  1. Just a question--did BC & Sil. end as Co-district champs and the up coming game will just determine who will represent in 1st and 2nd spots in the playoff bracketing?...or is that the District Championship game?
  2. Regardless of the outcome of the BC/Sil. playoff game--there is a good chance they will meet again on up the bracket. I am also glad they did not flip a coin; but will get more practice by playing each other prior to the bracket runs. PNG and LCM are both good in 4A--I would like to see a warmup round-robin which included BC, PNG, LC-M and Sil. to get them all more tuned for the playoffs....
  3. Unfortunately BC only has one strong team and that is the 8th grade which is mopping the floor with all opponents. There are a host of boys that do not want to play because of some past experiences; hopefully with a new AD this can be rectified by next season
  4. I was more than impressed with OF's # 20. BC made the mistake in two games to try to spike on her and she was a great blocker. Once they would set away from her and spike other locations they won the other three games. #20 is All District material! Hope OF makes the playoffs.
  5. BC over H-F 3-0 but H-F girls were quite scrappy in two of the games.
  6. Meyers from Bridge City. There is a good one from Silsbee in fact she stands way out on that Tiger team.
  7. Congrats to Silsbee for last night. These teams are tied for District and I believe it will end that way. I would guess that they may be like the Jasper vs BC series in baseball last year. These two could possibly end up playing each other for the Region III Regional championship. Close hard fought games with close scores at the end: Silsbee held their composure and completed more good serves and prevailed.
  8. BC wins-- they are getting better. Great Coach and dedicated hard working players. When 6' 3" Samantha West and even maybe Brittany James(possible) at playoff time they might well shine.
  9. Great article should help some folks not get hurt. I would add that both boys and girls need to add assorted exercise along with the weight lifting. Big muscles without strong fiber-tendon-bone connections causes torn muscles at the tie-on points, all too often.
  10. As I see it--BC has a great Coach who is getting them ready for playoffs, They have bigger and stronger prime athletes who can play most any sport. The work ethics is strong in all sports and activities that they chose to participate. If Samantha and Brittney James make it back before playoffs they may do even better. The spikes are getting torrid-- driving the opponent arms back on impact. That can make a difference against top level teams.
  11. To Bobkat: A good 9th grade team out in OF; to beat BC. BCs ninth grade usually wins as you may know.....Congrats to that good 9th grade team.
  12. BC over OF tonight in three quick games. BC is getting better and better. We also heard that 6' 3" Samantha will be back well before the playoffs! She dominates the net area and will be needed to advance in the statewide games.
  13. Why doesn't someone start a new 3A Poll? BC just swamped OF in three quick games.
  14. Looked to me like good discipline by the BC team was the deciding factor in every game. Several girls had to step up to adequately cover for their ailing Senior Spiker ace. The Pender girl was a bright spot for H-F; good consistent digs.
  15. Although I don't believe Silsbee will win the district; I think they will enjoy a big win over WO-S.
  16. Bridge City has a good proven Coach and they are looking even better as the season rolls on.
  17. If BC can develop some kind of running attack inside the 30 yard line--I think they can score enough to win. They look OK out in mid-field. Young players but they can improve.
  18. I see BC vs Jasper as pretty much a toss-up--both great teams. Without a host of errors by Seniors last year BC would have won state. These two teams stand out way above the crowd; just as last year-- in all of 3A. The brutal fact is that this 3A district had 4 teams that would have won the bulk of the district races across the whole state. BC is blessed with a good pitching staff--Jason Clark just may prove to be the best 3A pitcher in the state before it is all over; closely followed by Hicks.
  19. Has Bridge City received some new students this year that can help the baseball team in the future?
  20. Evidently most of us(youth and adults) see the continuing same-people barrage of propaganda saying that this one teams' players must give THAT SB team TOP PRIORITY above other sports, mainly at their respective HSs. The unintentional culprits are those who have said this in most all their post from the beginning of this blitz of promotion. It appears that maybe you were wanting--"Too much sugar for a dime". I would hate to see good young HS girls placed in the following two type predicaments if they tried to play both; HS commitments and a demanding SB Coach.----here are the two scenarios-- 1 The travel SB Coach says, "You need to be on the bus Friday at 4:30 pm for a Tournament starting at 7:30 in San Antonio Saturday. ' Likewise, the HS Volleyball Coach says, "NO! that's the same night we start district play and I need you as a spiker!." 2. The travel SB Coach makes the same demand of a HS Cheerleader "Be on the Bus!" Likewise, the Cheerleader Sponsor says, "Hey! this is Homecoming we need you as a catcher when we throw Amy up a dozen times that night. We count on you for your strength and we know you don't want to see Amy get hurt-if we had to sub someone for you." Evidently their were just not enough girls that wanted to handle the pressure of this "quagmire" of two demanding authorative figures "stressing" these youth out who are torn between two groups with impossible demands for the same time-frames. Looks to me you will have to play with a watered down group from this area and/or sub in Houston 5A girls. I am not sure how this will all play out but it appears to me the tactics used just prior to and during the AFA Tournament may have de-stablized the whole 18 & U area SB participation(and totally discouraged a number of good girls)-- as long-term teams have even been disbanded. Most girls it appears, even great D-1 potential girls, would rather play with their friends in a less stressful atmosphere: and in the off season continue other select programs and just hope that if they get a scholarship offer- if it is because they are exceptional players. Please try not to read any malaice into this observance. I have helped with sports development of all kinds for decades and am just making observations!
  21. Since my reasoning was challenged--some saying that the area multi-sport girls cannot compete with this new team, I will expand a bit. Nederland, PNG, and BC were the higher finishers in HS ball this past season and many of these girls are multi-sport people. To even question their softball commitments is quite wrong in my humble opinion! All of these HS programs have a host of multi-sports athletes that also love SB. I will ask others to expand on the other activities of the girls from Nederland and PNG as to their well-rounded HS program participation. Since I know a little about Bridge City I will make a brief observation on the multi-purpose sports--nature of this traditionally strong girls diamond squad. Just for a guess at the BC starters next season-- Catcher-Emily Kosh-also a great volleyball future Pitcher-Shandi Conner-a senior cheerleader and year round SB pitching student 1st base- Valarie Brown-a top weightlifter and a cheerleader 2nd base- Jenna Angelle-good Volleyball and Basketball participant 3rd base-Allison Angelle-good Volleyball and Basketball participant S.S.- Loren Angelle-good Volleyball and Basketball participant LF- Emily Navorra- Cheerleader and Basketball player CF-Malorie Guidry- Cheerleader, Volleyball and Basketball RF- Sarah Armand-Cheerleader, Track star, volleyball & basketball Now the rest of the BC Varsity and the JV are also multi-purpose sport participants, as far as I know. Like most all past BC teams these girls are mostly also A-B honor students. The undefeated JV is strong in multi-purpose sports also. I am quite familiar with how many great Nederland & PNG girls that are top multi-purpose sports girls. Also I am familiar with multi-sport stars at LMC,WO-S, Vidor also... .I am just curious as to who these super-star Shocker Girls actually are?-- from this area that would be able to-- kick the butt-- of all this array of multi-purpose girls that win Districts and star on the individual SB teams at their HS seasons?
  22. The post was not about competing with club ball of any kind--it was about girls that are great SB players that want to do normal HS activities; yet, they too love SB select participation that does not force them out of their normal HS activities. There has to be a happy-medium somewhere for multi-skilled young ladies.
  23. I have seen some attacks on here lately, so I would like to compliment a coach--Big Gander--who stood up for the multi-sport girls. Thank B.G. for standing your ground with your ideas; under extreme pressure. 1. I see local great SB aces playing HS volleyball, even getting ready for HS track & field etc: 2. I see excellent SB girls that are well-proportioned and beautiful being chosen by their HS peers-- that want to cheer for their HS teams in the fall. 3. I see HS pitchers working two days a week with their Pitching Coaches that also want to burn the books and be really prepared for college classes. I looked over the ones not participating in the mono-sporting push and I truly believe THESE girls can beat the highly touted mono-sporting Coaches' team. There is some real proven "hosses" wanting a little more rounded HS experience. Many of the better girls at SB are from 4A classification and below and are needed by their local HSs in other honorable activities. If someone wants a mono-SB team there are a host of 5A schools players toward Houston that will play for you. On any given day this fall I truly think you can just put together the multi-sport best HS athletes in the area at SB and beat the socks off the, "one-sport-only-allowed" local upstart team.
  24. Oh, out at Bridge City--Luther Sanders, Jerry Gibson, Willie Hayes, Kevin Angelle..At Orangefield, that's easy, Jeff Granger
  25. I was quite proud of OF--they gave Silsbee and WO-S very good games last season. I look for Ben Dixon to go D-1 he is quite a lineman and a good kid. Celina and OF are very different--Celina recruits and OF just develops the kids from their neighborhood. I would think OF would give Celina all they wanted.
