And I never said that they shouldn't have one.  Would the Mustangs be excited to see field turf at Dan Hooks? Absolutely.  Would Coach Thompson like to see it?  Of course.  Heck, I would like to see it.
But the more that you post, especially with the labeling of programs that don't play on turf backwards and archaic, the more I am convinced that the justification for the proliferation of artificial turf fields comes down to the turf field becoming a status symbol.  That may meet your definition of a legitimate reason to install field turf, but it doesn't meet mine.  And to label a community that doesn't have such a field as a community that doesn't love or is unappreciative of it's young athletes is simply ridiculous (and, by the way, is much more Clinton or Sanders-like than anything else here).
A friend of mine has asked me to compile a list of SETXsports schools who play on natural grass similar to that one I did for artificial turf and I am getting that together right now.  Who knows, it may bolster your case...in fact, it probably will.

Considering that until 9:00 pm last night Coach Jehling was still officially an employee of Lumberton ISD, I don't know that any one candidate has arisen.  However, I doubt that it will take Coach Babin long to get somebody in place.

Well, that last post was more of a tongue in cheek reference to another situation.  I thought you'd recognize that, but your somewhat emotional response to it indicates that you see turf as something that should be installed simply so that their fans can yell out to the world "Hey, we are 'spessel' we have turf."  Turf and indoor practice facilities and whatnot do not make a football program special or elite, it just makes it a program with a bunch of stuff.
The one thing that I did mean in that last post is that I would love to see field turf in West Orange.  However, I trust the members of the board of trustees, all of whom can be seen at Mustang football games on a regular basis and one of which is a former Mustang starting QB and has a son who was a member of this year's state championship squad, when they say that currently the West Orange-Cove CISD can not afford this luxury.  And let's be clear, no matter how heartily you think that every program should have field turf...it IS a luxury.

Schools in 4A and lower are not allowed to have spring practice outside of school hours.

Anytime young people doing something positive you have to congratulate them! 

I started this thread to congratulate two student athletes that have earned scholarships. Not to discuss and bash coaching playoff success. It does seem odd to me though that some on this site are like a broken record. I believe Coach Harrison is 4-16 over the last two years with no playoffs and several D-1 players. In the four years that Flannigan has been at WB he has an overall record that is .500 and only made the playoffs twice witch both games were blowout losses.So does that mean WB and PA also have circus like practices? Also Central did have one D-1 player, Whaley that went to Arkansas. CE King had atleast two, RB that went to A&M and the QB went to Tulane and the final score was 32-31. So if Central would have held on and won would that have meant that Coach Price has circus like practices? This thread was meant to spotlight and congratulate kids not to grind personal axes against certain coaches. So if you want to do that please start your own thread.

I couldn't agree more.  I understand that everyone has their view on who should, or for that matter who should not, be the next head football coach at their favorite program.  Heck, I vividly remember doing so in support of Coach Thompson when the WO-S job was open.  As long as the debate doesn't take on a personal nature, that healthy debate is part of the process.
However, once the decision is made by the board, the time for such debate is over and that coach, be it Coach Dale, Coach Jehling or any other candidate, needs the support of the community, the entire community!  To continue the debate over who should be head coach past that point only serves to undermine that coach and bring harm to the very program, as well as the youngsters in that program, that you claim to support.  If that coach leaves not have delivered desired results, there will plenty of time and room for "I told you so" posts.
 

Well, let's back the train up a little bit. I don't know know if you are trying to say that the purchase of a turf field is a one time only cash outlay, because if you are, both you and I know that is not the case.  These fields, like their grass counterparts, need regular maintenance (usually by a professional company as the school districts have no one with the expertise to do so) and replacement (just ask the folks over in Port Neches who had to rip up their new Reservation turf after only one year and replace it).  Now, I won't disagree that maintenance costs probably decrease with the insertion of a turf field, but to imply that there are none feeds the same ignorance that you decry.
I will agree with you that in some cases such an expenditure is necessary and the example that you give in Silsbee is a prime one.  There are some cases where it makes sense in order to preserve facilities that are already in place.  Silsbee and West Orange-Stark chewed that field up back in 2009 and many feel that field is just beginning to recover...some think it still hasn't.  Cases like that call for a need for a new turf.
I would caution against lauding the carrot of playoff venue revenue as a payment for any artificial turf.  Aside from BISD, can you name me a school district east of the Trinity that has hosted a playoff game after installing turf?  Although I am certainly subject to correction on this, I can't recall one.
There are many legitimate benefits to converting to a "field turf" field.  It is just that the ability to crow "Hey, look at us! We have turf!" isn't one of them.
