1. just don't ask how your daughter and my daughter did in the basketball run this morning.
2. Barbers Hill won the girls Varsity and JV (7 in top 10 in Varsity) Robert E Lee won the boys Varsity and JV
3. It's 2:22pm and Dayton still sux.  Now on the serious side.  Good luck tonight to both teams and I hope neither team suffers any injuries.  With the recent injuries and of course the tragedy at WOS, I want both teams to have a good hard fought game...and hopefully a close and exciting game.  That is what Friday nights are about.
4. Good job to both teams.  Nederland played better than the 28-0 spread indicated but just had a few mental mistakes.  Looks like they got some of that corrected in the 4th.  I was proud of the BH boys as they were working on every play and it seemed to be someone different on every tackle.  Now we get a week off before starting district I think.
5. That would have to be rumor.  There are actually other important duties of Supt./board members than the football team.  We have a ways to go before winning big.  Let's get through this Friday first and give the new coaching staff it's time.  Good luck Eagles.
6. On school website it shows: Football Scrimmage at Eagle Stadium Friday, August 20        Freshmen at 5:00 at Aux Field       JV at 6:00 at Eagle Field       Varsity at 7:00 at Eagle Field
7. Didn't the article stop at 130 wins?  I know that is a lot of fingers and toes, but that is more than 123.  Don't worry about respect.  The folks that know football, give Coach Stewart his due.
8. 1/2 Bird/Magic 3 Jordan  *Okay, I know this is not a popular choice but as a Bird/Magic fan, I can't take them out of top spot. 4 Wilt Chamberlain 5 Oscar Robertson (averaged a triple double for a season early in his career) 6 Craig Ehlo (okay in jest.  Rocket fans in his early days were rooting for the end of the bench player to get in the game) I am a big Kobe fan, but I am not sure who would come out of the top 5.
9. Good Luck Coach Toon.  Nimitz should be a good opportunity.
10. Spoke to Chancellor yesterday and he is excited about the new opportunity.  Good luck to him, except the two times we play the Cougars.  Hopefully we can all get behind Coach Kyle and have an even better playoff run next season.
11.
I hear from the "in the know"  that there are only three in the running, Shaw (GCM) Hall (Livingston) and Kyle (Marcus).
All 3 would be good at this position.  I know Shaw has experience coaching and has been around basketball forever.  Most of us remember Pennee as a coach/player and I did see this write up on Kyle after last year's season. This is Kit Kyle's fourteenth year as the head coach of the Marcus girls basketball program and the women's athletic coordinator for Marcus High.  Coach Kyle's record of excellence includes leading the Marauders to the State Playoffs 10 out of the last 13 years, and to 9 District Championships.  She has had the opportunity to coach and develop 47 college scholarship athletes, and as of the end of the 2008-09 season, amassed 342 career wins - all at Marcus. Pennee and Kit have experience as girls coordinators and Robert's has administration experience at multiple schools, so the coordination duties would not be a reach for him.
12.
BH85......why "Ouch"?  Are you another one with an axe to grind?
No, I do not have an axe to grind.  I just think it is tough anytime someone loses their job and this is the 3rd head coach leaving this year along with many assistants.  I have backed the coaches we had and will back the new ones.  It seems that we have not been happy with any of the girls coaches since Rivers left.  I think we have had some good ones that have gotten away in this position. Good Luck to John in his future endeavors.

14. Good luck to Coach Stalbaum.  He was my basketball coach when he first came to Barbers Hill and the players always liked playing for him.  Almost 30 years at any school is a pretty good run.
15. Hopefully Matthew will run that time at Regional as that should get him to Austin.
16. Good Luck to Coach Price and Hamshire Fannett.
17.
did she win?
It's not over yet...  Voting goes on until March 16th.
18. I guess that means we can say that Babe is the best basketball player from SE Texas.  This is a very impressive group when you have super talent even on the 3rd team.
19. Thanks for the heads up.  She has some catching up to do, but we have 2 weeks.  Vote early, vote often and I think she promises to lower taxes if she wins  :D
20. Congrats Bulldogs.  Y'all have a great coach in coach English and a good program now and upcoming....  I can't wish you good luck on your next game, though ;)
21. [Hidden Content] This lists past winners, all stars and other information about Texas Basketball.  I've seen a good bit of his information on track that is great also.  Of course sometimes I like to use my brain to make up facts to help support my arguments better.
22. What about the Hebert teams in early 80's.  Didn't they win state 3 years in a row?  I remember them being really good.
23. I have seen Dayton girls at Middle School and High School Level twice this year and they do have some good players coming up.  BH/Dayton will have some good battles over the next 5 years.
24.
Everyone keeps talking about Little Dribblers programs...They used to teach fundamentals at a young age, but now it seems the trend is more about having ten different plays, only one kid scoring, and winning only. That's not teaching anything.
I agree on this as I see players and team from many programs.  The teams may look better but the individual skills are not as good and many coaches focus more on winning and not correcting poor shooting form or dribbling form.  This really hurts the players as they get into Middle school and they have a bad habit that has developed for 5 or 6 years.  Don't get me wrong, there are still some very good coaches at the LD level in quite a few of the local programs, but the percentage of good ones seem to be going down in my opinion. You also see this with some of the Select/AAU programs.  The teams that spend time on player development as well as tournaments tend to produce the players that are successfull as they get older.  Practice doesn't make perfect, but it does make permanent, so if kids are not being corrected then they will still be carrying the ball in high school and shooting from the hip.
