1.
Mentioned the Rivals rank, yet did not gloat about it nor make it seem like my program legitimately had a top 10 ranking by Rivals for recruiting class, let alone annually...  :P Also, SHSU has added their share of transfers, but they are not building a program around them. Funny enough, most of the transfers that have come in have all four years of eligibility left after redshirting as a freshman at an FBS program. I'm optimistic that 50% of our roster is not JUCOs and FBS transfers, like that in Beaumont. We may even have a younger team than the Cardinals! That wouldn't surprise me...
So you aren't going to build your team around a RB or QB?  ::)
2.
Over 16,000 members, not just 6,000. ;) ;D As for coachacola, he deleted his account on his own, no one here forced him to leave. After someone who is a moderator deletes their account, they lose their mod status. He rejoined later as just a regular member. He hasn't asked for his mod status back. The owner of the site usually doesn't give mod status to someone who has deleted their own account and is a mod on another board.
He isn't a moderator over there.  CardAmbassador is the only moderator. Sorry about stating 6,000 as I can't read too well.  :D It's over 16,000 members on setxsports.com. My bad!
3. Yea, I post here and www.bigredinsider.com and I think coachacola was a moderator here until he started posting on the other site and the leadership here removed his moderator tag so he quit posting here. I wish the leadership here would give him back his moderator tag as he is very knowledgable about everything Lamar and did a good job. This site has over 6,000 members and www.bigredinsider.com has about 200. So IMO, there is no threat to the popularity of this site if a moderator post on the other Lamar fan site. I hope this post doesn't get me banned.  :)
4.
I guess we are looking at two different sources. I did post the entire opening paragraph, underlined the specific text, and provided a direct link to the whole article. I went off of what I read, so I don't know if I am "wrong" at all. Maybe McNeese voted for themselves, and if so I would not blame them. But be it 7-1 SFA or 8-0 SFA, the consensus is clear.
Have to admit, SFA couldn't vote for themselves so throw out that vote and it would have been unanimous for SFA as preseason SLC champions. Being a Lamar fan, there is no need for me to argue about preseason polls because both SFA and McNeese are better than the Cardinals. Heck, I'll be happy to win 5 or 6 games this year, with one or two versus SLC teams (not SFA or McNeese). At least there will be collegiate football in Beaumont this year. It's been a long time coming.  8)
5. Two things I remember was any talk about rivals was wrong and taking a lot of transfers was not good for the program. Plus, this young man's ranking is from 2008. SHSU has added a lot of offensive transfers in the past few months and this isn't the only RB. They got one from La Tech. Wonder what he would have posted if this was Lamar and a Cardinals fan posting the information about a young man or woman coming to Lamar?  ::)
6. Well, check this out. I couldn't help but laugh. SHSU Adds K-State Running Back, #31 in Nation According to this newspaper out of Oklahoma, SHSU is adding a kid that was the #31 best athlete in the nation in 2008 per Rivals. Seems like he would have four years of eligibility remaining... [Hidden Content] TIMOTHY FLANDERS, MIDWEST CITY, OKLA. Rated the 31st-best athlete in the nation and the No. 9 player in the state of Oklahoma by Rivals... Rushed for 5,143 yards and 65 touchdowns throughout his high school career, including 2,153 yards and 34 touchdowns during his senior season... Also recorded 231 receiving yards with four touchdowns throughout his career... Rushed for 1,604 yards and 20 scores as a junior. Simply put no player in Oklahoma has had a better senior season than Midwest City's latest superstar. Flanders has made his biggest impact as a running back but there is a lot of thought that his brightest future may be at safety. Flanders imposing frame and ferocious playing style lends itself well to the defensive side of the ball. Now that being said, Flanders' greatest asset is that he can play well and excel at both, so he is a player that will garner plenty of recruiting attention due to schools being able to recruit him and allow him to play himself into his position. 7. I just showed that you were wrong about SFA unanimously 1st in the coaches poll.  McNeese did get a vote. :D Then the second is a national poll from the site [Hidden Content]; ;D Good luck to the Jacks as well. Maybe one day a SLC team will win the national championship.  8)
8. Glad to see he is still considering Lamar.
9. I probably am a little bias as my brother played at McNeese and I attended Lamar. But, a family friend played for SFA back in the 70's so I keep up with them too. I'm not saying they aren't good because obviously they are. I just think McNeese will be hard to beat in Lake Charles. 10. Well, I'll wait for the season to play out because the preseason polls by the coaches and SID's are often wrong.  ;)
11. Sorry to hear that as it could take a long time to heal even if surgery is not required.
12.

Granted this by far our toughest game this year.
Not even close. LU plays at SFA. Thats Southland Conference Champion, two-rounds-deep SFA which has all everything 2009 SLC Player of the Year Jeremy Moses returning...   [Hidden Content]
They're both going to be tough for Lamar. McNeese is our first game in 21 years and they have an extremely talented team coming back. SFA is the SLC champions in 2009 but you've got to travel to Lake Charles too. IMO, that is the game to decide the 2010 SLC champions. Jeremy Moses versus the Cowboy defense. Plus, if McNeese's transfer QB from Tulsa plays well they will be even tougher to beat. 13. Kevin Smith might be out for a significant amount of time because of a shoulder injury. This could be a big blow for the Cards. [Hidden Content]
14. I'd love to eat my words but I see McNeese beating Lamar by 2 TD's.  Give LU a couple of years then my prediction will definitely be different.
15. One of the lures college basketball coaches sometimes use on recruits from out-of-state is to promise they will schedule a game as near to their home as possible. That’s how defending NCAA champion Villanova wound up opening the 1985-86 season at Lamar, with Rollie Massimino following through on a promise to West Orange-Stark’s Connally Brown. LU’s Steve Roccaforte is using the same tactic. He’s working on a game at the University of Florida for Devon Lamb and Brandon Davis, a game at DePaul for Tremell Adams and Stan Brown and a game at USC or UCLA for Donnally Minor and Orlando Brazier. Roccaforte also said Lamar will be playing at Kentucky in the near future, primarily because his former boss, John Calipari, is offering a $90,000 guarantee. [Hidden Content]
16. Thought I knew just about everything there was to know about Bum Phillips’ sports background until I talked to him recently for a piece for Lamar University’s website counting down to the Cardinals’ Sept. 4 football opener at McNeese State. Bum, as I discovered, was not only a two-year captain and football starter for Lamar Junior College in the 1940s, he was also a captain and starter on the basketball team. He’s proud of the fact he helped the 1947-48 Cardinals win the Texas state Junior College Championship. From his description, it sounds like he was mostly what used to be referred to as a “hatchet man.” “I wasn’t much of a shooter, but I could guard,” he told me with a chuckle. “I could bump people around. I was just real aggressive. I could take pivot men out of their game.” . . . That Lamar Countdown to Kickoff series, by the way, can be read by going to www.lamar.edu and clicking on athletics. It started with the McNeese game 75 days away and takes a daily look at somebody with either direct or indirect ties to Cardinal football reflecting on their memories. Among those who have been featured are former PN-G football coach Matt Burnett, former LU trainer Paul Zeek, former LU football assistant John Payton, current LU baseball coach Jim Gilligan, Kelly football coach Mike Long, former Cardinal basketball star Clarence Kea, recently retired Lamar State College-Port Arthur athletic director Bill Worsham and even a certain sports editor from Port Arthur. The piece on Bum Phillips is tentatively scheduled to run around Aug. 15 to coincide with the release of his autobiography. [Hidden Content]
17. Maybe they will be better next year. Or at least what you are looking for in a band uniform. I'm interested to know how many people will be in the band this year.
18. Kwabena Asante could have let his college football playing days end when Hofstra University in New York decided after last season to disband its football program. But with one season of playing eligibility left, Asante wanted one more go-around. So, he packed his bags for Lamar University, where the 6-foot-1, 210-pound running back will be the only senior on a squad of more than 80 players. "I learned at Hofstra for four years how to be responsible and accountable," Asante said. "That's what I bring over here, some veteran leadership. I can show them how it's done: Don't miss anything. Be on time. Just be accountable and show up." [Hidden Content]
19. BEAUMONT -- The Lamar University football team opened camp Thursday night at the Coach Vernon Glass Field of Champions practice facility in preparation for the 2010 season. [Hidden Content]
20. For Coach Roc's sake I hope we play better on the road this year and that isn't a easy road non-conference schedule.
21. I remember Coach Tidwell mentioning he was looking overseas for a post player. Anyone got information as to if he was able to land another post player?
22. Agree, with all the return games on the schedule there isn't a great non-conference home schedule. But, hey if this was a baseball schedule then baseball25 would love it.
23. Look's to be a balanced schedule to me. Very difficult games with some we probably should win and those we will definitely win.
