  1. I like the big back idea…problem with pollard is they overpaid him…he’s a FA but will likely want and get more than he’s worth and we should pay…for that reason, I’d let him walk.

overshown helps, but he’s undersized as well…they need some big, nasty run stuffers at LB and on the interior of that DL big time…they unfortunately need more of those than I think they can solve for in one year, but if McCarthy is truly going to autopsy the losses, that has to be a glaring hole…run defense

  2. They better figure out how to run the ball and conversely, stop the run on D…they haven’t been able to stop the run for years and you simply cannot compete for championships getting the ball crammed down your throat all game long and having the other team impose their physical will against you…this happens to Dallas routinely

it’s a microcosm of their overall soft natured culture, if you ask me…all flair and no substance…tons of talent, no real toughness to win and close big games and beat good teams…that starts at the top with what ownership creates and it will never change unless Jerrah makes a significant change in how he runs and builds the team…he got lucky with Jimmy Johnson (he didn’t really know what he was doing and hired a college buddy who happened to be great) and he hired Parcells when he was desperate to get a new stadium and couldn’t get the support coming off of 3 successive 5-11 seasons…these are the only times he has allowed anyone else to have control of “football” and each time, he eventually couldn’t stand it and screwed it up.

Jerry knows how to make money and build a brand, but he doesn’t know squat about how to build a winning football culture…worse yet, he thinks that he does and wont give up on the notion that he does…if you can’t tell, I am a Cowboy fan, but way past fed up with the Jones’…I don’t even get that upset when they choke anymore as it has become my expectation…I would be surprised if they actually won anything in the postseason

  3. correct and Vicor had a solid squad that year (went 3 rounds deep themselves, I believe) and Nederland handled them at Vidor...it was a different time and Nederland 2012 team did have to go big school because they were the 2nd largest school in the district to actually make the playoffs....Georgetown, which knocked Nederland out that year, had about a 700 student enrollment advantage over Nederland plus the added edge of GISD adding a 2nd HS that year but allowing seniors to stay with Georgetown if they chose to...they rolled out 70-80 kids for that game, whereas Nederland had about 35 healthy players by that time...the 2 teams who competed for the D2 title that year both had larger enrollments than Nederland and IMO, where beatable for the Dogs...that year along with 2000, were Nederland's best opportunities since 1975 to bring it home...it was just a different format and it is what it is...2012 was a fun season for the Dogs anyway...that squad was strong and had very few weak spots

The 2000 team was really good as well...they lost to eventual champ Bay City 6-0 and finished the game with the ball at the 1...BC had barely over 100 yards of offense in the game as Nederland's D was super stout as well...The Dogs missed scoring opportunities in the first half and ultimately BC won and went on the steamroll their next 2 opponents on the way to a state title...that team could easily have been state champs, but it wasn't to be

The 2001 team got hot at the right time and made a surprising run to the semis as well, before being outgunned by Smithson Valley, but that was a fun playoff run because it was so unexpected

  4. Negativity breeds negativity….those that do nothing but piss and moan, breed more of the same and it achieves absolutely zero except to make the community as a whole look bad, so congrats to all the complainers…what your doing seems to be working

for me, I’ll say this, congrats Dogs on a season that was better than the last one….movement in a positive direction is what I hoped for this year and it’s what happened….sometimes things don’t line up perfectly for you, you don’t have the numbers, the best talent, or the health…you deal with adversity…adversity doesn’t build character, it reveals it!!  These young men and this staff have persevered through it, despite adversity and frankly a lot of negativity from many in the community….hats off, those who handle it properly will be stronger for it…I hope those who were injured recover quickly, have a great off season, and look forward to a better 2024 season

    Go Dogs!!
