  1. 1:28 left ... score 52-53 but she forget to say who has 53. seems like it'll be a good finish.
  2. 52-47 Dayton ahead with 2:52 left. So if BH can get a touchdown they will go back ahead
  3. Once again, your action news reporter in the booth at the gym Covering the disturbance at the basketball playoffs Pardon me sir, did you see what happened? Yeh, I did...half-time, I was just going down there To get Ethel a snow cone Here he come right our of the cheap seats Dribblin'...right down the middle of the court Didn't have on nothin' but his PJ's Made a hook shot and got out thru the concession stand I hollered up at Ethel, I said don't look Ethel It was too late...She'd already got a free shot Grandstanded...Right there in front of the home team
  4. Dayton 19 BH 16 early in the 2nd.... K.Rivera in foul trouble according to my teenager in the stands.
  5. Not sure if BH is having one this year...but I'll check and post. I'm also checking on Liberty who has had one for the last 10+ years.
  6. I don't want to get into the homecooking comments. No one likes the Houston refs, or Cleveland refs or.... Baytown area teams think Beaumont refs cheat, Beaumont area teams don't trust Baytown area refs and it'll always be like that. Of course BH fans think all refs are against them...but that's another story. Congrats to Dayton on the big win. The program is on the right track and should make playoffs....which I think will be a first round match up with BH..... so good luck until then. The girls program in Dayton will continue to grow as success feeds off of success and to take down a tough Central team should be a good motivator. I have seen them multiple times over the last 2 years but have not been able to catch them this year.... It looks as if Coach Wooldridge has them working hard.
  7. Crosby at BH Girls game on Friday 1/25 will also serve as a fundraiser for Clements High School coach who passed away last month after a long bout with Leukemia. There will be donations buckets set up at the game as they are doing at many games across Houston that night. ....and it should be a good team as both teams are pushing toward the playoffs. Below is a from a note I received and it gives more details on Coach Grafe. READ---- After discussing some ideas with members of the GHAGBA and board members, we've decided to proclaim January 25, 2008 as Zach Grafe Memorial Game Day, in memory of our beloved colleague who lost his battle with Leukemia on December 29, 2007. The idea is to have each home team "pass the hat" to collect money for Zach's fund. The head coach of the home team should make an announce, prior to the game, informing the fans about Zach (see below) and explaining where the money will be sent. Please inform that anyone wishing to make a check should make it payable to the Zach Grafe Fund. Once you collect the money, please exchange the cash for one of your personal checks, and send the check to the address below. DO NOT send cash via mail. Or if you want to personally deliver the money, you can take it to Clements High School. When sending your check via mail, please make sure that you include the attached form. Please communicate with your opposing coach regarding our intent to collect funds for Zach. Some coaches are not member of the GHAGBA and will not know about our intent. Encourage these coaches to participate on this day, and to become members of the GHAGBA. I also encourage you to wear "BLUE" in honor of Zach and Clements High School. Please understand that you are under NO OBLIGATION to participate in the Zach Grafe Memorial Game; this is just to encourage our membership to help Zach's family through a rough time. Zach's wife, Jill, is a private school teacher, not making much money, and Zach did not have life insurance. Please let me know if you have a home game and are willing to participate. Thanks for your time, cooperation, and for all of your efforts in helping our fallen colleague. Zach Grafe Bio: * Passed on December 29, 2007 of Leukemia. * Fought Leukemia for 7 years. Starting at age 25. * Died at 32 years of age. * Survived by his wife Jill, Riley (age 5), Reagan (age 3), and Zach Jr. (2 months). * Head Girl's Basketball Coach at Fort Bend Clements High School. * Also Assistant Softball and History Teacher. * Member of GHAGBA, TABC, TGCA. * Graduate of University of Texas
  8. 13:06 was a good time on that field....especially for a Freshman. She should have some good years ahead of her. The terran was a little hilly and there was some wind. It looked real hilly compaired to some of the flat areas around here, especially compared to Regional meet in Humble. Is Box coaching the girls? He is a good coach and a very nice guy.
  9. Barbers Hill girls placed in the top 3 and will be at Austin next week.
  10. In the 4A/5A division Barbers Hill Girls finished 12th (1st in 4A, I believe) with an average time of 13:21. Samantha Rhodes led the way with a time of 12:55 (44th place). She was followed by Catherine Reuter (13:03), Shannon Mudd (13:22), Larissa Rios (13:33) and MacKenzie Daniels (13:52). Overall 7 of the BH girls finished with a time of 14 minutes or better. On the boys side, Jess Williams led BH with a time of 18:12, followed by Tim Ramsey (18:21), Sean Evans (19:20), Nathan Doisy (20:00) and Jarrett Cobb 20:08) and after seeing Ryan Kelly's time...I'm wondering if I can do a mile and half at that time. (okay, maybe a mile). *These times are off of [Hidden Content]
  11. Very impressive game and the way he finished it....Now only if the Astros could bring someone like this up....
  12. Good Article... I especially like the part about kids specializing too early. I've seen some going to one sport as early as 7 or 8. The more well rounded a kid is....the better. ---- DN: What do you regard as the biggest threats to your ability and that of your coaching staffs to continue your winning ways at Dayton? STEWART: The biggest threat is participation. I don't want kids to specialize in any one sport, and that includes football. I want to see them playing two or three sports. We've got a lot of kids in our elementary schools that have started worrying about being specialists in on particular sport. What happens if you're not any good in that sport? The first thing they'll tell you is that they are great. Well, in every parent's eyes, as it should be, your kid is great, but that's not practical - that's just not the way it is. Some kids mature early and are as good in 8th or 9th grade as they're going to get. Other kids mature late. So the biggest threat is the specialization of sports. ----
  13. Thanks for everyone's support. Benefit went well. We had over 55 teams ranging from 3/4th grade up to Men's division. We raised over 11K. Arnold Peters is still in Critical Care ICU but hopefully this will help some on the homefront. Thoughts and Prayers are still needed to help him get through it.
  14. Congrats...I can barely jump and touch that high.
  15. [Hidden Content] gives you pricing and times (it's 25 for both days, and there are other choices). Finish line is very crowded and fans get there way before running starts. I usually sit up high not at the finish line. Not as crowded and you can see the whole track better. The only thing you miss is the leans at the line but it's great for 400 and above and especially the relays. The biggest cost is drinks, especially if it's hot. If you are going with a group get the program and make your picks early. This makes all the races fun.
  16. My first one was when I was in Middle School and I went a few times in the 80's and early 90's. I did go last year for one day but it was so hot I can't remember as much. Local flavor...I remember Tony Allen from Jasper blowing away the field in 400. Guidry and the start of the string of Orangefield dominance in pole vault. I remember Peveto in the 800. Ramsey from West Brook breaking record in 400 in '94 when I took my girl to her 1st one (as a baby)...He broke Ketchum's record which I got to see in '81. Barnes from Silsbee tearing it up....maybe 3 golds? People going this weekend will see some great athletes and should come away with some great memories. The funniest part is that when you are walking out you are pumped up and you feel you can compete...of course that only lasts for a little while as you race your kids out to the car.
  17. Conspiracy alert. If you look close at the video, there is a secondary tripper. He comes out of the bushes and knocks out the baton. ;D Judge ruled no foul. So only discussion should be between BH coaches and official. The Dayton runner was just running his tail off. Good luck to Dayton team this weekend. I've been to the big meet many times (though too slow to go as participant), and it's one of my favorite sporting events to attend. I liked it better at the old venue but it's still neat when everyone rises for the mile relay.
  18. thanks stang4life. There is a fund setup at Barbers Hill Bank in Mont Belvieu or you can contact [email protected] who is helping to collect.

  20. Approximately two weeks ago, a family in Mont Belvieu experienced a tragedy. Arnold Peters was involved in a horrible head-on collision where the other driver lost his life. Arnold was lifeflighted and remained in ICU with serious injuries in addition to temporary kidney dialysis, a chest tube, and a breathing tube. He has broken more bones in his body than I can count and has barely been able to undergo the first of many surgeries to clean wounds, place a rod in his leg, and a plate in his arm. Kay, his wife, has spent most every day and night at the hospital since Arnold’s accident — except for the evening that their daughter attended her senior prom. Arnold and Kay have been tireless volunteers for so many community functions in Mont Belvieu and beyond. Either one of them would very willingly give anyone in need the shirt off their backs. And now, the community wants to give back to them and their wonderful daughters. On Saturday, May 12, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament (which will include numerous age groups from young to old) will be held at the Old Gym in Mont Belvieu in order to raise funds to allow us to give back to this family. There will be girls, boys and coed brackets. There are quite a few high school girls teams already signing up. Email one of the contacts below for more information. 23. The 8th grade team won (the one in the other bracket). I think it was around 15 points and Lumberton beat Hardin Jefferson for 3rd in a close game.
