:D I', sure HJ put in their bench players for valuable playing time. I expect them to play just as hard as JY's bench players ;)
Bench minutes exceeded starter minutes and one starter did not play at all.
What starter did not play? Injury?
Old injury that is almost totally healed- not wanting to risk aggravation

I expect them to play just as hard as JY's bench players ;)
yup, but i bet HJ's bench was playing really hard in a half-court defense and offense, and not running a press with a 2nd string that would start for most other houston schools...
Dude, it really don't matter how you try and sugar coat it, a 75 point win or a 50 point win. JY's style is to press the whole game. Thats their system. Maybe HJ's system is press and play half court. Go JY ! [s]Go HJ! [/s]  OOOPS! Got too carried away.
Dove- there you go again.  It's ok for Yates to have large margins of victory and yet you post that HJ "ran up the score" on Orangefield.  Which is it?  Or is it possibly "writers choice"?

 5.
I had the opportunity to see and talk with my old coach (Walter Yates) and his old buddy former NBA'er Luke Jackson. They brought up some things that opened my thought s up on the playoff system. Three to four schools get picked in the 3-a, 4-a, or 5a schools for playoffs. Let me break this down a little deeper. You can be a  3rd or 4th place team and make the playoffs! Is that really a true accomplishment? Maybe in today's standards it is looked at in a favorable way. But there use to be days when you would have 3-5 team ties and there was a playoff to see who really deserved it. Thanks to true ol'schoolers for keeping it real. But times have changed and I can accept it but you just can't fool everybody, if you know what I mean ;)
Dove- this "everybody is a winner" and "nobod should ever feel left out" are two lefty propositions that have no place in basketball (and a lot of other places too)  At the rate we are going, it wont be long until everyone is in the playoffs because it's the "fair" thing to do.

Was there shooting that bad? 2 point 1st quarter is bad! Zero for Orangefield in the 3rd even worst.
Unofficially, Silsbee missed their first 6 shots in the 1st quarter - some at point blank range.  They were very tight for some reason; don't know what that was about.  In fact, Silsbee never really looked comfortable at any stage of the game. [/quote If that has to  happen it's good that it did not happen against a playoff calibre team.

Nederland lost, and we expect some flack. That's OK, it makes the board fun. But it really is unnecessary to call out specific boys by name or number and say things like "you don't even know when they're on the floor, or "they have JV talent at best".  You said Weisbrod and English are good players, simply leave it at that. If you notice, you are the only one who in almost every post in some way shows your dislike for Nederland. All in fun, I don't think so. Am I oversensitive, not hardly.  Not sure where the deep seeded dislike stems from, but keep in mind this board exists because of the very boys and teams we talk about. When you got back on this board you said you wanted to be a positive contributor.......keep working at it, IMO you're not there yet.
Good advice.  I believe you should add in that is equally improper to demean a community or any individual sports program as well.

 10.
Ugly win.  Jags just went through the motions. There were a lot of smiling and hapiness due to this being the last home game for the seniors. BTW, Dunk count 3-0 Central Are of the dunkks were directly over the head of a Raider player that tried to block it.  Smh.  Can you say posterized?
Big deal- Somebody told me its still only two points.  If they had any sense, they would have pulled up for SMRJ.

 12.
You guess the shots did not fall? Listen, I have said this from the jump...Nederland is an average team that peaked about two weeks ago...Ozen and Central are more talented teams that willed their way to wins at home...Right now Nederland better try to win Tuesday night, and go into the playoffs with SOME steam..Right now reality is setting in that maybe they are just not as good as people thought they were....Good luck the rest of the way.....
Dickie- I have one question.  Why are things " in reality" now but not 2 ,3,or 4 weeks ago?  If Nederland wins the district, will they then be able to say that reality is setting in?  If teams are truly more talented, why would they have to "will their way" to victory on their home court?
 13. This is soooo very painful for me- I owe Dickie V $20 on this game [img][Hidden Content]]

 20.
Go look up results from some games in 20-4A where a team heavily favored had to squeak out a win.. I bet I can tell you the reason for that one, Looking past the opponent! I never said I didnt agree with anyone out there about HJ and Silsbee finishing 1,2 in 20-4A IF they were there.. All I wanted to make known is that the success from 3A wouldnt make them automatic winners.. Teams learn how to play of press from game-time reps against it, and I know teams in this district would find the ways around it, and make HJ or Silsbee beat you in the Half-court.. The biggest reason for the success for HJ and Silsbee is the press.. They dont have to have to have great players, but the right ones to run the system.. Can u agree on that?
I believe HJ wins the game played on nov 21 with or without a press.  And there are a number of teams who have faced those same presses many times and still didnt handle it well.  I repeat that the adjustment theory is a two way street.
 21. Competitive week in and week out may not be accurate this year.  Other than Central and Nederland, I dont believe that district is particularly difficult this season.  Couple of leading teams have struggled with LCM-  HJ played them four times and the average margin is substantial.  THis is just a rare season where a couple of smaller schools have a leg up on some of the larger ones.  Is that permanent?  I wouldn't think so,  But it is pretty undeniably obvious this year to most.  DISCLAIMER:  I don't think that HJ or Silsbee are World Beaters and can win wherever they go-  They just happen to be the best in the Golden Triangle THIS year.
NOBODY said HJ was a world beater.  But there are plenty who are unwilling to take the attempted discrediting of a good team without making their opinion(s) known.
 25.

To me, its pretty simple.  Normally it isnt the case but this year it just happens that the top two teams in the area are from the same 3-a district.  If someone would have asked me before the year started if that was a likely outcome, I would have said probably not.  Even though it is an unlikely rarity, it is what it is and discussions wont change it.  Furthermore, the two teams dont win just because they press- they win because they are better than the other team(s) they played against.  All good coaches have their teams prepared for a press, so it was no surprise when it happened.  Face it, the press is effective and it takes intelligence, athleticism, and speed to be effective.  The two teams have those qualities in varying degrees.
Never said the press wasnt effective.. Just trying to help you understand some of these results.. You can game-plan as much as you want, but it will beat you if your team doesnt get reps and see it enough.. Which is my point to the 20-4A.. If those teams saw it on a regular basis, you would see that HJ and Silsbee arent leaps and bounds ahead these teams.. Just dont want people saying they would come into the district thinking its going to be just another cake-walk to the play-offs
No doubt that if they saw it on a regular basis, they would adjust.  But, then again, so would Silsbee and HJ against whatever they would see in that district on a regular basis.  Let go of it.  HJ beat Nederland this year and you cant make that go away like you tried once already when you  cried "Oh yeah?  Let em play again and see what happens".  I have already stated this was an abnormal year in the local basketball ranks but you cant rewrite history and the results speak unchangeable volumes.
:D Thats a cute way to put it Nash.. I know HJ beat Nederland, more power to them, just dont like people throwing the Elite tag on those teams and think they are easily winners wherever they go.. Sorry, but that is the perception given off by the post I have read, and didnt want to just sit around anymore
Not cute- just plain factual.  It is no secret that you have a dislike for HJ and I have no problem with that.  Please show me where someone said they are ELITE.  Where did someone say they are easily winners wherever they go?  Dont you think it is a good idea to be able to substantiate an allegation when making one?  You are struggling with the FACT that they are a very good team this year ( better than you expected).  The good news is you can spout all the buzzwords and lingo you wish from a self perceived lofty perspective but you still can't change what has already taken place.
