I saw one quote on the Softball forum that said "High School Sports come first. "  It is this small minded thinking that led to the explosion of select sports.  On every high school athletic team, you will find widely varying levels of commitment by the players to improve their abilities.  This limits the ability of those most committed to improve and achieve.  In select sports, most members on the team are aligned with each other in what they want to achieve personally and as a team.  High School Athletic Staffs should be thankful for the level of athlete that results from select sports and should do what they can to support them.  I believe that missing high school games for select sports is wrong.  But to quote Alan Iverson, "We talkin bout practice".  It is ashamed that High School Staffs think they are the center of the universe, when in fact, it is select sports that advance most high school athlete's collegiate aspirations.  Should the girls have to make up the practices/run laps? Of course.  Should they be banned from the team?  Absolutely not.  Should a family have to move to another school district because of this small minded policy?  No way.  I hope that some sanity comes to the decision makers in Orangefield.
What led the explosion of select teams was not high school athletics, it was the youth leagues. Some one said on the other thread that high school kids should not play high school ball and play just select. In other words to prove a point to the high school coaches. Talk about small minded thinking. That kind of thinking could destroy high school sports and if that happens, what happens to the kids that are not chosen to play select ball. Again I think select ball is a good thing but not at the expense of another sport.
Good post bleed. Some of these kids can't afford the costs of playing select or AAU. High school sports is all they have.

 3.
In the playoffs, everyone from 1A-5A is D1 and D2 in football.
I think the poster was asking when will 3A divide districts into DI and DII like 2A and 1A have done.
 4. This is being discussed in the softball forum: [Hidden Content] What's the volleyball side say?
 5. Lumberton getting a new scoreboard is long overdue. Last season the only thing that worked on that scoreboard was the score and time. Quarter, timeouts, down, yards to go, and yardline did not work. Actually, the booster club tried to buy a new scoreboard a few years ago but was shot down by the administration.
 6.
They forgot the THREE WAY MATCH BETWEEN :  OZENS FINEST VS SOULJA VS SGT REY FOR THE BEAUMONT BOWL HEAVY WEIGHT TITLE...STEEL CAGE...NO DISQUALIFICATION....LADDER MATCH...
A step ladder at best. ::) ;D BTW, did Mark win his match? I mean you can't let the hometown guy lose when he is here.
 7.
Memorial got that many students?
Memorial current enrollment number is 2460. In either one of these mock alignments, PAM would go to 6A.
 8.
Using Matt's numbers, here is what the 3A districts COULD (not will, not should, BUT could...all of this is speculation folks!) turn out: In one district: Bullard, Center, Diboll, Huntington, Lufkin Hudson, Rusk, Pollok Central In another:  Buna, Bridge City, Hardin-Jefferson, Kountze, Orangefield, Warren, West Orange-Stark, Woodville In another:  Anahuac, Coldspring, East Chambers, Hamshire-Fannett, Hardin, Liberty, Shepherd, Tarkington
That's a fair attempt at it. The first district is pretty easy to figure. In the other two, Coldspring is kind of the odd man out, like Livingston is now in our local 4A district. Coldspring is much closer to Warren and Woodville than they are with Anahuac, East Chambers and Hamshire-Fannett. Other than an occassional BC team, WOS would completely dominate this district. BTW Grad, you left out Kirbyville. ;)
 9.
The following cutoff numbers were in Saturday's Bmt Enterprise: 6A - 2215 and up 5A - 1398 - 2214 4A - 604 - 1397 3A - 287.5 - 603 2A - 147 - 287.4 1A - 146 and under
That's not official numbers, just their estimate like Matt's numbers are just a mock estimate. Under the Enterprise's numbers, yes PNG and Vidor would move to 5A, but using Matt's numbers (which I used in my post) PNG and Vidor would stay 4A.
 10.
Aggie: I think PNG and Vidor go to 5A.
Nope. Using these numbers that Matt has for the mock 6A realignment, 5A would be 1435-2254. PNG and Vidor have 1404 and 1416 in this past realignment. They would stay in 4A with these numbers.
Correct on the year, but the venue was Pasadena.  Froze my rear end off that day!
Windy and Cold! WO-S by 1.
I took this post meaning that WOS beat Friendswood by 1 back in 2000 in Pasadena on a COLD and WINDY day, not a prediction for this year's game. ::) How about being more clear next time and not quote a post that's talking about a past game?
 12.
I just finished my mock alignment...here's my cut offs Class 6A 2255-Up 202 schools Class 5A 1422-2254 199 schools Class 4A 715-1434 173 schools Class 3A 345-714 163 schools Class 2A Div. 1 261-344 85  schools Class 2A Div. 2 195-260 87  schools Class A Div. 1 149-194 77  schools Class A Div. 2 100-148.5 79 schools Mind you I included the 17 new football playing schools for 2012 realignment as well to make it a more realistic projection of what we'll see in 2012.  Division 1/Division 2 will stay...you can't take 4 teams to the playoffs and have just one Division.....season would go past Christmas...I believe this will happen in 2012...also look for an interesting first round twist w/the district champions...
Using Matt's numbers (which look to be pretty realistic) this is what classifications our local teams would fall under. (this is not what districts they would play in, just their classification) 6A Baytown Sterling West Brook Channelview North Shore La porte PA Memorial 5A Baytown Lee Crosby Dayton Galena Park GC Memorial CE King North Forest Bmt. Central Nederland 4A Barbers Hill Bmt. Ozen LCM Livingston Lumberton PNG Vidor Jasper Silsbee Cleveland Huffman Splendora 3A Center Diboll Huntington Kirbyville Bridge City Hamshire-Fannett Hardin-Jefferson Orangefield WOS Coldspring Liberty Shepherd Tarkington Anahuac Buna East Chambers Hardin Kountze Warren Woodville 2A DI Newton Corrigan-Camden Hemphill New Waverly 2A DII Deweyville Groveton San Augustine 1A DI Colmesneil Hull-Daisetta Lovelady West Hardin West Sabine 1A DII Burkeville Evadale High Island Sabine Pass After looking at this mock alignment, it is obvious that locally, 2A got robbed by 3A. There would be 20 3A teams as compared to only 7 2A teams, with those seven being divided by division. It would be very difficult to district locally our 3A and 2A schools. 6A and 5A locally is easy to figure district wise as each would have a complete district. 4A would split in two local districts with BH, Dayton, Livingston, Cleveland, Huffman and Splendora in one district and Ozen, LCM, Lumberton, PNG, Vidor, Jasper and Silsbee in the other district. I wouldn't even pretend to try and figure out how the 3A-1A districts locally would fall. Someone else can give it a try. ;D
 13. So Orangefield lost 3 assistant coaches, WOS lost 1 head, 2 assistants and 1 trainer, and BC lost 1 head coach and 1 assistant. What's going on in Orange County??
 14.
They may win but not in dominant fashion.
You still haven't given us your prediction, which was the subject of the thread. ::) What's the matter, scared?
 15. Returners for both teams: Friendswood  (1980) 23 letterman  starters      8 offensive    4 defensive WOS (699) 20 letterman starters      6 offensive  7 defensive Friendswood is picked to win district 24-4A according to DCTF. Here is the picks: 1. Friendswood 2. Pearland Dawson 3. La Marque 4. Manvel 5. Galveston Ball 6. Texas City 7. Santa Fe I say Friendswood will have a little too much offense for WOS to keep up with. Friendswood takes it, 28-21.
Not sure that the UIL could accomlish this with the 6A format. As it is right now in 5A, you have schools that are more than 2 times the size of other 5A schools.
 17.
Well since that mock district has 12 teams in it, that would make for an interesting season...
Where do you see a 12 team district? I only posted what classifications our local teams would be in, not what district that would be in. Also saw a mock that had the numbers for 4A at 715-1430. ECBucFan, there's your 2:1 ratio. ;)
 18.
the drive, heart, and will to win faultered alot last year for the stangs. you can teach these kids how to catch, throw, and block but you cant teach them to care and have heart. if the old wos winning attitude and swagger is back, WATCH OUT! if not it could possibly be a long disappointing season.  jmo
Hmmmm.... interesting. ;) Well said, venom.

 21.
Depth will be huge in this game in favor of Friendswood.
He asked you who would win this game, not who had the most depth. ::)
 22. True Clueless, contrary to what you think, I haven't put down or attacked any kid on this messageboard. I have attacked comments that YOU have made in regards to some issues, I have questioned YOU on some things, and have called YOU out when YOU have posted inaccuracies. I have not directed any of my comments to your son. Only to YOU. And I only know about your son by what YOU post on here. Of course, I do follow the local basketball scene pretty regular (kind of a necessary for my broadcasting, don't you think ::)) so I do get privy to some information from our area coaches and fans. ;) But back to your thoughts on Silsbee, you first called them a "one man" team. Then picked them to finish 3rd in district, saying that Silsbee wasn't all that talented and that WOS had a ton of talent coming back. Now after watching Silsbee blow through the summer tourney, you want to crawfish a little. Keep in mind that Silsbee played that entire tourney without their starting PG and SG. Yet, after making your initial comments about Silsbee, you can't seem to see the error in your comments. Don't get me wrong, everyone has their own opinion of how good or bad a team will be. But you can't seem to post anything with any kind of credibility to back up your assesments. Comments like "Silsbee will be just a one-man team" and " WOS has a bunch of talented players coming back" just prooves what little you actually know. Silsbee is far from a one-man team, most everyone knows this fact. As for WOS, how do you make those comments when in actuality WOS lost 4 senior starters and 8 of their top 11 players. You sir are clueless.
 23. [Hidden Content] Jim Lewis is the new basketball coach.
Just a precautionary measure, that's all.  It'll be ready to go.
;) :-X
