Look out in da future for da central lady jags freshman team this group has shooters good defense team chemistry and heart. They play wit passion and as a family. Look out they are going to dethrone da lady panthers in two years if they stay healthy and together with da chemistry they have. Good guard play good shooters and defense is a remedy for success they can go deep into da playoffs wit this team as they mature and get bigger smarter and faster. Go lady jags Freeman team

Ozen Lady Panthers have 3 Freshmen on Varsity. In 2 years they will have a 6'4 Sr., 6'2 Jr., 6'1 Sr., 6'0 Jr. and a 5'8 Jr. guard that all play Varsity for the Panthers. Not to mention their supporting cast. Ozen reloads while other programs have to build or rebuild. JMO

    I agree...

But that's my point.  See how your kids are zoned to Central but went to Odom?  Ozen is low on numbers as it is and they rely on numbers from their two feeder schools.  South Park and Odom.  But with a lot of kids that attend Odom from all over town NOT zoned to Ozen, Ozen's population probably is directly affected...

Yes it is. WB strong athletic history came from a winning Hebert H.S. program with majority of the best athletes coming from the Pear Orchard.

Mamba24, you accepting the attitude Boyd have. I have a kid that plays Football, Baseball, and Basketball at WOS. If  my kid would have ashamed me with the actions i seen Boyd do tonight. I would've went ashamed him. I wish my kid would do that to his coach what Boyd did. If they had any recruiter's in the building he just lost interest from them. I'm not his parent and I was ashame. I'm guessing they condone that at Ozen.

Fact is the kid is dealing with some other issues and not handling it well. He still has to be made accountable for his actions and learn to deal with frustration are he will be back home soon. I've witness one of mine handle things wrong out of frustration coming off the field but we handled it so that it wouldn't happen again. Coaches should discipline players but parents should support the coaches and really be the one who corrects the behavior. After all coaches have them for a few seasons but they are ours for a lifetime.

If Ozen is potential state contenders, then Nederland is also. This series could of and should of been 2-0 Nederland. If you watched both games and teams you would see there is more room for improvement on Nederland than Ozen. The main focal point is turnovers. Ozen does a pretty good job of taking care of the ball, and Nederland can improve in that department. My honest opinion is neither of these teams are state contenders. I hope I'm wrong.

My opinion is that Ozen's players really don't believe Nederland is that big of a challenge when they play them. The coaches respect them more but the players don't always bring their A game when playing them so this allows the game to be closer than probably should be. JMO

  5. Anyone have some analysis on the game?

Poor free throw shooting for Ozen and also poor team play especially the last 3 mins. it was all 1 on 1 who can do their own thing. Ozen will have to be able to run an effective play to get a key shot in tough games and not play ground play without execution. Central's Attwood carried his team as the rest of the Jags contributed with whatever else was needed. I do believe the Jags struggled with the pressure but Ozen did not capitalize on their mistakes. All and all Jags will always be competitive and so will Ozen. Congrats Jags!

  6. imo, thechances of getting seriously injured in basketball is a lot less than in football.  Plus, Arnold isn't a high flyer, meaning he won't be getting undercut trying to fly over defenders or hanging on the rim.  That kid is good and would be a great asset to that basketball team.  I understand being serious about football.  But this kid was first noticed on the basketball court.  I say finish it how you began.

    No doubt he would help.

  7. With the Arnold situation, when you're a senior, and football season is over, you go all out...  Basketball season is here and you should go all out for your school, the last go around...  I saw Arnold last year and kid can go, and make a serious push for state...

It's cool If the school has $100,000 to send him to college If he tares a knee or ankle up. Otherwise he has to be comfortable in playing. Can't be mad either way because it's his future we're talking about.  IJS

  8. Just Saying, lets just be honest with ourselves!! The Three schools in BMT will never have success in the playoffs against schools out of the Houston area. The best we can hope for is two rounds and be happy. The Houston area has by far a larger number of kids to pick from first, thats just putting it mildly. Lets do facts for a minute: Our administrators are not that bright, case in point if i attend Pearland High and I feel its not the right fit for me because of whatever reason and can go to Pearland Dawson. First of all i would not have to sit out a entire year and I would have to wait the 15 days per UIL and that's it. In BMT our AD not Vidors, Nederland, or PNG will not allow a kid to play varsity for a year. HATE THAT RULE!! I understand the reasoning behind it but the reasons behind it does not benefit the kids development when he's playing sub varsity and played varsity the year before. The district does not have enough coaches so do you think there's Quality at the lower level!!! We had a coach in the district right now kid was an all district performer as a Soph, dad got a head job at the cross town school and do you know his own son could not play varsity bc of the terrible rule. That kid had D1 skills and i personally feel the reason he didn't go D1 was because his Jr year he did not get quality coaching and did not develop when the Pearland Kid continued to get better because hes still being coach up!!! Head Coaches in BMT are not judged on their Sub Varsity win/loss record so sub varsity do not have the best coaches, just saying. Secondly, Our District/ community is not about developing youth programs the correct way, meaning there's no way a youth program in the Pear Orchid, South-end, or the North-end can survive without the district/community help!! My good friends are doing it though, they coach Thunder Football and with the help of Central they are allowed to practice on their practice fields. Come game time, this is the problem why its hard to keep a league going for the kids zoned to Central and Ozen, It cost anywhere from 600-1500 to have a home game. I understand you have to pay for security and Refs. So if your having 4 age groups play and 3 refs per game at 50 per game that's 600. BISD officer making 25 hour, so it starts at 10 finishes at 5. That is another 175 and to add insult to injury our district wants them to pay them 250 just for using the facility on top of paying for a custodian all day and you cant use the concession stand bc the boaster clubs may not allow you to. Now mind you the league Thunder is in a league where you cant charge at the gate like Salvation army does and its a united way organization that I support Bi Weekly through payroll deductions!! I know for a fact my Buddies with the Thunder do not turn any kid away because of money, they just sell Turkey Legs every Friday to help with the cost, now i said all that to say this: This is a problem in our community because everyone wants to see the finished product on Friday nights and if they don't win FIRE the coach!!! Well when is the community going to step up and help support these types of leagues. I know the ones that are posting on this site can afford to do that because the kids I'm talking about don't even have a computer at their home. So their mentality is i will wait till i get in middle school to play football bc my mommmmmm cant afford for me to play nor can she afford to drive me to Houston every other weekend!! BISD comes into play because there's basketball leagues that are supported by BISD and there is for sure a summer TRACK program provided and the coaches even get summer stipends to do it. I don't hear no one on here saying fire the track coaches and i promise you we haven't had a state championship in track in a while but BISD pays people to run those summer programs. I guess because the have to go to WB to do it they get paid. So why cant we have a youth football program thats sponsored by BISD if football is that important!! We can also hold our city accountable also because they support all of this adult stuff and nothing for the youths that cant afford to play travel anything!!! Long post so I will continue later!!

Just got the word, The Thunder Sr team will be in the super game, the only team in the area to make the SB in youth sports!!!

Good post! I experienced thIs with our S.T.A Raiders program and the financial sacrifices the coaches make to Keep It Going! Congrats Thunder!

  9. i didn't see (sarcasm) in the post *the word*

    Geesh.

Hey BG do you know what sarcasm is? I fully understand, they actually cursed me out in Latin when i graduated. They called me all kinds of Summa Cum Laude's and even made me wear a different color robe! Geesh! Lol

I guess you didn't realize this was a joke either? Lighten up Buddy this cold air must be getting to ya! :)

I was saying that this never happened when 2 high schools existed.  That means if Ozen never were created in '97, then we wouldn't be discussing dwindling numbers.  Central or West Brook's numbers NEVER dwindled when it was only 2.

Fast forwarding to now, I don't want it closed now.  So many proud alum there after 18 years of existence... And some proud Hebert alum living vicariously through Ozen.....

Nobody wants to see schools closed down in their community. Charlton, French, Southpark, Forest Park, Hebert are all now the current WB, Central and Ozen. There isn't anything wrong with having 3 schools if the zoning is corrected and quality teachers are paired at each and every school. Some teachers may teach subjects well but can't manage their classroom which is a major problem at some schools. Parents will send their kids often to the best situation for their child but others have to endure difficulties from some in class whom parents may not hold them accountable for learning or having good behavior. I say fix the whole problem by rezoning, holding kids, teachers, administrators and parents responsible for a better school system and environment. Quick rant! Lol
