Stevnash I will go out on a limb and tell you for a fact Yates would beat HJ by 30. The speed they have in their starting 5 gets faster when the bench clears. Coach Wise is like the dude from the original Karate Kid. "No Mercy"!
If it's a fact, why do you describe it as going out on a limb? I have to take your statements with a grain of salt based upon past golf conversations/predictions.
Great gmae plan by Central. This game could have been blown open big time, be we missed a LOT of free throws. We cllosed out on 3 point shooters, we fought under screens, and we battled tooth and nail with the big Sophomore Nederland post man. Our defensive game plan worked to perfection. K. Smith was a man tonight. He killed the mid range jumper earlier in the game. The one on one game went great. NO Nederland defender could check him. Kid finished with almost 30 points. Shout out to the Freshman Wildridge as he showed big late in the game. CENTRAL Finished 2-1 in the season series. Good luck on the rest of the season, Big Ned. BTW, the coach called out a heck of a game plan, so it's safe to say that English got out-coached tonight? (im just stirring the pot. ;) )
Soulja- Congrats on the victory. I didnt think it would happen. Looks like you employed the dunk-o-meter tonight. I also think you should know we had two devices working tonight. The dunk-o-meter recorded two and the alley-oop-o-meter recorded another two. Just think, there are two or three people on here who could be half way to a quick $250 if they had accepted my proposition.

SETX will beat a Yates team next year! They play almost out of control at times. They have very below average shooters. Most of their points come off the press. I think the Tigers and Hawks have points returning who can beat their press and not panic under pressure. They normally start 6'2, 6'2, 5'11 6'6 and 6'5.
Wow, how did I miss these few comments. But never too late to respond ;) Yates have average shooters, I agree. The only way HJ can score off Yates is to run when Yates score. HJ cannot play a half court game with Yates. Sounds odd to say that, doesn't it? I'l let you guys and other experts figure it out. Silsbee, well thats a whole different story. Yates size and rebounding matched with their quickness will match well against Silsbee.
So you are saying that Silsbee would do considerably better against Yates than Hj would? Is that sort of like WOS losing to Silsbee at Silsbee by 7 and then HJ beating WOS at WOS by 30+? Yes, I can certainly see how that comparison works out.

Statistics are nice and all but, don't always tell the whole story.
When you are trying to find the most equitable situation for all, statistics is all you have. Everything else becomes cumbersome and creates more problems than it solves. I could bore you to tears with bell-curves that support this reasoning, but it just isn't worth it.
Will statistics accurately quanitify the level of competition created in a metropolitan area vs a rural area and hence the eventual quality of the players? I would be willing to bet that if you take the top1% of all basketball players in Houston and compare them to the top 1% of players in the Nacogdoches community, there is a substantial difference in the calibre of play.

The only word you need to change in your statement is to use "hope" rather than "think" in order to make it totally accurate.
I said it before...Central's team and coaches will feel the pressure in a close game in the 4th, will not make the adjustments, will not make the plays, will not make free throws, Nederland will play disciplined, smart ball.....and will win by 10
But so many are saying that Central is so much more talented that the talent will trump disciplined, smart ball. Right Dove? ( I just can't figure out why that same talent did not prevail in the first game) -

If I am the Spurs and can have only one of the two players, I will take Tim Duncan over DeJuan Blair every time.

Yep- and I believe a third time will keep them both "on their toes" more than anyone else available will regardless of who wins and who is seeded where. If I am a Silsbee or HJ player and I am in that big game against LaVega, I am thinking "this cant be much tougher than what I have been through with my district opponent 3 times" and ought to make me a little more confident. As much as I have heard about the "Silsbee benefits/ and is better for having played a tougher schedule", it would seem that playing HJ again would merely enhance that claim. -
Nederland @ Central Feb 3: Predictions

If you mean what you say, then why are you picking Ozen and Central in the upcoming Nederland games? Are you saying the " I am tired of this beating" factor will be the larger determinant of who wins in these two games? -
Where will Silsbee and HJ play their playoff
stevenash replied to jam14's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Well, I will certainly look for an opportunity to reciprocate. The main obstacle for either team is an undefeated and obviously very good Waco LaVega who, I belive is #1 in the state. Should either team wind up playing LaVega in Huntsville, I have to believe that having played each other will be the best preparation. Does that mean I am right? Heck no. It's just my opinion which I am obviously never hesitant to offer. ;D -

From a seeding standpoint, I too, see little value. On the other side, I still believe that each provides the other with the best available preparation for the playoffs. -

They keep winning with [s]no [/s] little talent ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I guess that depends on how one interprets talent. From my perspective, there are a couple of different ways (probably more) to arrive at your conclusion. In one corner are those whose evaluation is based on speed, athleticism, and shake n bake capabilities while in the other corner are those who believe that skill and understanding/achieving the game objective are major components of "talent".
Sweet midranged jumpers is talent. It wouldn't hurt if you can do a shake and bake, a pretty spin move and push the dunk-o-meter to 5 a game.
I assume you mean a high percentage of made sweet mid range jumpers is talent. Are the sweet midrange jumpers a result of talent or constant practice?
