  1. Dawgs baseball has been solid for many years. Much different than when I was on the teams. Back then, LP was basically a football factory with a decent swim team. Of course, the basketball team State Champs are still regarded as one of the best all time in Texas. I don’t think their 40-0 record will ever be matched. Don’t think that many games are even allowed any more. Not sure though. That was years after my graduation. LP baseball has averaged 20+ wins for about 20 years. I believe Coach Torres has over 400 wins in 23 years.
  2. I’m wondering if BH will allow LPSportsnet to broadcast the LP ‘Home’ games like they do at Bulldog…
  3. Not sure. I’ve wondered the same. The new subdivisions seem to be a lot of younger families. So, may not impact HS numbers for a while. Have no idea how these younger people are affording the homes ($350-$500+) plus the cost of home/flood insurance now—if they can even get coverage. Don’t know about y’all over there, but unless you’re grandfathered in like us, you have few carriers that will insure & you have to get wind and hail separate from the state. It’s crazy. Funny thing is, we usually do better during storms than much of the rest of GHA because of strict building/drainage codes. But, we get hammered as being a ‘bay’ community & still in Harris County with Houston that floods like everyone knows any time there’s a little sprinkle.
  4. LPISD does a new bond about every 9 years. It never raises our taxes, but allows us to keep some $$$ from recapture. LP residents pay millions every year in recapture due to the industry tax base. The La Porte area is supposedly one of the fastest growing areas in GHA right now. Traffic is getting ridiculous for this small of a town with all the Port of Houston truck traffic and general growth.
  5. A concept rendering. 10k seats again. A new ‘Learning/Training/Multipurpose Building’. 8 lane track. New turf, drainage, etc. Fully ADA and UIL compliant for hosting events. New parking, security entrances. Estimated cost $56MM. Definitely needed. It’s well past time.
  6. If I’m not mistaken, PAM & KWP could go from fighting it out for DC to no better than 2 & 3 seeds. Porter might even be 4 seed! Now, who projected that before tonight? 😃
  7. Awhile back I mentioned no one getting out of district unscathed. But GEEZ! This is getting crazy! HA!
  8. LP is pretty banged up. The game with Crosby would be tough enough at full strength. I understand Crosby is finally back at full strength. What about Porter? I think LP holds the short straw unless they beat Crosby. If Porter goes 2-0, LP’s out. If Porter goes 1-1, LP’s out with a Crosby loss. If LP beats Crosby & Porter goes 2-0, Porter’s in. At least, I think that’s right… EDIT: After PAM & KWP losses tonight, I give up. HA!
  9. So…if the Eagles beat PAM…hmmm…
  10. Any PO games are important as it gives the young men who will return at least another week of experience. That’s one reason successful teams remain successful. La Porte had their 25 year consecutive PO appearance run end a few years ago. Up until that time, all the young men were getting extra reps, practice, and game time that built up experience for the following years. The experience snowballs.
  11. Being new to the district, still somewhat new to 5A, and seeing a highly likely logjam at Seeds 3 and 4 in 8-5A D1, does anyone know this year’s scenarios? Head to head? Points? Coin Flip? Any info on what the schools agreed to?
  12. I respect what the program has done since 2003.
  13. LOL… Many NS fans aren’t old enough to remember when they were everybody’s Homecoming game. It really wasn’t that long ago—to me anyway—either.
  14. We can agree to disagree and be good. 👍 What O LP was running 2 years ago had no bearing on Friday night, unless PAM was studying 2 year old film, and scouting in a Time Machine. To make it more accurate, let’s say PAM’s run D was horrible against LP last night. LP’s pass D was horrible against PAM last night. (Or, we could be positive and say PAM’s pass game kicked butt last night, and LP’s run game kicked butt last night.) Y’all probably won’t like that I believe KWP’s style/scheme this year is more suited for PO football outside in the elements in Texas either. I don’t know what they’ve done before as I never observed. But, this year, their team is more suited to it than PAM IMHO. Is what it is… Since y’all both should make the PO’s, I will root for both. Just what I do. (Also, still hope LP can make it back.)
  15. Ha! Haven’t talked to BDC in a few years. Busy with grandkids, parents, etc. We do still send Christmas card. I do remember the no hand shake game. I was there.
  16. IMHO it will take LP a couple of years to get back to where they were. The powers that be had some strange calls on the program & staff. Let’s just say new supers seem to like to make their own marks—sometimes without fully knowing the town’s culture yet. They seem to be back on track now. But, the last couple of hires—pre Berneathy—did set them back. PAM has always had the talent. But, I agree. It took KH to get them to play more as a team, and use the talent. It’s a good rivalry to build back.
