This is something some of us parents have been discussing lately as far down the line as PeeWee Tackle and even flag. We have concerns already for our kids as they move up. Just among us parents, we would love to have the district's coaches more involved in the youth level as far as teaching plays they'll be running and having a well defined system in place, getting these little ones prepped for school ball.
Ideally, we'd like to see the older players involved with the youth teams, whether it be helping at camp or running chains on Saturdays. We have to build the community we want. Get the little ones looking up to the big boys.
We just moved to the district from PN-G. We're used to crazy school spirit and showing up to games where I don't know a single kid on the field and it doesn't matter because they're ALL your kid.

I know 2 or 3 coaches over there. I know some are really good coaches. Not saying that a change isn’t good sometimes. But guys, high school football is like poker in a lot of ways. You may win with a crappy hand. But at some point the bluff runs out. You can also lose with a winning hand too. Happens all the time. But, by and large, if you’re a good poker player, after all the hands are dealt, you should come out a winner over a period of time. The one variable is the cards. Crappy cards, usually means a crappy hand. If an amateur gets 4 aces, and a seasoned pro gets a pair of 3’s, the pro is gonna lose. LC-M is in the middle - more like a straight. Decent players (cards), but playing against a full house. You’re not gonna talk that other player into folding a full house. So you lose. Here’s the key. Get better cards. How do you do that? Stack the deck! Make better players. You can only play the cards you’re dealt. But you gotta start building that deck even before those kids get into Jr. High. Winning is an attitude. WOS, Newton, Carthage and many many more schools around the state Win year in and year out. Even with different coaches. It’s the attitude that winning is the only acceptable answer. If you hear someone say, “maybe next year”, “hopefully we move down “, “we need new coaches” every 2 or 3 years, and the like, that program is destined to fail. Winning is an attitude, a tradition, a way of life. Maybe a coaching change would be good. But if you don’t have an entire community - especially the student athletes - devoted to winning, then quit simply you won’t. Start stacking that deck right now and believe.

Exactly. Gotta get some more experience. A good off-season, weights, weights, weights. By looking at your JV scores, need to keep your fingers crossed that some of those boys develop too. You have a pretty good coaching staff imo. So the rest goes on the boys back. They gotta want it. They have to work out during Christmas break, Spring Break, summers,  weekends, etc. when the coaches aren’t there to push them and when all the other kids are pulling their puds or playing video games. Finally, it has to hurt - really hurt - to lose. Winning has to become the standard. That’s with any program. Lumberton folks could use some of this advice too.

I wouldn't call them a disgrace to the sport. You try to put yourself in the best position to go a far as you can in playoffs. Kids will always play hard but I have no issues with playing the 2's in a game that affects seeding. Work smarter not harder. Especially if the outcome doesn't hurt you AT ALL, let the benchwarmers play.

I can tell you first hand those kids played to win. I talked to a couple LC-M coaches on the field after the game and there were quite a number of boys with their heads down either crying or upset. Nobody likes to lose.

If it's a Legit Question, then your premise is a little flawed. If you got a coach that won football games (I mean won like Newton, WOS, etc. year in/year out) then the scouts are gonna come no matter what. Plus in this day and age, even Junior High kids can make their own highlight videos. Hudl, YouTube, MaxPreps and other sites give the ability for these kids to be noticed a lot more than even just 5 years ago.
Therefore, if you had a coach that could bring a team wins, then he would effectively be getting those same kids recruited.
So, with that thought in mind, your question could only be: Would you rather choose a coach that wins football games and gets kid recruited or would you rather choose a coach that loses football games and gets kid recruited?
    I'll take the winner please...

Agreed. Like camps, videos, phone calls, talking to coaches on the high school and college levels...

Then to flatly answer your question, I would choose the winning program. Even if my kid was on that team.
Coaches are hired to win games.

A 5 year old girl hadn't talked for her entire life. Her parents thought there was something wrong with her. One morning at breakfast, she screamed at her mother, "You burned my dad gum toast". Her relieved mother asked her why she hadn't spoken till now? She said, "Up till now, everything has been alright".
