Hardin-Jefferson Marathon/Post updates here!
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I think Vidor could have swept Pool B but we were missing several key players in both Thursday games. Played much better today with all of our starters but it is what it is. We’re Silver bracket B4 vs A3, does anyone have an idea who A3 might be? Like this I think A3 will probably be Chapel Hill , they are playing Kelly now.. I didn't see the Vidor vs Huffman game this morning but I've seen all these teams several times and I'd pick Shelbyville and Huffman the majority of the time. -

Bracket play will be some good basketball before anyone starts looking ahead to Saturday. Shelbyville and Huffman both have really solid clubs as well as HJ on the top half of the bracket. Spring Hill should advance on the bottom half. -

It was a good ballgame. Huffman spread the floor up by 10 and lost a little momentum. Two good clubs. -

Maybe on turf, mud is the great equalizer to speed. If it ain't lightning then you play.

Teams with good running games pray for wet fields while teams with passing attacks love the dry surface. Why would anyone with a ground game agree to reschedule?

Hardin-Jefferson 67 Nederland 65/FINAL
whsalum replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
He was released from the hospital the following day and I believe was even able to make the trip to Nederland. I think he is probably in concussion protocol right now but I can't guarantee that. He will be on the court again this season. He's a lucky young man ! -
Average teams don't win 22 straight district games and 3 consecutive district championships. I see where EC is still playing after Woodville beat them in the district matchup .Thats a perfect example of matchups. Had Woodville gone that route chances are they would still be playing. I gotta disagree about the game being 90% coaching. Warren has had some good coaches over the years and hasn't won a ballgame in forever. At the end of the day there's only one state champion in every classification and they usually have a team full of exceptional athletes.
-
I don't know the Woodville coach or anything about him but with his record the last three years I'd be concerned about keeping him at a 3a school. He has built a very impressive resume and most good young coaches have their sites set a little higher.

High school football and basketball is all about matchups. Even more so in the smaller classifications. No matter who you schedule preseason by the 3rd round of the playoffs there's nothing left in it but pretty good teams. Woodville had a good club this year. They weren't good enough to win state but they have a lot of company. They should be congratulated on a great year. Anyone advocating changing coaches should look around and see what everyone else is doing. The guy has turned the program around. Enjoy the success with him. Congrats Eagles on a great season.

SETXsports BOYS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL RANKINGS
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I think the 3a district will be EC, Buna, Orangefield and Kountze in that order. -
Bridge City 67 Kountze 45/FINAL
whsalum replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
BC has a nice little club. They looked very disciplined and fundamental. Kountze doesn't look anything like the clubs of the past. Coach Joubert has them playing hard but they are going to face some challenges. I would definitely have BC in the playoff hunt. -

I know coach Joubert will get all these kids have to offer but it looks like a long year for the Lions. They will make the playoffs I think because the bottom of the district doesn't look to be very strong but from what I saw last night I would probably pick them 4th. -
Vidor at Hardin-Jefferson/Game called in 3rd Q
whsalum replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Very scary injury , really puts the game in perspective. So glad to hear the young man has started to regain feeling in his hands and feet. Kudos to the first responders who worked on the young man. We are very fortunate to have these folks. -

Keep the young man in your prayers tonight. Injury occurred diving for a loose ball. Young man taken by ambulance to the hospital. -

Did they actually end the game early? If so that's not girls fighting outside. Way to much of this stuff happening these days. At the end of the day it's still just a game. -
Cleveland 63 Hardin-Jefferson 73/FINAL OT
whsalum replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Cleveland had some kids that could play. They lost 3 I think in OT to foul trouble and didn't have much depth. -

Are they playing in a UIL district? That's gonna be brutal on them if they are. -

Who is Fred Good Samaritan? Never heard of tos one . -
Not sure what the answer is to that question. Been some good coaches come through with basically the same results.
-
What does it say about our current UIL playoff system when we're talking about playoff locations and a 70-14 loss to a third place team in the same thread. I'm glad the Hardin club got to experience 7 wins, my hometown club hasn't won 7 games in years. My question is what's wrong with our playoff format?

Plan on making the Big Sandy tourney since we are in it. Is that the same dates as HJ? No look usually the HJ guys are at Aransas Pass when Big Sandy host their tournament
