What if I wore a Nederland District champ t-shirt to the next Nederland game or something? I would have no problem betting the money if I had any control over situation in ANY way...I can have my thoughts on it all day long, but, if I cant directly affect it...Coach English can coach...and believe it or not, I believe in his ability to get it done against the odds, but although its UNLIKELY, I am not willing to bet money against him!..I will wear a shirt or a sign or something like that.... ;)
How bout the usual bet? He wins both you will have to have a signature that says: "Coach Brian Enlgish is just as good as Coach Boutte." And he looses both then i will change my signature to: "Coach Brian English is inferior to Coach Boutte in every single way possible." Sound good?
Thats a BET!! 8)...Cyber shake on it! ;)
 2. Yates HS had ZERO state championships and ONE appearance (1983) before Greg Wise arrived... ::)....The person on the sidelines matters.

 4. As far as high school coaching goes, do you have to win a state title to be considered a great coach? NO. It does, however, set you apart from your collegues who have yet to win one. Does it necessarily make you a better coach than those who have not won a title? Of course not...There are a ton of elements that go into winning a championship, and a lot of things have to go right simulataniously for it to happen...ONE thing goes wrong, and it can instantly be over for you, that year...Its that easy to miss one.  And its that much harder to actually get one. It eludes many, but few are actually able to capture one. Thats what makes coaching great. Striving for that one elusive prize, year after year. Its a great feeling.
 5.
Some pretty important games to discuss this week. I think the most important game for Tuesday night is Warren @ Hardin. These two are battling Buna for that 3rd playoff spot. All three are currently tied. Friday night has Huffman @ Splendora and a win by Huffman could get them in the mix for the playoffs.
WHAT??  :o  I know you don't think we are going for that one, AAW!! Silsbee/HJ 2? GAME OF THE WEEK for sure!! This one has it all...playoff positioning...district championship....bragging rights...revenge factor...can't miss it!  8)

As well as the looming questions about the current state of district 20-4A!  :D
No questions in that district.  1.  Nederland 2.  Central 3.  Ozen 4.  LCM Nothing to discuss!!! ;)
There's PLENTY to discuss here....There was a thread on here 10 pages long last week about it! Oh yeah, there is LOTS to discuss about the state of 20-4A!! ;D
 6. Are they not giving it to Neil?
 7.
You forgot one... Coach English will suddenly become a bad coach.
That will NOT happen...Nederland is an average team, as far as talent goes, but Coach English is an excellent coach....Thus, the MAIN reason for their recent success....Those kids play very hard, and are a disciplined group...They are not going to out-talent very many teams, but they get the job done. I know I give the Nederland fans a hard time, and its all in fun, but NO ONE will deny the fact that Coach E has done a masterful job in Nederland. Now...with that said....the streak ends this week....write it down!!  :D
 8. Sure I did.... ::)...anyone that KNOWS me, knows the deal...you don't, so its ok.
 9. As well as the looming questions about the current state of district 20-4A!  :D
 10. Yeah I heard that one like 5 years ago!  :D...IF they were to ever pull the trigger on that proposed deal, from what I understand, they would have to build Yates a brand new school in that area....Which is why it hasn't been done yet.
 11.
Yates alumni calling for the superintendants head, school has had 3 princpals in 3 yrs
In ALL of HISD there are TWO set of alumni groups that call MAJOR shots within that school district...One is Wheatley, and the other is Yates....They pretty much get their wishes within HISD..Now, as far as calling for the Supts. head, I have no knowledge about that, but they usually get their way in Houston.
 12.

I am saying from being around it, those numbers may not be accurate...I DOUBT Wheatley has 800 students, let alone 1100...They did not want to drop to 3A in the past, is all I am saying...Not making any accusations...just OBSERVATIONS ;)...
They do not have to drop is the point. They could still opt up like the others have done in the past few realignments. There was no need to fudge any numbers. You always have the option to stay up.
That is correct...There are certain brass that would like to see HISD schools compete at the 3A level because they have seen that the success that the Dallas area has had by making this move..there are others, that do not want to be considered a small school in a district as large as HISD...So there are people pulling at this issue from BOTH ends..Once again, this is from people that are inside of the district on the admin side.  Personally, I would like to see them compete wherever the TRUE numbers dictate, and not play "up" for pride or play "down" for perceived dominance.
 13. I am saying from being around it, those numbers may not be accurate...I DOUBT Wheatley has 800 students, let alone 1100...They did not want to drop to 3A in the past, is all I am saying...Not making any accusations...just OBSERVATIONS ;)...
 14.
Yes theres a new ad, but cross was hired in 09, before the new ad. And won rt away
Yes they did...had Jerre and I stayed, we were well on our way as well...Please note, we were brand new to Division I, and had some holdovers from a Division III squad, and held our own in a tough league beating the Conference champ at their place on the way...It is usually a process, but we did not see it through...Jerre knew it was going to be an uphill battle with the AD that was in place, so he took the job in Kansas...NOTE: Jarvis Bernard, Jamar Gulley, and Ryan Donahoe were recruited by us to play at Lamar PA until he went to HCC in Kansas, which is where they ended up going..It was being built...just didnt get to see the fruits of it.
 15. Numbers reported versus ACTUAL ATTENDANCE FIGURES....Like I said before, not 100% sure, but I understand how it works over there...and I am PRETTY SURE that Wheatley, for example does NOT have 1101 students by any means...PRETTY SURE...
 16.
I couldn't care less if English does not quite have the credentials as Boutte. That fact that any coach who does not think English is great and can give him credit must have been a clip board toter. English is trying to win district, make the playoffs and see if we can take off, just like any other team hopes happens for them. How close did you "sniff" a championship as a HC? That's what I thought.
I was just as close as Coach English was!  ;)...I KNOW that Coach English is a fantastic coach...how many times must I say it?? YOU CANNOT PUT HIM ON THE LEVEL WITH WHAT BOUTTE HAS DONE...PERIOD. Look, this is a frivilous argument...If you can't SEE my point, its a waste of time on both our parts. Enjoy your Sunday.
Everybody needs to remember this is the same Dickie that said winning at lamar pa would never happen as long as Bill W was there. Of course one new coach and a year later, we all know hiw good lamar pa has done. So people need not worry to much about his judgement of coaching talent.
If my memory serves me right Lamar PA HAS A NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR as well... ::) ::)...you enjoy your Sunday as well...
The best without a championship? I will compromise with THAT one... ;)....Like Roy Williams used to be before he went to UNC...Like Jim Boheim, pre Carmelo Anthony... ;D ;D
Yet he couldn't beat him in three games with more talent.
What about the other 25 games they played head to head, winning by 40 and 50 plus? Did they somehow NOT count? Oh and the State Championships were a fluke also, I suppose?...at two different schools? Luck? Good fortune? Its ok, no credit is needed from those who are jealous, and have never SNIFFED a title...You're from Vidor, right? NOT A SNIFF... ::) ::) 8)
Man my lil sister could win a state champ with the likes of jackson and perk on his team.
In 1991 Perk was a toddler and Stevie was a 7th grader...You wanna try that one again? You think Omar Sneed (5A Player of the Year in 1995 from Westbrook) was a pretty good player? What about Luke Jackson (1991 Westbrook star, played at Syracuse)? You know a guy named Rashard Lewis (Alief Elsik 1998)? ALL GREAT PLAYERS...ZERO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS...Its not guaranteed that you will win state with good athletes...THEY HAVE TO BE COACHED TOO.  ;)
Never said he wasn't a great coach. His record speaks for itself but English has ran this district just as much as Boutte did with less talent. IMO he is the better coach.
That is called a FALSE STATEMENT...Boutte won District 20-4A for NINE YEARS STRAIGHT...NOT LOSING A DISTRICT BALL GAME FROM The second half of 1999 until 2004...Then went on ANOTHER STREAK FROM 2004 TO 2008...THAT WAS DOMINANCE...FACT....Your bias is showing, because you are arguing for a really good coach with no championships versus a great one with multiple championships...it just doesn't add up.
 18. I think that we are saying the same thing AAW...Jones, Sterling, and Yates have specialized "magnet" programs within the school, NOT traditional magnet programs...Kashmere sends those kids to Barbara Jordan during the day and they are allowed to play sports at Kashmere..I can pretty much tell you that those numbers are WAY off...Particularly at Wheatley....1101? They have not had THAT many kids there in a good while..I can't say for certain, but I will bet the ranch those HISD numbers are inaccurate...They do a lot for re-alignment purposes in HISD..THAT I DO know for certain.

Last realignment they had over 1200 students and cutoff for 3A was at 990. Just don't see them dropping more than 210 students in just 2 years. But, it's possible.
Yeah its possible, but doubtful that it happened like that...Spoke to some folks yesterday in the HISD loop, and they indicated that the community is totally against going to 3A...I think that they were not counting the 200+ kids that are in the School of Communications program at Yates, that do not LIVE in the zone. Thats ONE of the explanations that I got about the numbers...Its SO many ways that schools can fudge those numbers one way or another in order to get the outcome that they desire...HISD athletic dept. is not particularly crazy about it either. I may GO to the re-alignment meeting next week...Its gonna be GOOD! 8)
Doubtful that it happened like what? What are you speaking of? HISD did not check the box to opt up for Yates, so that tells me they are content on having Yates go where their numbers place them. The snap shot day was back in October, so the numbers have been sent in. Problem is, HISD did not make those numbers public like other districts did on snapshot day.
I was stating that it was doubtful that the numbers just dropped so rapidly in just two years..I was saying that maybe they failed to count those Communcation students who live OUTSIDE the zone..Thats what I was told, anyway...There was a reason HISD kept those numbers private....I guarantee.. ;)...I don't think they really WANT to go down..They may HAVE to, but I don't believe thats the desire though.
If HISD does not WANT to go down, then why didn't they just check the box to opt up, regardless of the numbers, like they have done the past 3 realignments? BTW, who do you men by THEY when you state "they failed to count those Communication numbers who live outside the zone"? The snapshot number is how many students are enrolled in said high school, all campuses. Not how many students live within the school zone.
Yeah, but strangely enough, when counting for the snapshot, they are not required to count the students that live outside the zone who are there exclusively for attending the magnet program at Yates...YES, its strange, but oddly enough, apparently it happens..The only schools with ACTUAL 3A numbers in HISD are Wheatley, Furr, Scarborough, Kashmere, and Worthing....And actually not so much Kashmere, because they pull from the Barbara Jordan School of Careers across the street from them that does not have an athletic program...BJ has around 600 students there...The other schools they are trying to pull in so that HISD can have an all 3A district...MOST in HISD do NOT want this...The ones that do, are not truly knowledgeable about the athletic aspect of it, and are looking at saving money by having their own 3A district, so they are trying to make those smaller 4A schools drop with them to 3A..Otherwise they would have to join Stafford and Brookshire Royal in a district, which would be burden travelwise ($$$)
