1.
I think i saw roc in a screen shot with Wade Phillip and  Dez Bryant!
Could be as Roc is kin to Coach Phillip's wife.
 2. Wish I could get season tickets but I work every other weekend 7a-7P. But, I'll be there as often as possible.
 3. I believe McNeese is sending over about 500 tickets. So if you want to sit in a group of Cardinal fan's you'll need to get them asap.
 4.

Hearing Harold Mann on play-by-play & former LU football player Bo Brown on color.
I like Harold Mann.  Good guy.  Just won't be the same with out old Dave Hofferth.  Anyway, having games to broadcast outway's my preference of the play by play announcer.
Could not agree more with your thoughts. Harold Mann is very good at his job but Dave Hofferth is in a league of his own. I guess KLVI did in fact get the contract for broadcasting the football games. [Hidden Content]
 5.
Just got back in town glad to read lu baseball fan remarks.  If you research any of the places I mentioned in my post you will see that he has  not stayed at any place very long either by his choice or not.  I also bet I have more college letters (playing) than you and big red 360 combined, a total of 6.  Not bragging just being factual again, now please quit trying to make me out a bad guy.  Peace out
RW was at Kilgore from 88-95 so that is a few years in one place. Please quit referring to me in your post when I haven't stated anything but facts. Him being at Kilgore as a DC from 88-95 is a fact. Just being factual and not bragging but my brother played at McNeese (team went to the quarterfinals while he was there) and then he went into the coaching profession. One of my best friends went to training camp with Tampa Bay and was a two-time All-SLC player at Arkansas State (played WR) and they played Georgia Southern for the national championship for then DI-AA. So, there are plenty of guys who played college ball and probably several visit this site. LU Baseball Fan is kin to Kevin Millar so I'm sure she knows more about baseball than football. Again, please quit referring to me in your post and I promise not to mention your username. Peace.
 6. A junior? That has to be a first at Lamar! A underclassmen giving a verbal commitment to the Cardinals! Congratulations to Mr. Persohn and wishing you a great junior season at H-J.
 7. The final four at-large teams and final four automatic qualifiers in the newly minted 68-team NCAA men's basketball tournament field will meet for the right to enter the traditional 64-team draw, tournament selection committee chairman Dan Guerrero announced Monday. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=5374116
 8. 02-04-2007    #17 TexasTerror       From the good ole Lamar faithful "in the know", abovetherim3 of Lamar's fan board...    I've had several discussions with people about this topic. Lamar is committed to bringing back the sport. Expect a formal announcement some time in the spring or early summer. The process is further along than most people are aware. There have been discussions with a coach who is quoted as saying he would "love the challenge of building a program" and also mentioned "I see no reason Lamar University can't have a successful football program with the amount of talent within a 100 mile radius of Beaumont".    This coach played major college football for a Big 12 conference team, was a assistant coach for several seasons in the SEC.    The Head Coach will be hired a full year before Lamar plays their first football game. He will then put together a coaching staff, work on scheduling and the recruitment of players. That being said, expect the first class of players to be heavy with JC transfers, transfers from FBS schools, HS freshman who will red-shirt a season and then add another class before the first game is played.    The administration from what I'm told is committed to having the best facilities in the SLC so that would tell me a major renovation is in store for Cardinal Stadium and the field house or a new stadium and athletics facilities will be begun in the near future.    I am sure this all will happen by the 2010 season. It is a lot of work to happen in 3 years but I believe in the current administration can make it happen.    There are reasons a public announcement by the university has not been made at the present time but I'm not a liberty to discuss those issues nor do I fully understand them. Looks like abovetherim3 knew a few things about the football program didn't he TT? By the way, I found this on the site anygivensaturday. [Hidden Content]

We'll save the Bob Marlin talk for later as he left SHSU for ULL. That must have hurt as the Ragin Cajuns were in the "old SLC" and this isn't really a major step up the coaching ladder. :D :D
Want to talk Marlin to ULL? Marlin reached his height at SHSU. Two NCAA appearances. Would've been nice to win a game in the NCAA, but he put this program in a much better place than he left it. It is much easier to move on from the Sun Belt to a school in the desired SEC. Marlin's not getting younger and if he can turn around ULL in the next 3-to-5 years, may have a chance at the SEC.  He left on great terms with his AD. The situation is not like the one involving Roc and Tubbs. It did not need intervening from the President of the institution...
First I don't want to turn a football tread into a basketball one. However, I have a couple of comments about your post. 1. In 12 seasons with SHSU, BM produced an overall record of 225 victories and 131 losses. His last eight seasons in Huntsville, the Kat's produced a combined record of 163-81 for an average record of 20-10 each season. If Lamar had eight straight 20 win seasons our attendance would be though the roof. With that kind of success on the basketball court your AD and President of SHSU only paid him about what Lamar paid Coach Tidwell in his third year as the WBB HC. If Lamar is willing to pay Coach Tidwell the type of salary he was making in a non-revenue producing sport there is no way Lamar would have just let him leave without a serious offer increasing his salary. 2. Having read some comments on katfans.com and not everyone was happy with BM's decision to leave SHSU for ULL. I mean I thought you have earlier stated SHSU is a basketball school. Then you state "Marlin reached his height at SHSU." So, the "height" of success in MBB at SHSU is two NCAA appearances in 12 seasons? Now, I know the Kat's have been a lot better than Lamar in men's basketball over the same period of time. I'm sure you'll note that in a reply but there is no need as I concer. If things fell different in the Baylor game and the Kat's won, he would have gotten a major college job and I'd be saying congratulations. But, leaving for the Sun Belt? I know about Sun Belt coaches landing major college jobs the past few years; Buzz Williams, Darrin Horn and John Pelphrey. One of his reasons for leaving SHSU was ULL "passionate fanbase" or one could say the lack of passion for MBB in Huntsville. 3. You must have a source in the Lamar athletic department or something because you keep stating Coach Tubbs asked Roc to resign. However, I have yet to hear information about our prior AD attempting to force Roc into resigning. Did they have a post season meeting? Yes. Our Interim Athletics Director Larry Tidwell and Coach Roc are very good friends. So, I think he will do everything in his power to help Coach Roc be successful and not have to do a very difficult thing and fire a good friend.

You'll find that fan bases at other start-ups are breaking down their program in many ways, though based on speculation. At least Woodard's resume and the lengthy list of transfers are known entities. We'll save the Tubbs, Roc talk until later. ;)
"At least Woodard's resume and the lengthy list of transfers are known entities." Man, this takes alot of work as you must know how to read to gain this information! ::) ::) We'll save the Bob Marlin talk for later as he left SHSU for ULL. That must have hurt as the Ragin Cajuns were in the "old SLC" and this isn't really a major step up the coaching ladder. :D :D
 11. The reason I like the way RW is recruiting is because there will be transfers and freshmen who redshirted last season. Then you add the transfers and freshmen from this years recruiting class. So there will be olders guys on the team mixed with some youth. If you just recruit HS players as a startup program you'll be playing teams loaded with juniors and seniors and your team will be made up of redshirt freshman and true freshman players. That would be a major disadvantage in my opinion.
 12. 1. Josh McCown 2. Dustin Long 3. Rhett Bomar 4. Tyrik Rollison Sorry, TT 4 isn't several high-profile transfers at the QB position.
What is good for Terror is not good for everyone else.  Just like the most famous alumni from Dan Rather State, being hypocritcal does not bother him.
Maybe he'll tell us about all the guys the new HC has ran off since his arrival in Huntsville. If one of our coaches did that you know he'd be making some negative comments about the situation.
 14. You can add Tyrik Rollison a QB transfer from Auburn to the list.
 15. Rumor has it that Barry Switzer was contacted about the job too. Here is some RW bio information. Woodard spent three years as the defensive coordinator for the Scottish Claymores from 2000-03 - his second stint with an NFL Europe franchise. From 1988-95 Woodard was the defensive coordinator at Kilgore College and recruited more than 200 Texas high school student-athletes. The Rangers appeared in back-to-back Shrine Bowls in 1989 and 1990. Kilgore had a 9-2 record in 1990, won the conference championship and was ranked as high as No. 6 in the country. Woodard was a two-time All-America selection as a defensive tackle at Kilgore College from 1980-81. Woodard then finished his college career at the University of Texas under coach Fred Akers. The 1982 team went 9-3 and finished the season ranked 17th nationally. As a senior in 1983, Woodard and the Longhorns posted a perfect 11-0 regular season mark, captured the Southwest Conference championship and finished the season ranked fifth in the nation. Texas led the nation in total defense, yielding just 212 ypg along with 9.5 ppg. Woodard was then selected in the eighth round of the 1984 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. He spent the next five seasons with the Chargers, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs. He was a member of the Broncos' 1986 AFC Champion and Super Bowl team. How many Head Coaches in the SLC have played college ball at the highest level and then played in the NFL? IMO that is a recruiting advantage. He played in the NFL and can tell kids he knows what it takes to get there.

He lead Blinn JC and Central Missouri prior to taking over for the BearKats; one a juco and the other DII. He definitely didin't make a "splash" around here.
I do not think Fritz was a "sexy pick", but unlike Woodard - he's got plenty of experience at the top two level of NCAA football. He spent several years as a Division I assistant and plenty more as a Division II head coach. His JUCO head coaching stint is just "bonus". Woodard has not coached at the Division I level, if I read his bio correctly. Nor has he coached at the Division II level. His experience is JUCO football (albeit not long) and as an assistant in two leagues - NFLE and Arena Football - that do not exist. Yes, Arena Football came back as af1 or whatever, but it's not the same league.
You think you know FCS football and you probably do know more than most but your logic about our transfers and entering the SLC in year two are your opinion and are not based on facts. You can make an arguement either way about the direction the program is going. I guess we'll all know about Ray Woodard by year three or four. You got to give the man at least that long for a startup program.
FACT - No start-up in the last 5-10 years has entered a full-scholarship Division I FCS league in its first two years. Please look at the clocks for Southeastern Louisiana, Old Dominion, Georgia State, etc. Going back further, I am sure the same exists. So, I guess that is an accurate assessment of your program and fact-based. I'm just going off experience there. As it relates to transfers, you are right. Tough to tell. I'm thinking that there are plenty to be had because a) Lamar needs to be competitive to retain interest in the program, b) a lot of SETX boys wanted to return home or c) all Woodard knows is the JUCO level and it was easier to load up on players from the TX JCs. Either way, we'll know if Woodard was the right or wrong hire in the next few years. Will he outshine fellow upstart coaches? Or will he go the way of Dom Capers for you Houston Texans fans?
Sorry short on time so I'll make it quick. RW was an assistant at ULL. I believe they are FBS school.  What is wrong with doing something different than Southeastern Louisiana, Old Dominion, Georgia State and other startup programs. If Lamar struggles in the next 3-4 years you can say I told you so, right?
 17.
Nothing makes me an expert and never challenged anyone's independent thinking either.  oh well lets stop the pissing match and hope for the best.
I think you got me wrong as I've never challenged anyones except TexasTerror's independent thinking. He and I go back and forth on this forum and another. As for you, it appears you are a Lamar fan and you have a right to voice your opinion but so do I. I'm with you on hoping for the best.
 18. Man, I never stated I was an authority on FCS football. My brother played at McNeese but that is another story. I believe TT is talking about all the JC transfers. So hipster, what makes you an expert on the subject of college football; namely FCS?
 19.
I'll agree with hipster. Ray Woodard does not have lengthy head football coaching experience, let alone experience at the Div I level. He has NFLE and Arena League experience, but outside of playing at the Div I level - no experience here. Would've even given him some credit if he was a Div II head coach, since it's not far off from Div I. The hiring of Ray Woodard is one of the two biggest question marks I have on the Lamar program. For all the talk prior to the hiring, this was truly not the "sexy" pick in the least bit. It's not the splash of a Larry Coker or Bill Curry, like some of the other upstarts. Figured Lamar would want the splash hire... The other question mark I have is the recruiting. There's way too many transfers for an upstart program and no matter how you break it down, I just do not see how this will be beneficial for your program over the long run. May come with instant gratification, but could end up stunting the growth some. Wait, guess I have a third one. The entering the SLC in year two. All other FCS programs come into their league in year three. I do not think that was a smart move in the least bit, but probably goes in line with Lamar's risk/reward with the long list of transfers.
I guess you think Willie Fritz is a "sexy pick"? He lead Blinn JC and Central Missouri prior to taking over for the BearKats; one a juco and the other DII. He definitely didin't make a "splash" around here. You think you know FCS football and you probably do know more than most but your logic about our transfers and entering the SLC in year two are your opinion and are not based on facts. 20.
I find that amaZING in that he was the most qualified!  Maybe he will be a trend setter.  ??? ??? ???
Man, you are a little late to the party if you are just now finding out who the Head Coach is at Lamar! ??? ???
 21. Congratulations to Jacody Coleman for this honor. Isn't he a transfer LB from Iowa though?
 22. Coach Roc was out watching players at the John Lucas Southwest Invitational Camp. I believe it was the first day of the live period for recruiting players.
 23. That was a funny statement about Coach Roc by Jim Hicks. Doubt the comment will have Roc changing his hair style though.  :D
 24. Forgive Cody Laird if he's still trying to find the right words to describe the last year. A year ago, he was learning to make the transition to pitcher for the Nederland baseball team. Now, he's learning how to make the transition to college baseball as Laird verbally committed to play baseball at Lamar University, a place he's wanted to play since he was a child. [Hidden Content]
