2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS MONSIGNOR KELLY BULLDOGS 2019 Record: 8-2 Record, 2-1 District The Kelly Bulldogs continued their resurgence under the guidance of head coach Jason Smith in 2019 as the Bulldogs bulled their way to a 8-2 record...Kelly's biggest win total in eight years. The Bulldogs seem well positioned to continue that progress as ten offensive starters and five starting defenders return for the 2020 season. COACHING Head Coach: Jason Smith (Offensive Coordinator) Assistant Coaches: Clint Hartsfield (Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator), Jesse Sparks (Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers), Nick Rizzotto (Defensive Line), Andrew Washington (Defensive Line), Donald Redmond (Secondary), Kasey Nonette (Quarterbacks) OFFENSE Ten starters return to the Kelly offense in 2020. Senior quarterback Dayne Seay (66-124, 1003 yd, 9 TD) returns to guide the Bulldog offense but expect senior Braden Sheldon, junior Gage Peterson and sophomore Jaxson Sheldon to receive time behind center as well. The Bulldogs return a wealth of experience as senior running back Dajuan Espree (2nd team all-district, 66 carries 447 yd, 8 TD) and junior back Justin Maze (2nd team all-district, 105 carries, 798 yd, 6 TD) return. Seniors Gerard Bradley and Aiden Prudhomme join sophomore receiver Carter Holmes on the outside. The offensive line will again be stout as seniors Eric Renfro, Jack Montalbano, and Eli Andel, as well as juniors Nic Stacey and Garrett Roesler, all return. DEFENSE Five starters return to the Bulldog 4-3 defense in 2020. Plenty of time will be devoted to finding new members of the front line as three linemen moved out of the system after last season. Espree (2nd team all-district) will lead things at linebacker. The secondary will be a strength on the defensive side of the ball as Peterson, Maze, senior Jaden Bertrand and junior Anish Doshi will patrol the Bulldog secondary. Bradley, Prudhomme and Holmes will also be counted on there. SPECIAL TEAMS Junior Adam Brasher will handle the place kicking while Seay will handle the punting. Maze will be the primary kick returner. I will be very curious to see where the influx came from to convince the powers that be at CCS to reopen.
-
Well, remember with the championship games, we are talking late December at the earliest.....with a growing possibility of January or even February. If the pandemic at that time is still to point that these stadiums hold that same policy, the likelihood will be that it is a moot point. Just one thing to also consider, Jerry Jones never met a spotlight that he didn't like.
-
You were correct about that. Earlier in the year, CCS had determined that they were closing the 9-12 grades. After you had posted that earlier I had confirmed that with Bryan Rawlins, who was the CCS football coach last year. And I had seen on another site that Chester, who was slated to be CCS' Week 1 opponent, was looking for an alternate game because the school they were going to play was "closing its high school." I, too, had worked as if that was the case until about a week ago when bobcatfan4life told me that he heard that they had reversed that decision, were continuing their 9-12 instruction and that they planned to play 6man football this season. That was confirmed by the posts that txprepfan pointed me to on another site.

More and more, I agree that a late start will be the option. The UIL does not want to lose it's cash cow, which is the State Championships at AT&T so I don't know that will be considered as an option. But the first week of the regular starting on August 28th, I just can't see it. We sit here on June 26th, and today the Texas Department of Health reported 5,707 new cases of COVID-19 and that the number of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 is at 5,102. Hopefully, the rollbacks which began today will stem the tide of positives and (more importantly hospitalizations). However, even if wildly successful, the effect of that will probably not be seen for close to a month. That puts us right around August 3rd. August 3rd, for folks who don't know, is the scheduled date for preseason football training camp to begin for UIL schools (yeah, two a days). I don't know that the UIL will be comfortable with starting team activities right around the time that the tide is "slated" to be stemmed. Yes, the death rate is indeed dropping. It was about 2.7% when the reopening began and sits at just under 1.7% now. But agree or disagree, right or wrong, the positives are what is driving the current policy and I don't know that policy is going to allow the football season to start on time. Yet, I will prepare for it to. I hereby certify that all of the schedules that I have posted and all of the previews (which still will go off as scheduled) that I will post have been duly sanitized and I promise that I exercised social distancing during the typing of them and washed my hands for at least 20 seconds afterwards.

Wow. My disagreement over the district changing a name of a team is interpreted as support for the Confederate flag (which I don't). Folks, Exhibit 1 as to why nothing regarding race will ever be solved has just been submitted. -
As I discussed with txprepfan via dm. The plan is to play football this year. CCS administration has told the coach that he can follow through only if he has 10 kids commit to the team, which as of right now he is a few short.

Carl, I was told of this by bobcatfan4life last week, but didn't act on it until today. I call CCS trying to get to someone with knowledge of the goings on but was not successful. I will try with their head coach last year and see what I can get from him.

Is this true? End of an Era at WO-S
WOSgrad replied to Baba Ganoush32's topic in High School Football
It is a little more than that. I had a chance to get this from a friend. It is the poem that gave rise to the Chain Gang: "I wear a link around my neck A simple reminder to me Of the fact that I am a team member No matter where I may be. That small link is not magic Nor is it a good luck charm It isn't meant to protect me From every physical harm. It's simply an understanding Between my teammates and me. When I look down at my chest And the silver oval I do see I know it's there to remind me Of what team member should be. It links me to the team. It links me to the school. It is a constant reminder That there is no place for a fool. So I wear this link around my neck To remind me many a time That a man without conviction Isn't worth a simple dime." The Chain Gang, as it was used in the defensive unit at West Orange-Stark High School, was a phrase of brotherhood and unity. I have seen several on social media during this time of strife indicate that the best solution of unity can be found in a high school football locker room. Rather than doing that, the WO-C CISD decided to toss a hand grenade in it. That is what bothers me most of all. Although, as I stated previously, I remain confident that Mustang defense will be the same whether you call them the Chain Gang, the Blue Link or the Pink Vaginas, a very small part of me wonders what effect this episode will have when the Mustangs hit the field. -

He probably thinks.....and I imagine that Cornel Thompson thinks the same......that they don't give a rat's rear end of what their defense is called. As long as they work, they hit and they pursue. As far as your suggestion, no, no and no. I am going to treat the WO-C CISD changing the name of the Mustang defense the same as I did when Beaumont ISD named their football stadium the Carroll A. "Butch" Thomas Educational Support Center and when they changed it Beaumont ISD Memorial Stadium. I will abide by the actions of a duly selected board of trustees' decision even though I may not agree with it. I have seen enough opinions of folks I grew up with and have respect for who have a beef with the name. While I disagree that they should, the angst is widespread enough as to indicate that it is not just the view of a loud few. So, in official written content, I will not refer to the Mustang defense as "The Chain Gang" choosing probably just to refer to the Mustang defense as simply that, the Mustang defense. For as Shakespeare once wrote; "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet..." And that which we call a Mustang defense by any other name is just as nasty. -

2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS BURKEVILLE MUSTANGS 2019 Record: 0-9 Overall, 0-5 District 6th Place in District 12-2A-II The youth of the Burkeville Mustangs definitely showed in 2019 as 12 of the 18 men on the Mustang roster were experiencing high school football for the very first time. The result of that was predictable as the Mustangs failed to pick up a single win. The young Mustang team suffered another blow in March as junior-to-be quarterback (as well as 2nd team all-district linebacker) Dewight Fowler was lost in an automobile accident. But Burkeville is a prideful and supportive community and Coach Eric Williams, who returns eight starters on each side of the ball, looks to take the youngsters, now a year more experienced, to compete for a playoff spot. COACHING Head Coach: Eric Williams Assistant Coach: Richard Bottini (Defensive Coordinator), Terrell Cuney (Offensive Coordinator), Mark Crorey (Special Teams/Middle School Coordinator) OFFENSE Eight starters return to the Mustang offense in 2020. I was that administrator and here is why. After our conversation, I reached out to several of my journalism friends in Orange, including Gary Stelly at KOGT, who assured me that, at that time, they had received no directive from the WO-C CISD to avoid calling the Mustang defense the Chain Gang. Thus, this would have been pursuing a topic in open forum about an action that the school district that had not taken. -
