  1. All three are ranked in the top 25 in the MaxPreps rankings. Looks as if this new district is pretty stacked! Does anyone know how the playoff bracket will look? Will all 1st seeds be matched up against 4th seeds? And if so, from which district?

First off, maxpreps is a joke! Don't put any faith in their rankings.

Second, there are only 87 teams statewide in 4A-II. So being in the top 25 isn't really all that great. That doesn't even mean your in the top 25%.

How far they make it might have more to do with how the bracket falls. If they can dodge laGrange, LaMarque, and/or Bellville they should have a fairly easy run up to the regional finals.
I would love to see HJ and WOS meet up at regionals with the winner going to Jerry World to face Coldspring. Pretty sure most of that won't happen, but would be fun!
  2. Well LCM beat Coldspring in 2012 35 to 20 in that pre district schedule. Were you impressed by that LCM team? I understand what your saying by LCM not being impressive. They got a slow start and hopefully will finish the year strong. The play calling has gotten a little better, and with this freshman and Jv squad they should be better in the years to come.

Not really. Coldspring played like crap that game. LCM beat them, but didn't really stand out as anything special.
Go watch Navasota put a whoopin on somebody, or Carthage a few years ago. That is impressive! Other than that, I haven't seen a team I didn't think Coldspring would not be able to beat. I have seen some very good WOS, LaMarque, and Wimberly (state champion) teams that I felt if Coldspring played them twice a year, we would win at least one.
I am not saying Coldspring would necessarily beat WOS, HJ, or even Huffman this year. I am just saying these 3 districts are pretty weak as a whole.
  3. WOS and Coldspring (who have been pretty powerful teams over the last 5 years at least) have played brutal pre-district schedules and haven't faired so well.
Huffman and Hardin Jefferson are undefeated, but in reality haven't played all that tough of a pre-district schedule. I know that is going to get me called some names and piss a bunch of people off, but it is what it is. If either team wants to schedule Navasota, Foster, PNG, or Terry next round, I am sure they will be available.
Silsbee, Cleveland, and Jasper have not been their normal selves.
LCM is a welcomed addition, but hasn't been super impressive this year.
Shepherd is getting better every year and soon will be a nightmare on the schedule, just not quite yet.
Orangefield is playing decent, but Look like a solid third place finish.
Hamshire-Fannett and Tarkington have good records, but have lost to the only good teams on their schedule.
Bridge City, Splendora, Liberty, Diboll, Madisonville, and Huntington are all pretty horrible.

Sorry, but not very impressive as a group this year.
The good news is for some of these teams, the first round opponent in the playoffs may be some of the worst teams in the history of the state to make the playoffs! Sending 12 of these teams to the playoffs is ridiculous! The districts were watered down by the realignment, several teams have fallen off the grid, and the playoffs will be watered down too.
I think the winner of WOS and Hardin-Jefferson gets the team who hasn't won in 5 or 6 years first round of the playoffs!

  5. And if they're refusing because the person is black?

Then everyone should take that into account when they patronize that business. If you don't agree with it then don't shop there.
A business should have the right to decide who it lets in. They should also be responsible for that choice if they choose to make it. Should nudists be allowed in a restaurant? No shirt, no shoes, no service. There are plenty of places that are banning concealed carry on their property. I choose not to support those places, just like they choose to ban the legal carry of firearms on their property. If they hang a sign up that says "no blacks allowed", the. I will choose not to do business with them also. If they still have enough customers to stay open then so be it, but if they go bankrupt, it is their own fault.
Howany Muslims were actually wanting to go to this shooting range? I bet it was a very small number, and it is probably more the owner trying to make a political statement or score some brownie points with a few of the other customers. Do they really think it will stop a shooting or keep some radical idiot from killing people if they don't practice at their range? Hopefully they are not that dumb.
All I am saying is that we should have choices. Sometimes those choices have consequences. A business should be able to run its business the way it wants, and we as consumers should decide if we like the choices they make. If they want to ban white people or christians or women or little green men from outer space, that should be their choice. It doesn't mean the rest of us have to shop there either. Where does political correctness end and when can we finally just be honest with each other and quit trying to fix or change everyone? We can't all be offended all the time. If we all take care of the one person we can control, ourself, nd quit telling everyone else what to do the world would be a better place.
  6. Well.... After that I still see shepherd coming in 2nd, we will get to see Tarkington next week.
    1. Coldspring
    2. Shepherd
    3.Tarkington
    4. Diboll

Agreed, I guess we will see next week if Tarkington is for real, but I think Shepherd handles them easily. Just curious, is number 7 from Shepherd ok? Kid played hard last night and I hated to see him get hurt. I didn't see if he came back in.
  7. Only 1 district game played but wow! I don't mean to jump the gun, but seeing the rest of the scores from our district last night it looks like Coldspring will be district champs with Shepherd in 2nd and then maybe Tarkington and anyone's guess for 4th place and last playoff spot.

I thought going into this year that Madisonville would be better than they are. After Diboll beat them last night, I now have my doubts.

Tarkington has some wins, and has been blowing a lot of them out, but If you look at who they have beaten, well ugh.

Huntington appears to be continuing to be bad.

Diboll I expect to get better in the future, but it is going to take a few years to get there.

Shepherd continues to improve every year and should walk through the rest of the district with ease. I say should because they seem to find a way to blow a game every year that they should win. I am hoping this will be the year they stop having let downs and can make a splash in the playoffs.

Coldspring defense was very good against Shepherd but has to stop the stupid penalties that give up first downs. If I counted right, there were 3-15 yard penalties after a 3rd down play and 2 roughing the punter penalties that gave Shepherd 5 first downs instead of getting the ball back to CS. That is just stupid! You can't win games like that. The offense has had trouble sustaining drives all year and have lost some of the explosiveness to break long plays they had a couple years back. Part of this comes from the the strength of defenses they have played, but something seems to be lacking.

As of today I would say:
    Coldspring - undefeated in district
Shepherd - got their only loss in district last night
Tarkington - loses to Shepherd and Coldspring
Diboll - loses to Shepherd, Coldspring, Tarkington
    Madisonville - beats Huntington
Huntington - 0 wins in district

Sure missing having Huffman and Cleveland in district this year. This may be the worst district in the state!
  8. I am good friends with our band director and I know homecoming is very important to some of the participants and fans, but this is a football game. The football teams should have priority in getting ready for the game. Now, out of courtesy, if you know they are having homecoming, you should be flexible and adjust to the schedule. In the end, we are supposed to be teaching the kids more than just winning or losing at football.
