2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS WOODVILLE EAGLES 2019 Record: 4-6 Overall; 3-4 District 5th Place in District 12-3A-I The 2019 Woodville Eagles, which started seven freshmen, found themselves in an unusual position as they failed to make the Class 3A, Division II playoffs for the first time since 2014. While the Eagles will still be somewhat young in 2020 (five starters return on offense and eight on defense) but return enough experience to compete for a playoff spot out of District 12-3A-I. COACHING Head Coach: Ty Robinson Assistant Coaches: Brandon Craus (Assistant Head Coach/Wide Receivers), Seth Hubbard (Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks), Wood McClendon (Offensive Line), Stephen Ehler (Running Backs), Dustin Metting (Wide Receivers), Randy Williams (Defensive Tackles), Brad Evans (Defensive Ends), Derek Peveto (Inside Linebackers), Taylor James (Outside Linebackers), Brandon Helm (Safeties) OFFENSE Five starters return to the Eagle double wing offense in 2020. Darius Bean will step in to take over the quarterback position. Junior running back Kevon Paire will join him in the backfield. Sophomore wide out Kam Wyatt will lead a receiver corp which will also include wide outs Lloyd Evans and Jalen Kibble. Senior tight ends Kyler Coleman and Demetrius Brown return to action along with junior Linus Mannino. Senior lineman Jack Gore returns to lead an offensive line which will feature center Tyler Hatton and junior offensive tackle Brayden Lilley. DEFENSE Eleven starters return to the Woodville 3-4 defense in 2020. Sophomore nose tackle Braylon Rigsby, senior defensive tackle D'Quincy Wise (1st team all-district), junior defensive end Pop Prejean (1st team all-district) and sophomore Tre Harris all return. Junior inside linebacker Nick Traylor and senior inside linebacker Jacorey Hyder (both 2nd team all-district) will be joined by senior linebacker Marcus Wagner as well as linebacker Logan Brush and sophomore linebacker Tim Flebbe. Sophomore safeties Kaden Williams and Lane Ferguson, along with senior cornerbacks Ronald Washington and Ethan Porter, will patrol the Eagle secondary with sophomore Jatavion Taylor also contributing. 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS NEDERLAND BULLDOGS 2019 Record: 4-7 Overall; 4-3 District 4th Place in District 12-5A-II In 2019, the Nederland Bulldog football program fought it's way to its way to their third playoff berth in a row. In 2020, District 12-5A-II will have a bit of a different look and will have some more new faces of their own as five starters return on offense and six come back on defense. COACHING Head Coach: Monte Barrow Assistant Coaches: Chris Theriot (Defensive Coordinator), Jody Walker (Defensive Line), Tony Tolbert (Linebackers), Jay Stone (Outside Linebackers), Mike Todd (Defensive Backs), Brett Brown (Defensive Backs), Michael Broussard (Running Backs), Bryan Spell (Wide Receivers), Jae Stoker (Offensive Line), Dan Welch (Offensive Line) OFFENSE Five starters return to the 2 Back 3 Wide offense. Returning to the Bulldog backfield will be senior running backs Josh Mazyck (1st team all-district) and Kade Scott. Also spending time in the backfield will be senior Beau Seymour. Senior wide receiver Rene Cunningham (who may also see time at quarterback) and receiver Kyndon Fuselier (12-5A-II Co-Newcomer of the Year) will lead the receiver corp. Junior lineman Mike Marshall will lead an offensive line which will also include seniors Jack McGuire, Matthew Gill and Kendall Roye, as well as Holden Craver. DEFENSE Six starters return to the Nederland 3-3-5 defense in 2020. Junior defensive tackle Ricky Johnson (1st team all-district) and senior Jose Fuentes return to guide the Bulldog offensive line. Junior outside linebacker Jaice Beck (1st team all-district) and senior Kerrington Broussard will line up at linebacker. Fuselier and senior safety Evan Whitehead will anchor a defensive backfield that will also include senior Lance Nicolasora and junior Steven Bourgious. SPECIAL TEAMS Senior Payne Barrow will handle the place kicking duties. Fusilier will be the primary kick returner. It is my understanding that Caney Creek will now be on their 3rd head coach in 3 years. That probably gives a LOT of insight as to why Coach Barrier is in Hardin. He will never speak ill of Conroe ISD as he doesn't appear to be that type of guy, but as my buddy Soulja often says "You do the math."

2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS ANAHUAC PANTHERS 2019 Record: 5-6 Overall; 5-2 District 3rd Place in District 12-3A-I The Anahuac Panthers had a successful year in new coach Greg Neece's first year as the Panthers reached the Class 3A, Division I playoffs for the 1st time since 2016. The Panthers look primed to head back to the playoffs in 2020 as eight starters return on each side of the ball. COACHES Head Coach: Greg Neece Assistant Coaches: Steve Fentress (Defensive Coordinator) OFFENSE Eight starters return to the Anahuac Multiple Wing T offense in 2020. Sophomore quarterback Landon Corbitt (2nd team all-district at running back) will move over to take over the quarterback position. Senior running back Landon Fanus (1st team all-district, 894 rushing yards, 7 TD rushing, 150 yd receiving, 4 TD) will shoulder the rushing load. Junior wide receiver Zion Clark (1st team all-district, 28 catches 586 yd, 5 TD) will be joined by senior wide out Terrell Cargo and senior tight end Wyatt Gates to form the Panther receiver corp. Junior offensive tackles Eli Burns (2nd team all-district) and Jonathan Cooper return to a line which will also feature senior guard Logan Lotz and senior center Carter Newell and senior Kevin Hernandez. DEFENSE Eight starters return to the Anahuac defense in 2020. Senior nose guard Logan DeHoyos will anchor a defensive line which will include Gates and junior tackle Caden Hampton. Two year starter Cade Dye will line up at linebacker along with Hernandez. Clark (1st team all-district at safety) will anchor a secondary that will also include Cargo. Nope, they had started again last Wednesday. A second student's parent notified WO-S that he had tested positive on Friday. They were originally going to continue S&C workouts and just quarantine the athletes and coaches in the positive student's group. But today, they decided to shut everything down 'til July 13th.

2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS CLEVELAND INDIANS 2019 Record: 0-10 Overall; 0-7 District 8th Place in District 11-5A-II The past few years have been one of flux for the Cleveland Indians. Due to the population explosion Cleveland has jumped from a 4A school to the largest classification in Class 5A. Also, the coaching situation has been constantly changing as Jason Fiacco takes over as the third Indian head coach in three years. Fiacco inherits six starters on offense and five starters on defense to compete in District 8-5A-I. 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS COLMESNEIL BULLDOGS 2019 Record: 2-7 Overall; 1-4 District 5th Place in District 12-2A-II 2019 was a rough year for coach Cody Day and the Colmesneil Bulldogs as his young crew struggled to a 2-7 record and garnering only 1 district win. But last year's youth turns into a veteran squad as the Bulldogs return eight starters on each side of the ball in an effort since 2017. COACHING Head Coach: Cody Day Assistant Coaches: Coleman Butter, Caleb Hardy, Kevin Anderson, Justin Hilliard, Mike Tanton OFFENSE Eight starters return to the Colmenseil offense in 2020. Senior quarterback Jordan James will return to lead the Bulldog offense. He will have a bevy of returning receivers as sophomore receiver Reed Best, junior wide out Treston Horton and senior tight end Andrew Byrd all come back. A veteran offensive line returns as senior guards Evan Stewart (2nd team all-district) and McKenzie Davis, junior center Koyler Marshall (1st team all-district) and junior tackle Jay Johnson will all come back. Tyler Johnston, Garrett Darder, Carl Jenkins and Dallen Pate are also expected to contribute to the passing and rushing game. DEFENSE Eight starters return to the Colmesneil 3-4 defense in 2020. Stewart and Marshall come back to lead the defensive line. James and junior Scott Eddins will be among those lining up at linebacker. 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS KOUNTZE LIONS 2019 Record: 1-8 Overall; 0-5 District 6th Place in District 12-3A-II 2019 was a rough year for the Kountze Lions as the youngsters from north Hardin County took their lumps to the tune of a 1-8 season. But in Kountze, they are youngsters no more as nine of last year's offensive starters and eight returning defenders take the field in a bid to capture a playoff spot for Kountze for the first time since 2014. COACHING Head Coach: Todd Paine Assistant Coaches: Chris McFarlane (Defensive Coordinator), Gary Brewton (Offensive Coordinator), Brady Byars (Offensive Line/Linebacker), Chris Dumas (Wide Receivers/Defensive Backs), Mark McCoy (Running Backs/Linebackers), Brandon Hillin (Defensive Backs/Wide Receivers) OFFENSE Nine starters return to the Lion spread offense in 2020. Returning to guide the offense will be junior quarterback Hunter Read. Joining him in the backfield will be junior running back Demond Hamilton. Junior wide out Zach Paine leads a receiver corp which will feature senior receivers Matt Walters and A.J. Richardson. They will be joined outside by junior Blayne Roebuck. A nearly intact offensive line also returns as senior Taylor Jones and juniors David Cowart, Johnny Cowart and Noah Thomas (2nd team all-district) all come back. Look for sophomore James Whiteside and junior Angel Raya to also get time on the line. DEFENSE Eight starters return to the Kountze 3-3-5 defense in 2020. Junior defensive ends Trenton Phillips and Dawson Williford will lead things on the defensive line. Senior Matt Walters (2nd team all-district at linebacker in 2019) will anchor a Lion secondary which will also include Paine, Hamilton and junior Kobyn Freeman. 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS LUMBERTON RAIDERS 2019 Record: 7-4 Overall; 3-2 District Co-Runner Up in District 11-4A-I The Lumberton Raiders have capped off a couple of seasons with back to back appearances in the area round for the first time in school history. To extend that streak to three in a row, coach Chris Babin will count on six starters on both sides of the ball returning to fight for the playoffs in new look District 10-4A-I. Senior Clay Jenkins will not only help in the rushing game but he will lead the Raider receiver corp which will be fueled by senior tight end Cullen Flowers, senior wide out Hunter Fesco and junior receiver Trevor Hataway. Junior lineman Cade McKinstry returns to lead a line which will also feature senior linemen Prashant Kumar, Edgar Sapon and Cayden Bayless. DEFENSE Six starters return to the Lumberton 4-2-5 in 2020. Kumar and senior Bo Stucker return to the defensive line where he will be joined by Hataway and junior Hunter Neff. Senior Cade Danna (2nd team all-district) and junior outside linebacker Dakota Duran return to man to the linebacker position where juniors Colton Orr and Jacob Humble will also be expected to contribute. Jenkins and Fesco will anchor a Raider secondary that will also feature senior Gabe Williams and Noah Domingue. SPECIAL TEAMS Senior Aldo Salinas will do the place kicking for Lumberton. 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS KINGWOOD PARK PANTHERS 2019 Record: 6-5 Overall; 5-2 District 3rd Place in District 9-5A-I The 2019 Kingwood Park Panthers extended their playoff streak to three years as they fought to a third place finish in District 9-5A-I. There will be some changes for coach Clayton Maple and the Panthers. First, they will be competing in Class 5A, Division II, but District 12 will be a stout parachute to jump into. COACHING Head Coach: Clayton Maple Assistant Coaches: Kyle Grimes (Assistant Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator/Wide Receivers), Mark Miller (Defensive Coordinator/Secondary), Bruce Cox (Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks), Dominique Allen (Offensive Line), Chris Buechner (Running Backs), Jeff Knight (Defensive Line), James Showers (Insider Linebackers), Oscar Vargas (Outside Linebackers) OFFENSE Six starters return to the Panther offense in 2020. Senior running back Brandon Acosta (2nd team all-district) will lead the rushing attack with senior Juan Garcia also getting some time in the running game. The receiver corp will be young as sophomore wide outs Hayden Bender and Patrick Overmyer will lead the way. They will get help from senior H-back Brady Cole and sophomore Joseph Johnson. Sophomore lineman Erick Zapata (2nd team all-district) and sophomore Erik Contreras will be counted on to lead the Panther offensive line. 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS RUSK EAGLES 2019 Record: 3-8 Overall; 3-1 District 7-4A-II Co-Champions 2019 was a tale of two seasons as the Rusk Eagles. The pre-district slate saw the Eagles go winless. However, when district play came around, Rusk took 3 of their 4 district contests to tie for the district title. Although the chances of a repeat seemed long given the inexperience of the returning team (4 starters on each side of the ball) and moving to an extremely tough district, they received a boost with the hiring of Thomas Sitton, who earned a state championship with Tyler Chapel Hill in 2011 and comes off of 3 years as the defensive coordinator at Converse Judson! COACHING Head Coach: Thomas Sitton Assistant Coaches: Hunter Ramsey (Defensive Coordinator), Clint Harper (Offensive Coordinator) OFFENSE Four starters return to the Eagle spread offense in 2020. Senior quarterback Landon Gates will again by counted on to lead the Rusk offense. Senior running back Alex Jones (2nd team all-district) will join him in the backfield with senior back Camdon Hudnall and sophomore Tarrant Sunday also getting carries. Senior receivers Joseph McGowan (1st team all-district) and Isiah Ward (2nd team all-district) join junior wide out Chris Lawson to form the core of the Eagle receiver squad.
