Remember the kid from Coldspring last year he was the same way, called his own plays. I like giving kids the option to decision making. Dallas is really growing, I think he will be just fine on Friday night. It will be a good game. I expect WOS to win, but if :-) they don't good luck.!

Coldspring QB definitely does not call their own plays! Barbay calls every offensive play and has the QB come to sideline each play to talk it over. They tried a wristband for a few weeks signaling in plays, but that didn't last. Coldspring QB last year was a great kid, but hardly a great QB. Just FYI

  3. Madisonville is now 2-1 in district. Coldspring and Tarkington to go. They will lose to Coldspring so they are basically 2-2 at this point. So if they beat Tarkington they are in.

Diboll 2-1 in district. Shepherd and Tarkington to go. If they win either game they are in.

Shepherd 1-2 in district. Huntington and Diboll to go. They will beat Huntington, so they are basically 2-2 with Diboll left. They win, and they are in, or if they lose and end up with the same record as Tarkington, they are in since they beat Tarkington.

Tarkington 1-2 in district. Diboll and Madisonville to go. Has the toughest road to making the playoffs. They need to win both games or beat Diboll and have Shepherd beat Diboll to get in.

This week is going to make or break some of these teams chances. Big week coming up for 8-4A-II!
  4. The new AD/HC at Diboll is a good friend of mine... his first AD/HC job was at Orangefield and was at Coldspring last year... he is a good coach... I wouldn't be surprised to see him make some noise up there in the next couple years.... I will be keeping an eye on this District... just to see how he fairs against his old school C-O....

He has already made a big impact at Diboll. They have a good chance of making the playoffs this year. In the next couple of years things will get interesting when Diboll and Coldspring meet.
  5. Another week, another shake up!

Coldspring looks to win district and be number 1 seed. Huntington is pretty much eliminated.

Madisonville is now 2-1 in district. Coldspring and Tarkington to go.
Diboll 2-1 in district. Shepherd and Tarkington to go.
Shepherd 1-2 in district. Huntington and Diboll to go.
Tarkington 1-2 in district. Diboll and Madisonville to go.
These four are in a fight for 3 playoff spots. Each team still controls their own fate. Win out and your in. Lose a game and your chances drop. Lose 2 and your done.
    Who's it gonna be?

My thoughts at this point are Madisonville, Shepherd, and Diboll. That means the drought for Tarkington continues. Hard to say though, this one is going to come down to the wire for a few of these teams!
  6. You have to be kidding! Come on Shepherd! Y'all pull this every year. Always one let down game that most years cost a playoff spot. I thought for sure this was the year y'all got past that. Congratulations to Madisonville. Looks like things got a lot more interesting in district rankings now. 2nd-4th are up for grabs. Who wants it bad enough to take it??
  7. Getting a little ahead of yourselves aren't you. Better finish district first before you start talking about sweeping the first round of playoffs. A lot can change between now and then. A few injuries and they may be talking about sweeping y'all. Some of the Houston teams are pretty bad, but I'm not sure any of y'all can beat LaMarque much less the fourth place team.
  8. Just like last week, Shepherd seems to be the test for 8-4AII. Madisonville looks to have the opposite problem from Tarkington. They may be better than they have played. Shepherd WILL make the playoffs this year. The question is, can they hang on to the second spot. If so, they will get a 3rd place team in round one, and should have a good shot at a win.

I am taking Shepherd in this one, but could be a surprise on Friday.

  10. Shepherd defense is pretty good. I just don't know if their offense will do much against good teams.
Another tough week for Tarkington next week.Hope they will be able to rebound and make the playoffs. Looks like reality may be setting back in.
Assuming they loose to CS next week. They need to beat Diboll and Madisonville. 2-3 district record may not get them in. 3-2 will
  11. Yes your right $$$ is always motivation but some kids can study there a** off and still have trouble passing. Your also right about no pas no play being around a long time. Does that make it right? Slavery was around a long time to did that make it right? I have a son who has dyslexia he goes after school for help he also stays up to 1 and 2 o'clock in the morning doing homework. Then he gets told he can't play football a game he loves or show at the fair something else he loves to do. Then people say no pass no play is a good thing that's because they don't have to see the disappoint on there child's face. Sounds more like discrimination against those that have a hard time with school and grades.

It is always tough when a kid works hard at something and then isn't successful. I hate that your son has it harder than some of the other kids might. The problem is the real world is not going to make exceptions for him. He is going to have to overcome this problem. Is it fair, no! Guess what, life is not fair. Not trying to be mean, but don't let this be your excuse to let him slide and not pass. It is difficult, but you must help him overcome and find a way to be successful. Imagine the look on his face when he does pass and is able to play, show, or graduate. The hard work that he had to put in may be the work ethic that makes him successful in whatever he chooses to do some day. In the end, no pass no play is law. If you don't like it, talk to your representatives and get it repealed.
On another note, I hope the school is also helping with the dyslexia. If not, you need to have a serious talk with some administrators. There are programs that can help, and sometimes they have to try different things to find the one that works. Good luck to your son, and hope he never misses a game or show. Be proud of him for the hard work that he puts in. That is something many kids today lack.
  12. So I found this and it appears your are mostly correct. The student can not show the animal, but can groom it and even help deliver it to the show. Then it can be shown by another individual.

FFA truthfully does not fall under UIL. However, the organization has adopted UIL's rules for many things including no-pass-no-play. Whether or not the animal is allowed to be exhibited is up to the fair and the school. A lot of fairs have rules that say the student must show their own animal, so if they fail, them and the animal are out.
Still , no-pass-no-play has been around a long time. The responsibility falls on the student and parent to make sure the kid is eligible. Seems like a couple thousand dollars worth of feed and calf should be motivation to study!
  13. At the beginning of the year I expected Madisonville to be a solid 2nd or 3rd in district. They haven't shown that this far. Right now they look like they may be fighting with Huntington for the cellar. We will get another look at things this week. How good does Diboll look against Coldspring? Is Shepherd able to get it back together and beat Tarkington, or is Tarkington for real or just had the easiest schedule possible? Can Madisonville whip up on Huntington? If so, maybe they have a playoff spot yet. If they barely beat Huntington, the rest of their season will be miserable.
