Stupid for anybody to think that the athletes at WOS couldn't play at Crosby. Speed and athleticism translates to every level. WOS skill kids have those thinks in abundance.
Now, what does Westbrook have coming back?

I agree 100%. This should not be a short term, shot in the dark hire. I think there needs to be some fresh ideas and a new approach, so an outside hire is probably the way to go. But, with that being said, it needs to be a hire where there is long term commitment and at least the desire to stay until Championships are won. And not just district championships.

If you are going to win Championships then discipline is a must. Silsbee has enough talent, size, speed and athletes overall that they should have 22 starters and probably 19 or 20 finishers. No need for a bunch of kids to play both ways and on special teams.

I do hope the new Coach whether it be an inside guy or not does take a stronger stand on discipline.  It will be a hard fight but it will be for the better.  I do know in one big game this year there was one stance made and I was glad to see it.  As far as conditioning, I know it could be better but think it looked somewhat worse due to the time our defense stayed on the field and the number of players playing both sides of the ball.  I am interested to see the list when it's released.

I just hope it's not a retread head coach with a losing record or just above .500 record. If you can't hit a home run with a big time proven winner of a head coach, then go with a passionate, enthusiastic, coordinator that has a huge upside.

I agree with you 100% and I think you are spot on in your analysis of the situation. The one thing you do not hit on, and I think the overriding factor in this thread being pulled, is that it was about SILSBEE. If it had been about any other school, especially a BISD school, there is no way it would have been pulled. Silsbee and WOS are treated with kid gloves. I love this site too and hope the admin doesn't block or ban me, but sometimes the public needs to hear thinks that are uncomfortable for some individuals to hear. And peoples opinions are ok, as long as it doesn't cross the line of slander.

Here is my take about the removal guys...I realize this is a privately owned site and does not have to allow all points of view or positions, but guys it's just that that brings viewership to the site and in turn drives advertising to support the site...I have a pretty deep background in media and you are walking a tight rope here. When you are employed by a public entity like an ISD and you are a Head Coach...well being thrust into the public eye is just part of the gig. When the cameras show up on Friday night after a big win and you are praised...well that too is part of the gig. I don't think any media source should allow  slanderous things to be published or broadcast about them or those they love. Race is part of life and that discussion will always be around and shuttering it is worse than the discussion. So if the reason for pulling the thread was because of slander by a member than the thread should have been taken down and that individual should have been kicked off the site. But know the definition of slander???Be right in your judgement. Be careful because censorship is dangerous especially if it is selective. Once again this is a privately owned site that is open to the public and it uses public issues to attract members and participants and income. I love this site and I have respect for its owner and administrators but once again I raise caution to the direction and tone you are setting if the reason for dumping the thread was not derived from slanderous behavior. JMO and please I mean absolutely no disrespect.

I guess we can agree to disagree on that one.
I found in informative and enlightening.
We had local people with information none of us were aware of and friends and former co-workers of the recently departed coach with insight that none us "outsiders" can have.

$12 million is what the indoor facility cost. We also have a new scoreboard and sound system being bought. Basketball just bought a new scoreboard and rumor is Nike is about to be part of BH. Getting rid of the ugly uniforms.  Lol

The staff definitely has a hand in getting him where he's trying to go, I think Crosby does it the right way. I even got a text from one of his coaches about that specific issue last week. To a man though, I would tell you he would be a better player at his age if we lived 10 miles down the road in North Shore no matter who the coach was or what the facilities looked like. However, when we went to the opening of the stadium and watched the fireworks and the parachute guy fly in he looked over and said "I can't wait to score touchdowns in this stadium". He even mentioned watching himself run on the replay screen like the pros do, so I think the bells and whistles do give him motivation.
As far as keeping up with the Jones' and the overspending, I fully agree with that. I haven't directly heard anything around town but I'm willing to bet you a paycheck there's someone from Crosby looking into what it would cost to put up the same type of facility BH just built. If you have to leverage yourself to keep up then it's not worth it, but you dang well better see what it cost to keep from falling behind too.

Who said anything about spending 20 million for a dozen kids to get scholarships? All we did was pay a coach and signed 40. Crosby used to have the crappiest stadium in the district. Now that we have a coaching staff in place and renovated the stadium so that more people can attend, the football program alone probably brought in $50,000+ per Friday night. So spending money on athletics grossed Crosby ISD a quarter million dollars in the first semester alone, and I would imagine that's on the low end. So the district is getting a return on it's investment. That's just in addition to the dozens of kids we've signed across the board in all sport recently.
I did happen to work with a couple of guys that went to school on the GI bill though. One happens to be from Silsbee too. Every so often he would take off to go get shrapnel removed from his head as it came to the surface, it was still there from when his Hummer was hit by an IED and split in half with the other three occupants dying on scene. My other buddy is somewhat permanently crippled from an accident where his parachute didn't fully open on a training exercise and he did what he called a "burn in(?)" from 800 feet.
It's not about always about the free part of it, it's the exposure part that kids might miss an opportunity on. Nobody is calling an average to below average student and begging them to come visit their university because it unlikely they'll even be admitted. However, schools will line up to fly that average to below average "student-athlete" to their campus and get them admitted to school if they can help them win. The average to below average student probably never goes to college and even less likely to graduate if they do. The exposure can change the course for some kids, it can be generation-altering for others that normally wouldn't look at that as an option like my son.

    That was very well said.
And as a coach I appreciate the support.
We do it because it is a calling. It is a lot like being a preacher. Lots of critics and people watching every move we make and every word we say. Perception is reality in our world and it is something most of us knew coming in.
The bottom line is, as a AD/HFC you have be a politician to a certain extent and you have to be very aware of how you treat kids in today's society. Ultimately you have to win, or you lose your job. But, you have to win the way the community wants you to win, because you are an employee of the entire community.

    Facilities equal Pride.
Kids take notice of what they are given. Good Schools tend to lead to good education. Good facilities tend to lead to wins.
Let me ask you this Question:
Would you join a work out facility, pay good money, spend countless hours there, take pride in being a member IF there was no Air Conditioning, the equipment had holes in it, the walls were not painted and the restrooms were old and crappy?? I'm guessing the answer is no.
Then why do we ask our kids to??

Dude, you do NOT have to sacrifice one for the other. In fact, usually when you are successful in sports your test scores increase too because there is a positive moral around the school and the kids seem to take a little bit more pride in everything they do.

Definitely not.  I don't coach period.  I'm not from HF, not a supporter of HF, not a spectator of HF, never even seen a HF athletic event, don't even have friends or family that work in HF.
I am a huge supporter of ALL coaches though.  Maybe you haven't seen some of my other replies.  I defend every coach, from every school, in every sport that is ragged on by people anywhere on this site.  SEVERAL of my buddies that I played college ball with got into coaching..and I have numerous family members and n-laws that are in education, or were in education.  I've heard enough about this situation to know that it's garbage.  I'll never understand why coaches do what they do.  No matter how hard they work, how many hours they put in, or how much they care the salary stays what it is.  And their entire way of life is at the stake of 15-18 year old kids.  Who seem to feel more and more entitled all the time.  All the while being constantly ridiculed by parents and fans that THINK they know more about it than the people hired to do it...because they are a 5 year veteran of coaching youth sports.
Honestly I think coaches are crazy for coaching.  But I guess I do understand (to an extent) why they do it.  I do but I don't.  And I can't stand when people run them down or talk negatively about how they are doing what they do...especially knowing that ALL coaches are at the mercy of the amount of talent they may or may not have.  Parents don't like to hear that their kids are just not any good..it's easier to blame a coach.  But anyway.. No I have zero ties to HF or to this coach we're talking about.  I just know a coach's life will most likely be affected because of this community.

Mr. Green Jeans is hitting upon the truth. Look I am as positive a person as you can get on Kountze Athletics, but i have to be real at the same time. When a school distric spends appox 1/2 or less on each Athlete as they do another extra curricular activity and then when you look out across the field on Friday Nights and your opponent has 5 and 8 more coaches than you do...well 2+2=4 (athletics have been deemed non-essential) When your track program can't uniform everybody properly and Baseball and Softball cant buy field conditioner or even needed equipment but other programs can provide private tutorials to the tune of thousands of dollars (again athletics is deemed non-essential) when the community demands that the athletic program, in it's entirety, not just Basketball, be supported then and only then will you have a succesful program. Look at the successfull programs and look at the community support and demand...even when the success wains the participation does not because the community supports their high school athletics. This is not the fault of the coaches and certainly not the fault of the kids. If this honest statement makes you mad at me for saying it...then your part of the problem. I love to watch kids play sports and be successful, because it builds successful people.
