If my understanding is correct, the Giants had to beat the Cowboys in the last game just to get into the playoffs and then they won the Superbowl?
I would definitely NOT bet against it...The dynamic would be completely different.  You know that.
Sorry but have to disagree.  While coaching is valuable, the material still has to be adequate.  Ozen does not have, regardless of who coaches, the material to be undefeated in district this year and the favorite to win regionals.  You are basically contending that if Red Auerbach had continued to coach, that Phil Jackson would not have done what he did.
 5.
SteveNash, I'd be willing to be my change, your money, and everyone's money on this board that HJ wouldn't play with in 30 of Yates this year. They have 5 Shawn Prudhomme, 3 DC Stallworths, and 4 Kristen Smiths. Yates is young as well. Next it is a FACT they will WALK thru 3A ball. Silsbee, HJ, Sealy, and Waco La Vega better make  the best of this season. Next years Yates will resemble their team from the back to back years. I'm not riding their jocks, but HJ plays too slow and Silsbee is way too small. Manvel is ranked 2nd and they won't play with in 18 of them. I'm not saying no one should be scared of them, but when your high school team is full of AAU players what do you expect. Their bench would win compete for state in 3A this year.
The Cavaliers beat the Heat a couple of nights ago.l  And stop with the betting stuff.  You havent come through on any betting offers yet.  Talk is cheap.  Once you play Sleepy for $, I will happily respond to an offer that you make.
 6. It means NOTHING.  You all have screamed repeatedly how the tougher Silsbee schedule did such great things.  Tell me now that it mattered that much.
 7.
oh my goodness. You must really be isolated in SE Tx to think HJ or silsbee could hang with Yates. I appreciate your heart, but pleeeze use your brain. Yes, they are kids and if they played 50 times SE Tx could come away with 2 or 3 wins, but you gotta kidding otherwise. HJ struggled with Kingwood Park AT HOME. and Kpark would lose to Yates by 25. Yates has the athletic bodies, not one, several, to cover HJ's stud who is normally a matchup nightmare. Plus isn't he a Senior?
Is leading the entire game considered a struggle?  Is Yates beating Wheatley only in the last 5 minutes of the game and then Wheatley losing to Central considered domination?
 8. Dickie- Do you believe that if this Ozen team had been coached by Boutte that they would be undefeated in district and a favorite to win the region?
 9.
Agree Nash.  The SMRJ is the most under practiced, lowest percentage shot in todays game.  If you ask most coaches, this is the shot they want to give to the offense if they have to give one at all.
Having Prudhomme and Bosha ( both about 6'3" or 6'4") roaming that area is going to take away some SMRJs and alter some others.
 10.
You could actually make the argument on a program rebuilding standpoint, that Nederland's success(or any school that has done the same) over the past few years is bigger than a state tournament apperance by a school that is loaded for one year.  IMO it could be considered a tougher acccomplishment.  I really admire what Coach English has done against the odds he has faced and obstacles he has had to overcome.
strongly agree
 11.
Wow SteveNash! I would put my money on Smith all day! He is a better player than Prudhomme. Who would you pick to start your team with. I think Smith takes those shots because he didn't trust his teammates. I think that has changed.
It's very easy to make that statement.  But it would be better to give some reasons why.  If you havent seen both of them play 3 or 4 times each this year, I dont see how you are qualified to say it.  While I havent seen the numbers, I am betting that Prudhommes overall stats compare extremely favorably with Smiths.  And I am sorry, but if you are unable to trust your team mates, that is counter productive as opposed to productive and is an ingredient to being a good player.
 12. That was not proven when Central played HJ by any stretch of the imagination.  Also making a few one on one moves might make you look good but making too many makes you look pretty dumb and is costly to the team.
If they don't miss that kid, the Cavs don't miss Lebron..... ::) ::).....Central does not have a kid BETTER than him, including Kristian Smith...They may have one or two as good as, but not better...
I heartily agree.

No one saw Silsbee losing to Sealy last year. Ricky Seals-Jones is a monster. If they match up with Silsbee again this year, I don't see the Tigers beating them. It's all about match ups folks. HJ matches up well with all those teams because they have speed and size.
I think Silsbee will beat Sealy if they play again this year
I agree.  In fact, when they are shooting a reasonable percentage from three point range, I believe they are a better team than last year.
I would think that Silsbee would be MORE dangerous if they shot LESS three's...They have a crew of kids with some sweet mid range jumpers, and some heat seeking rack finders!! ;D...(translation: guys that can get to the cup!)
Dove- I am a little confused by this.  In this thread where a whopping margin is involved, your answer is simply for the loser to get better.  But when HJ beat Orangefield the other night by a margin no where near this, your comment was " running up the score again".  Do I sense a degree of inconsistency here?
 23. Dove, how would you compare Neds chances vs the Longhorns?

I have none....I was simply answering your question...Is it that you thought the Nederland streak was special? Sorry to burst your bubble, but its been done before...29 district wins is commendable...but you people were acting like it was earth shattering, and it was not...its over now, so hopefully your team can refocus, and take care of business in the coming weeks....insecure? Are you kidding me?....  ::)
Actually, it's never been done in Nederland DV, so we are soaking it up. You can't stand for Nederland to be doing so well, it's comical! There is no bubble to burst, bc we are happy campers in Mid County. We are 25-6 in a rebuilding year!  :o
They haven't done anything NB.... ::).. Yes they are playing well and will likely win district 20-4A for a second straight year...I am glad Coach E has them going in the right direction...That is a great accomplishment for Nederland...MY point was it was done like that to the 10th power, and no issue was made from it as it has this season...It was done at Ozen so regularly, that it was the EXPECTATION. Lincoln too...I don't think that the PORT ARTHUR News EVER mentioned Lincoln's YEARS OF CONSECUTIVE DISTRICT WINS, as much as they have Nederland's short lived run....I guess I DO have issue with THAT, but its not personal....I wish Nederland luck this season, going forward....I think they have a great coach... he is a good guy, and I consider him to be a personal friend....and has been for the last 12 years...relax... 8)
It's all about perspective DV. Didn't say we've accomplished anything yet did I? I said we are enjoying our current success bc we haven't had any for 50+ years until recently. May not be success in your book, but it's success for a program that lived in the dweller for so many years. I think most teams who are in a rebuilding year (even HJ, Silsbee, Kountze) would be ok sitting at 25-6 at this time of the season.
If the Raptors or the Bobcats or the Hornets get to the playoffs, that will have been a bigger accomplishment than the Heat or the Bulls winning the title from the perspective of a lot of people.
 25. Dickie- I want to give you an alternate point of view.  In spite of your basketball pedigree, you only know basketball from the top down as opposed to the bottom up.  By that I am talking about where you played, where you were coached and people you were associated with.  It is well established about Mr. Bouttes success but, Kountze, Lincoln and Ozen?  You have got to agree that if you walk into those places you have a head start already.  I know Ozen was a new school but the gene pool was very predisposed to basketball and it was a magnet school. Also, it is often as easier job to take a new school up from Zero than an established school from -50.  You and Mr. Boutte have no record of turning a very failed program or basketball culture on its ear.  So I would suggest to you that if you take the job at Bridge City next year and within a few years have a 29 game district winning streak, I will consider that a MAMMOTH accomplishment.  Mr. Boutte has NEVER entered a situation where there was ZERO talent, ZERO basketball culture, Zero basketball interest and turned it around by developing it hiimself with no administrative support and with no assistants who were dedicated to basketball.  No disrespect to Mr. Boutte but it is simply an experience he has never had and that is not intended to say he is any less for having been in good situations the bulk of his career.  You and I have had this discussion in private and you know that I was very close to a situation similar to what I am talking about.  So, in this case, I can personally testify as to what a big task it is.  Therefore, I think, if you take ALL conditions into consideration, that 29 game streak is a very huge deal.
