The complaint is not about PN-g.

The complaint is about an official having a conflict of interest or appearing to have one.

If he would have excused himself from the game there would not be and discussion about this.

Y'all can thank him for the distraction next time you get you teeth cleaned by him or you see him at the local DQ or Marketbasket.

    This.....

  2. This grievance will go nowhere.....The local referee in question didn't get a knock on his hotel door at 10 am that morning with his assignment to officiate said game. He knew well ahead of time what game his crew would be officiating.  He also had to think at some point this could be a bad situation to put not only himself but his team and community in. You know take the high road, do the right thing and bow out. He chose other wise. I would be willing to bet it was an oversight on several levels that created this situation. At the end of the day he, imo was no way a factor in SOC losing the game. jmo

Let me first remind that the Elite Status category is mine.  In everything I've done my standards are a little higher than most.  Everyone here may have what constitutes Elite Status.  I'm sure there are some here that think a coach with a losing record is some-how Elite.  Maybe because he's a nice guy?  But, again, that's their prerogative.

So, the tenants in my Elite category are as follows:  Doug Ethridge, Tim Buchanan, Steve Suratt, Gordon Wood, Art Briles, Steve Wood, ETC.  Regarding Neuman, based on how bad Nederland was, and is, Neuman did an exceptional job -- per Nederland's standards!    But, did he achieve the same level of success that above mentioned coaches did?  Absolutely not.  Based on this backdrop, it drops him down to just a great coach.  But, on the other hand, did I think that Neuman had the ability to achieve this status.  Yes, I do think he did.  But the reason that he did not, my opinion, was that he had a blind spot that he wouldn't correct.  But, maybe he didn't think that needed correcting.  19 years and never made it to the big dance.  We can all make excuses why this never happened.  Maybe he just didn't have the "it" factor.  Or, maybe if he had just played lesser competition in the playoffs?!  Who knows?!  Well, I think I know.  But, again, my opinion!

Blind spot?   Do tell, I'm sure we would all love to know....

  4. Cant remember the exact numbers but, no matter your enrollment. If your district had teams with small enrollments the top 2 went regardless...We have similar numbers now and fall in the small school category. Summer Creek , Pearland Dawson, Georgetown , SV, Manvel were big school back then....Several more i cant think of off the top of my head. way different competition....imo

Ok, I know this is your opinion but I have a question:  Big school, small school?  Since they were playing each other, doesn't this mean that the schools enrollments are basically the same?  Seems like to me the UIL put them in a comparable classification.

Back then, top 4 teams went to playoffs....Largest two enrollments went big, other 2 small...if that answers your question?

OK, opinion time:  During the above mentioned time frame, at Nederland, even Neuman couldn't bring a team to the big dance.  Why do you suppose that is?!

Big school vs Small school route.....No way  11,12, 13, Nederland Teams would have fallen to Liberty Hill  had they drawn them in the semis.....Matchups....

  7. Lots of factors......Neumans 11,12,13 teams went big school. Faced Georgetown a couple times and Pearland Dawson. the 01 semifinal team lost to Smithson Valley in the Semis. They in turn lost to a Pretty salty SLC team in the SC game. Matchups mean alot. As we speak, there's no comparison in the coaching at the 2 schools. Joseph walked into a good roster, and turned it into a State Contender. Winning is contagious and everyone wants to be a part, therefore he's clearing the hallways and getting so many more to work with He's also developing these kids and doing a fantastic job. He also has the benefit of the small school route. Just my take.......
