Cary’s first goal will be to try and get the Buccaneers to the playoffs for the first time since 2012. There’s reason for optimism for the Bucs as seven starters are back on the offensive side of the ball led by speedy WR- Kade Bengston and QB- Issac Ponce. OL- Dawson Scott is a talented prospect up front and will anchor the offensive line. The strength of a young Brazoswood defense will be linebackers Croix Rivera and Ronnie Jones, who will anchor the front seven and will be counted on to provide senior leadership. Cary says the big question mark heading into 2022 will be inexperience along the defensive line. A good senior class has moved on, but there’s still enough talent in place that Deer should again challenge for a district title. The offense has some firepower returning with RB- Ernasmo Canales (743 yards, 14 TDs rushing), while WR- Hayden Smith (24-446, 4 TDs receiving) is expected to be the deep threat. The defense will get a big boost with the return of LB- Dino Demetriou, who suffered a season ending injury in Week 2 last year. DL- Luke Webb (16 tackles, 3 sacks) and DB- Tudi Gustave (29 tackles, 2 INTs) will be key returners for the defense. Coach Flynn says the big concern is breaking in a new quarterback and several new offensive linemen in 2022. DC Matt McDaniel is the only one of those 3 with legit exp. in the job he was hired to do. Mr. McDaniel had some very good defenses at Katy & his resume is legit, so the defensive scheme should be solid. I don't think the 1st time head coach & OC know the rivalry, atmosphere, & amount of smack that goes down in this type game, if they can handle all that then they got a chance

Can new PNG defense hold up vs. the size, athleticism, speed & fast paced offense of P.A? Offensive Master Mind Faircloth is gone. Pressure is on the new rookie coaching staff at PNG, rookie PNG OC that's never called plays vs. strong P.A. defense & P.A. coaching staff tired of hearing they choke in big games should lead to a P.A. win.... But you can never count out the Indian pride, tradition, fight & HOME field advantage at the Indian burial ground.

Orangefield has some nice size lads on both sides of the ball and some scrappy RBs that don't quit. Both teams had some long runs and both teams showed they could grind it down the field. Silsbee defense had two goal line stands, one ended in a fumble and one in a missed FG. Silsbee's offense was more consistent this scrimmage, blocking and running. IK it is a scrimmage but if Nederland is throwing 4 td passes & accumulating 300yds passing with no threat of a running game, those 6A squads might do more damage to WB secondary. WB offense had 2 solid RB's, 3 good WR's, a big TE & the QB looked sharp. WB O-line pass protected well & had some good run blocking. The 2 picks & fumble inside the redzone were negatives for the WB offense

2nd Half of scrimmage Westbrook 2 rushing TD’s Nederland 2 passing TD’s Nederland defense came up with 2 turnovers. A pick at the 1yd line by CB #24 & a fumble recovery at the Ned. 20 yd line #10 had a better 2nd half at QB, completed several nice passes on a couple of drives for 2 TD passes. A 30 yd TD pass to #6 Caywood & a 5 yd TD pass to #1 Barrow. 2nd half also had kicking game which #16 for Nederland had some nice deep kick offs, punts & made both xtra points Overall both teams look decent, both need some players to step up on both sides of the ball. Westbrook offense will need to score 60 a game to compete with the top 4 teams in their district. Nederland will need quite a few young players to consistently make plays on both side of the ball, play ball control offense & score , lights out defense, mistake free football & get some turnovers each game to get a playoff spot. Imo
