3. Okay, enough of the slander talk on Yates school. Get back on topic, Silsbee vs. Yates basketball. Last warning.
 4.

First of all, the year was 1996, not '99. Secondly the team that beat Silsbee was Tyler Chapel Hill, not Jacksonville. Third, Silsbee did not go to the state semifinals the next year. Silsbee lost to CH 66-62 and then Cleveland knocked off CH 80-63 in the next round. BTW, Silsbee was undefeated at 31-0 entering that game, not "undefeated" at 31-1. ;)
96?  I thought it was later than that.  And thanks for the team name, now I'll have it.  As you can guess it's one of my favorite stories to bore grandchildren with.  You must have been there and if you were then like me you know about fate.  Yates, may be a strong favorite but when fate takes a hand..... Out of curiosity far did the Tigers get the next year?  Wasn't Holden back?
Actually, after double checking it was '97 not '96. Silsbee lost to Cleveland the next year in quarterfinals 60-59.
 5.
I can remember a time when a 4A school was undefeated, 31 - 1 and ranked No. 1 going into the second round after a first round bye.  That team lost in the first round to a team that was not ranked.  The year was 1999 and the upset victim was.....  you guessed it, Silsbee.  I was there, some of you perhaps were there.  It was the most shocking upset I've ever seen in person at any level.  Silsbee had good height, excellent speed.  They were not a likely candidate for an upset because they won on defense.  They didn't have to depend on outscoring their opponents.  The defense was withering, and not just pressing full court but intense half court defense that disrupted anybody's offense.  Of course they could score, they could light it up.  Thaydeus Holden went on to become No. 10 all time at Tennessee in 3 pointers.  They could play above the rim when necessary.  Heck, the one white kid on the team could score impressive dunks in game conditions. It was somebody up north, Jacksonville I think.  They were a good team but not even good enough to win their district.  They weren't going to Austin, they were just happy to be there and if you're going out why not go out valiantly to the best, right?  Well that's not how it worked out.  Everything they threw up went in.  And the longer it went the worse it got.  It was like the Absent Minded Professor sneaked in and ironed flubber on their shoes.  They could do no wrong.  They couldn't believe it themselves when it was over.  I've seen teams celebrate after winning the State Championship in the Drum but I've never seen a high school team celebrate a win with such pure shocked elation.  Some of our guys were in tears of course but SO WERE SOME OF THEIRS!!! Just out of pure surprise and perfect joy.  It was like the last scene on the barricade in Les Miserables.  I think I saw long dead players from that school's distant past, back from the grave in spectral form, waving flags and singing the school song in upper deck.  We stumbled out of the arena there in Lufkin sort of in a daze.  I can remember through the nightmarish fog mumbling incoherently about it being God's will or something like that.  The next year Silsbee made it to the semifinals with a team that wasn't as good. It forever burned the "any given night" truism into my consciousness.  Does Silsbee have a chance?  Oh yea, at this level everybody has a chance against everybody.  My prediction?  I predict a 25 point win for Yates but I'm hoping for a surprise. 6. I foresee our local 3A (4A) districts to be something like this: Division I Bridge City Silsbee WO-S Huffman Splendora Cleveland Jasper Division II Hamshire-Fannett Hardin-Jefferson Orangefield Liberty Tarkington Coldspring Shepherd I expect Buna to drop down a classification
 7.

Reports are that Class 3A supts have voted to split districts into Division I and Division II like 1A and 2A football districts are currently starting in 2014 with next realignment. Really do not like this decision.
so the new 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A will all be split districts?
Correct. Only 5A and 6A will keep regular type districts.

 9.
Silsbee.  198 Yates.  196
Maybe a bit high but I would not be surprised if both teams hit the century mark. ;)
 10.
Just saw some highlights here in Houston of Yates vs HJ.. Yates was doing windmill, 360's,, andsome wild alley opps. They seem to try to dunk on every drive to the hoop. Foul them and make them shoot free throws!
HJ did foul them and Yates hit 19 of 25 for 76%.

 12. Saw this tweet today from Beaumont Enterprise sports writer Jared Ainsworth: Jared Ainsworth ‏@JaredAinsworth I spoke to Silsbee coach Joe Sigler today on the Yates game. He said "We respect everybody but we don’t have a fear of anybody."

 14.
Silsbee travels to Livingston Tuesday at 7:00 pm to take on the Livingston Lions Should be a pretty good match up. Hope the rain holds up
Tell Coach Nelson to push the game start time back at least 30 minutes to an hour. That way I can catch some of the game on the way back from Huntsville. ;D
 15.
I heard that Yates will probably stay in 3a for a while but you think they will move up to 4a during the next realingnment .
They will go back up.
 16. Schools can have early release for whatever reason as long as the school completes their required school days for school calendar year. bobby, you are reaching. ::)
 17. Yates is in 3A because their enrollment numbers put them there. Just that simple. I do know that HISD decided to not let their schools opt up a classification like they have been doing the last several years. But Yates admins actually thought their numbers would still keep them 4A and that is why they did not check the box to opt up.  It is what it is. I fully expect Yates to be back to 4A next realignment.
 18.
Will you message me and let me know if you find out about the fan buses Aggie ?
Sure
 19.
Date and time on this game?
It's posted in the regional quarterfinal schedule thread.
 20. Students will be getting out of school at 1pm Tuesday. This will allow students, staff, and admins time to travel to Huntsville for 6pm game against Yates. I did hear there may be some buses for Tiger fans to travel on but have not received confirmation on this yet.

Let's keep the talk to Silsbee/Houston Yates and leave the personal stuff out.
Mike this is really good, we need something like this in the city for real.
Thanks. We hope you guys stick around with us. We have tried a Houston website, but it just never got enough traffic or support. Houston area fans are always welcome over here. Spread the word.
