I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that I am currently in Hermann Memorial in Houston awaiting a possible go on a heart and kidney transplant. The bad news is if that surgery goes off as planned, I will probably not be able to start the Team Previews on Monday as I had planned. I'll keep you advised.

I believe DCTF has tabbed them as the runner up in 11-4A-I. The Falcons have 7 on offense, 6 on defense.

You just had to brag, didn't you! LOL!

For several years, a man was having an affair with an Italian woman. One night, she confided in him that she was pregnant. Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage, he said he would pay her a large sum of money if she would go to Italy to secretly have the child. Furthermore, if she stayed in Italy to raise the child, he would also provide child support until the child turned 18. She agreed, but asked how he would know when the baby was born. To keep it discreet, he told her to simply mail him a post card, and write 'Spaghetti' on the back. He would then arrange for the child support payments to begin. One day, about 9 months later, he came home to his confused wife. 'Honey, she said, 'you received a very strange post card today.' 'Oh, just give it to me and I'll explain it later,' he said. The wife obeyed and watched as her husband read the card, turned white, and fainted. On the card was written: "Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti. One with meatballs, two without. Send extra sauce."

New district mates PN-G and Crosby ranked in the top 10.

purpleeagle, you know how it is. How many times at this part of the year have you heard, "We've got something for Newton this year" Yet this happens: That being said, based on what Coach Thompson has provided me in preparation for the previews, I'd have to venture that the #1 ranking in 4A, DII given to the Mustangs is based a bit more on a look backwards rather than a look forward and that the #1 ranking is a favor that he could have been done without. -

I called Barnes an Noble in Beaumont on Friday and they didn't have them yet. I think I saw Matt Stepp say that they should be in stores this week.

Playoff home-field for 4A and below
WOSgrad replied to DannyShapiroBE's topic in High School Football
Actually, yeah: [Hidden Content] From the article: "Cornel Thompson doesn't want to play at home in the playoffs, and neither do his players at Class 4A West Orange-Stark, he said. While Johnston wants to reward his Newton players with a home playoff game, Thompson said the opposite is true at WO-S. "Our kids look forward to going somewhere with a bigger stadium," Thompson said. "Plus, we have a grass field and we don't want to get caught up in a mud game or bad conditions that time of year.' That's easy.....West Orange-Stark. Had the measure passed I think that we can all safely surmise that WO-S would have had the opportunity to host a bi-district playoff game. However, Coach Thompson has been pretty vocal about his opposition to this measure, chiefly due to the fact that he does not feel that the turf at Hooks Stadium is of the quality sufficient to host a playoff game. -
He got Mathis into the playoffs as a fourth place team the last couple of years, but fell at the bi-district round.

Yes, it is policy and results that matter to blacks. For too long the Democrat party has relied on the monolithic viewpoint of these folks which was illustrated by none other than Lyndon Johnson when with his aides on Air Force once crowed, "with this welfare, we are gonna have them n*****rs voting for Democrats for the next 200 years!" Since then, democratic policies have failed minorities which is causing them to gravitate toward Republican policies. It is the Democrat party that is using identity politics, a tactic that is failing more and more by the day.

Then, jim. After this post, I really don't understand your ire. Is it that Danny posted the link to the story here? If that is what upset you, it begs the question, do you really believe that no one on this board would have run across the story had he not done that? The Beaumont Enterprise is the only daily newspaper in Southeast Texas with a circulation area that nearly rivals the reach of this site. Heck, I look at the sports section on a daily basis myself. Given Blain's athletic achievements and his sudden unexplained passing, I think it likely that if Danny had not posted the link here, someone else on this message board would have. Did Danny do it to get a few more internet hits on a article written by the paper that employs him? Yeah, I am sure that he did. In fact, chances are good that he would cop to that as I have never known a media guy that is not above that. And I'll even go so far as agreeing that sometimes that might not be the appropriate thing to do. Was it necessary in this case? I guess we disagree here but I do find your point of view reasonable. However, where completely I disagree with you is the implication that Danny posted this link here to put a dagger in the memory of Blain. No report that the Enterprise, KTRK Channel 13 in Houston, or any other media entity publishes can do that. I do join you for continued prayers for Mical and the Padgett family. He may not remember me from our days at Lamar, but I certainly remember him. And when he pledges to get to the bottom of how Blain got this substance, I know that he will use every resource to fulfill that pledge.

I understand that you are upset and believes the article puts some sort of necessary stain on Blain. But let me ask you this, did you believe that the toxicology and autopsy results of the sudden and unexplained death of a star college football player who played in, of all places, the fourth largest city in the United States would go unreported by the media altogether? If so, let me shatter your illusion: [Hidden Content] Look, I myself have railed on the limits of newsworthiness of any act beyond the football field, good or bad. And I will confess that many times the target of such railings have been the staff at the Enterprise. But I think your ire at the Enterprise in this case is a bit misplaced. First, the idea that if Matt Faye wouldn't have published his article, that the autopsy reports would have been Harris County and the Padgett family's little secret is a foolhardy one. Second, the explanation of why an otherwise healthy 21 yr old football player died suddenly is indeed a newsworthy story. The coroner's report, the Enterprise report or the Houston TV station's report do not change the fact that Blain Padgett was a good young man who came from a good family. Instead of getting upset with the media for reporting it, you should hope, as I do, that authorities and the Padgett family (as they have pledged to do) find how Blain came across this substance so that justice can be done and his death will not have been in vain.
