Just trying to figure out why all of the negativity towards Coach Stewart. In all of my dealings with the man, he has always been a straight shooter. He is obviously a great coach and motivator. Why speculate on why he is retiring. Does it really matter if he is retiring to go to Arkansas to take care of his mother, maybe he is getting a Head Coaching job in the great state of Razorbacks. Or, does it matter if he wanted to be the head coach at Dayton again and the Board said no? Or, does it really matter if he has decided to sail off into the sunset?

Wrong, wrong, wrong and still wrong. Three yards and a cloud of dust is garbage. You can NOT completely stop the teams in that District. Defense and ball control are not the way to go. Nobody with any sense will tell you that Southlake and Highland Park out athlete people. These are the type of kids on the Hill. Do NOT pigeon hole them because of the color of their skin or their academic abilities. This is the type of program where you can teach the kids highly intuitive concepts in the passing game and running game, be multiple and check plays at the line based on the fronts and coverage. You can take advantage of what the defense gives you because of the intelligence of the kids. Also, because of the financial advantage of the community, these kids will get the best individual coaching possible. If you commit to the passing game, you will have multiple kids with specialized training and receivers with great route running skills because the parents will seek out the extra coaching the high school staff can not give them because of UIL restrictions. Vision and progress, NOT turn back the clock to some OLD ways. Tried and failed.

Going about this all wrong, in my humble opinion. They really need someone without a pedigree. Somebody that can come in with some innovative ideas and really connect with the kids. Somebody with the personality and charisma to play the political game in the community, but a coach with a passion for coaching and some new ideas to inspire these kids to think differently about the Offensive side of the ball.

I have been told that the best scouting report is this... Call 3 minutes before the start of the game and claim bus failure.... Tell the UIL that you will not be able to make it, but thanks for the opportunity... It is a foregone conclusion that this might be the best team ever put together, other than the 05 USC Trojans..... If anyone doubts these comments please PM ole 14.2... He has stats that will prove these guys are the dominating team over the last 10 years across the state of Texas... He can also provide stats that any team within 15 miles of Jefferson County has wasted it's time even fielding a team throughout the year..... I myself, have currently started fundraising for the district to start a basket weaving association.. This will allow for us to jump start the BW trend and hopefully compete at something in the future.....

I'm an interested observer who wants the best for the Bears. I have a number of friends who live in the District and was just wondering where the Bear supporters were. Seems to me that LCM changes offenses too often and that they can't settle on what is best for the kids. They seem to be a boat without a sail, they cant determine a direction for the program and that screams lack of leadership.

I really think Lumberton would have had a better chance if Nederland had not lost last week. I think the loss to GCM will refocus Nederland and the fact that Lumberton is a playoff team will add another layer to the motivation for this game. Obviously, Nederland has been the better program and Lumberton is the upstart looking to earn some respect. I think they are very similar and Lumberton is probably trying to emulate Nederland and the road map for long term success.  I think Nederland wins this one, but not by a large number.
    Nederland 42
    Lumberton 35

i have nothing against Vidor, in fact I really think Jeff does a great job with the Slot-T. He goes against the grain in some aspects, running more 235 to the weak side than 234 strong, like most traditional Slot-T guys do. He attacks the weakness of the Defense like a good offensive coach should and puts his kids in great positions to have success. I think he has done the most he can with what he has and he gets everything out of his players. He is a good coach.
I have a problem with people bastardizing the facts. I know for a fact Jeff met with Randy Rowe in Livingston and Vidor has not "dominated: anybody, including Lumberton. Opinions are one thing, everybody is a "fan" of a team and can have an opinion or think their team or coach is the best. It is when people come on here spout untruths that I have to respond.

One of the many, many reasons I feel so sorry for coaches, and could never do it.  I would get fired year one.  Their jobs are literally dangling by the production of teenagers, and the feelings of parents/board members.  It isn't a coincidence I'm so quick to defend coaches on this site as often as I do.  Plus they're all the while balancing all of that with the fact that they have to teach all day, deal with discipline issues, missed practices, bad practices, other teachers, grades...wow.
People are so stupid.  A good coach has the ability to change the mindset of a player.  Make them work harder than they normally would, make them believe they are capable of beating anyone, get the absolute most out of a kid/team, even impact the future of their players by transforming then into productive citizens when their parents couldn't.
But...no matter how good of a coach they may be.  If the other team's fastest player is faster than your fastest player, the other team's biggest player is bigger than yours, the other team's strongest player is stronger than yours, and the other teams best player is better than yours...it may not matter how good of a coach you are.  But parents don't want to hear that.  Literally...shaking my head.

Oh, you would be surprised. Yes, all coaches want to win. But, most coaches want to win their way. I have seen way too many coaches lose because they are too bull headed to change or evolve or even consider that another offense or defense might be better suited to the kids they have.

I am going to agree with this post on one hand and disagree with it on the other.
Yes, we should all be respectful of the coaches in this area, because all of them have paid their dues and earned the opportunity to lead their respective programs how they see fit. They were hired to do a job, and that job is to produce the best quality football teams they possibly can.
Now, with that being said, healthy, productive criticism is sometimes warranted and necessary. Coaches are not gods, they are not omnipotent and without faults. Sometimes they have their own agenda and do not make decisions that are in the best interest of the kids as a whole. When these times arise, I think it is our right as observers to point these issues out.
High School football is about the kids, the schools and the communities. Sometimes, coaches put their own agendas in front  of the best interest of the kids, schools and communities. Those coaches need to be exposed for what they are and this public forum is sometimes the best place to educate the masses on these issues.
