first 2 rounds. That run game & short passing game will eat the clock & win games. Long passes are not going to be there in the later playoff rounds due to quarterback protection times & defense speed.  Use the weapons you have to your advantage.

I agree with every point made, but does anyone think you make a deep run in the playoffs being one dimensional on offense.  I'm looking at the long term effects of not having a consistent balanced offense.  Sooner or later, someone is bound to go down, but a balanced offense would keep you in the game against an opponent the likes of Manvel/Cedar Park, etc.  Even when they repeat a lot of the same passing plays.  I agree that was the best solution for what was transpiring in the game, but you can't tell me you don't have more plays to open up the passing game.  To me, some kind of consistent passing game opens up the run game even more.
I'm not the coach and I don't claim to be one, but you should have more plays geared to get the ball in the hands of your college level receivers.  You can't rely just on Hines in the playoffs.  DC's are going to game play to stop him, and when that happens, where do you go if you haven't been preparing for it.
I'm not a cynical person, my friend turned me on to this site cuz he knows I love talking football.  Just passing the time while at work, stirring up conversation.  We talk about SETX football daily.

Btw, West Orange wouldn't be able to stop Memorial if Keitha Jones Jr was playing Qb. He has all state talent but due to politics the kid has to wait until next year

This is a high school post not overall career. Maybe I should have phrased the question better. Its unfair for anyone thats still in high school to be compared on the high school level to someone on the Nfl level. Thats why I should have asked the best high school player and not just a general question. It left too much room for unbalanced comparison

I remember that game folks charged the field like we lost our minds lol.  Yeah Raymond and carl was nice.  Damm PA has had some talent at Rb.  Anybody remember Aaron Babino. He was a receiver at Lhs before becoming Sfa qb.  I liked him as a reciever. Always wondered why he left the hive.  Saw him coaching in Tyler a few weeks back

We are only comparing how good they were in high school. That's all. Not college or Nfl careers. It takes away from the framework of the question when we add on college and Nfl credentials.

I was there. lol  Running the ball, he's bigger, faster, and stronger than Johnson, but not quite the arm.  Depends on what the coaches want.
